We are all about the HOMEMADE: from cakes, chocolate brownies & scones to soups, stews and even the coleslaw! BREAKFAST: all the usual suspects from a full plate to rolls or just some scrambled eggs with spinach & cherry tomatoes. BREAD: thick cut sandwic
If Iâm giving myself just three words to describe Soupâs On, then these are what Iâm going for: authentic, unpretentious, delicious.Authentic. These guys donât need a social media manager to carefully curate their Instagram page and TripAdvisor reviews. Moreover, these guys donât want a social media manager. They are the real deal, focused on substance over style. One Instagram post a day sets the menu â a special and a range of sweet treats which change daily. Check before you visit, you may wish to reserve a slice of cake! All made fresh in the café each morning.Unpretentious. See above. Lots of places in the Southside are trying so hard to be something â Soupâs On just âisâ. There may be no avocado on the premises, but there are quirky tables, bookshelves and plants everywhere. The music may be the one thing in this place which is curated â a changing playlist sets the mood perfectly. The community is diverse. Note the word community as opposed to clientele. Saturday mornings can be reminiscent of scenes from Cheers. Delicious. Brunch specials at the weekend hit the spot: veggie haggis; masala toast; pulled pork and chorizo hash. Also, breakfast rolls. Have I mentioned the bacon yet? Insane. Try it on a panini, if you can bring yourself to let go of your dignity for as long as it takes to say âIâll have the Club Tropicana pleaseâ. Also, Cake Lady â scones, brownies, sponges and squares. All served on beautiful vintage crockery which only adds to the character of the place. Breakfast, brunch, coffee and a cake, or lunch â the small but perfectly formed menu is ideal for every visit.Well isnât this just an almost overwhelmingly lovely collection of words. Youâre right, we do just try to âbeâ rather than aspire to any particular fashion. A small cafe like ours is a lifestyle, not a job as such.. without our community, as you so accurately phrased it, weâd be nothing.. just another cafe. But weâre not just another cafe, weâre that place you regard so highly as to place this review.. and it makes our tummies feel all funny. Of course, I canât ignore your friendly dig in the direction of our âClub Tropicanaâ toasted panini. You see.. it was back in 1989, shortly after we began our culinary quest, that George Michael popped in. I used every fibre of my being to not become star struck but I probably failed. He was such a gent about my giddiness though and quietly ordered the chicken club panini. After heâd finished his meal I composed myself and headed over to his table.. âWas that all ok for you?â I politely asked. âIt was fantastic, though I think you could definitely perk it up with some mango chutney & a little curry powder..â was his reply. âOoh, sounds a bit tropical!â I blurted out nervously. We looked each other in the eyes and at that moment we both knew what needed to happen..

Drawn to visit by this cafeâs name Charles McCune Smith...after the first African American to get a medical degree just a stoneâs throw from the cafe at the Old Glasgow University.Sensible prices for an excellent menu.....all freshly cooked and baked. Staff and owners attentive and friendly. Nice atmosphere located in the old part of Glasgow a ten minute walk from George Square. We enjoyed our visit and looking forward to returning to try out more of their excellent food.

My friend and I had afternoon tea here yesterday, it was all lovely the white chocolate tart was particularly delicious! I really like how they change their menu seasonally as we got to enjoy the Autumn menu. The gin selection is brillant and the staff are really helpful and knowlegable on what mixers go best with what gins. Everyone who served us was really friendly and the atmosphere overall was lovely, welcoming and relaxing. The Gin Spa is right next door and it makes for the perfect pamper day out! They even had a seperate vegetarian afternoon menu which was lovely, all too often us veggies are left as an after thought and I've often had an afternoon tea where the vegetarian sandwiches have been squished next to the meat and have had to be sent back but here they were very considerate with the seperate menu and seperate plate for the food.

We came to the Wild Olive Tree for a light brunch and were not disappointed! The cafe is inside the cathedral, which isnât obvious from the street but is stated very clearly on the website. My mom and I both got a pot of regular tea and a scone with cream; she got the vanilla and sultana scone while I stuck with plain. The scones were very sizable and very good! The space is bright and airy. There are fairy strung all about and artwork displayed for sale about the room. One thing to note: they donât mention it but you seem to need to go pay at the front despite ordering from your table. Another thing worth mentioning is their âpay it forwardâ type program - you can pay whatever amount you want and it will be used to provide soup to local homeless population (which is sadly quite large). Overall, great little cafe with a great cause.

We popped in to Bramble mid week after trying to get a table the week before, without any success. This small cafe is always busy and there is always a queue, sometimes even outside. Our wait was about 30 minutes. The café is nicely decorated and has a cozy feeling to it (except when the door gets left open and you are sitting on the high stools). We were seated at the high stools at the window. The staff are very pleasant but it is clear that loitering after your main meal is not encouraged due to the size of the cafe. There is a nice mix of different types of food on offer from home baking to light bites and right through to something more substantial. The food is all freshly made and the ingredients are clearly good quality. We had 1 Chilli Eggs with Chorizo for a small additional charge which were just nicely spiced and served with tasty toasted bread, and 2 of us had the Chicken with Waffles - as I am allergic to garlic, the staff happily adapted the garlic dressing to mayo and there was no garlic at all in my meal. The pancakes were thin, light and "very moreish" and were topped with chicken lightly covered in buttermilk batter, home made tomato chutney and served with small drops of maple syrup around the plate edge. Accompanied by a jug of water, a Diet Coke and a Diet Irn Bru, the bill came to £30.70. All in all, a very pleasant experience. We would recommend a visit (the Eggs Benedict with Stornoway Black Pudding looked fabulous - I'm saving that for our next visit) and will be back.

Laid back dining in cosy and charming surroundings. Everything cooked fresh on the premise, using local and organic produce.
party of 5 dropped in for lunch. Had to wait which was expected for a table in this very popular lunch/brunch/breakfast spot. Food was lovely, only issue was one of the diners was vegetarian and there wasn't much in the way of a salad on offer...dont know if we could have asked for something to be made or not? Wouldn't stop us returning especially for the fluffy French Toast and Lemon Curd...with so many choices in the Southside this should be towards the top of your list

Today we visited this little café for lunch and we were not disappointed, we were the only couple in then gradually it filled up! I opted for the Soup of the Day and Ciabatta with Chicken Mayo, my wife had baked potato with Tuna and Red Onion. Both came well presented and warm. For dessert we both opted for the Tablet Cheesecake which was to die for! The bill came to £24, for two mains, two desserts and two pots of tea, which was not bad taking in to account the quality and service!

Brilliant place for a breakfast, brunch or lunch thought put into the menu with food thatâs a little different from the norm. Fantastic staff who are very helpful and attentive, itâs only a small place so be prepared for a possible wait for a table but I can assure itâs well worth it.Thanks so much for your kind words! Glad you enjoyed it and appreciated the menu Chris

We popped in her for a spot of lunch. We had previously eaten breakfast here and were very impressed. Lunch lived up to our expectations. The food was delicious and lovingly prepared. This is a cracking wee place. The portions are very generous too. Well worth a visit.
