Things to do in Downpatrick
Was in Downpatrick shopping and dropped in for a snack... the cafe is a wee bit "unique" but have to say that the despite the exterior and also interior it was a rtue gem with the best egg and onion sandwiches that my wife and I have ever had. Prices are great... two ate well for a tenner.
We arrived for a cup of coffee after walking the trails on the Castle Ward Estate. The Tea Room is in the Stable Yard and has many original features with open beams, stone walls and old furniture including sofas and armchairs. The coffee was an excellent top quality latte. There was a good assortment of unusual and delicious-looking cakes and traybakes, but we were on a diet. Must come back to sample them another time. The sofa was comfortable and the heating was good. A CD of assorted chamber music and easy listening provided a good relaxing background. They also do a small range of cooked food and freshly prepared sandwiches for lunches, and cream teas in the afternoon.
Visited during afternoon, coffee was excellent if slightly more expensive than normal. Good choice of calorie loaded cakes. Diners having meals looked generous helpings. Ample parking and automatic door, good for mobility access. Farm produce shop available. Possibly would call again if in the area.

Spoilt for choice with delicious cakes and traybakes. Friendly caring staff particularly the lovely girl on the till and Peter who regularly checks that everything is good. Recommend Rocky roads and caramel squares also Tate Apple cinnamon and raisin pie. Only One disappointing was a coissant offered up by the manager which was hard and took me quite by surprise.Hi Karen SThank you for your review. Fodder is a Farm Shop and small cafe selling our grass-fed, substainably farmed Dexter Beefas well as other food items and our own firewood amongst the trees at Finnebrogue
Tucked away on the Finnebrogue estate en route to Killyleagh, this place is surprisingly good. Ordered a Dexter burger and hotdog which were delicious. Both woofed down in the cool, calm and cavernous wigwam. So impressed we bought a BBQ box from the farm shop. Friendly staff and good value.

Oakley Fayre has been a Family run business for over 35 years, we pride ourselves on great local fresh food, great coffee and delicious sweet treats, we are in both the taste of Ulster guide and also in the Mckenna food guide!!
I have been having my breakfast in the Oakley Fayre for years. Quality food at a fair price. Lovely staff and attentive owner. Go!
First time in the new premises. Very impressed with the decor. I had the homemade mushroom soup which was tasty and substantial. It was served with lovely wheaten bread. My friend had the onion bread filled with cheese, bacon and lettuce. She loved it. Service was friendly, speedy and efficient. Will definitely be back.

My family and I eat here regularly (along with half the county!) as their range of fresh, delicious New York deli-style healthy meals have no real competition when it comes to taste, presentation, healthiness and sheer enjoyability in the Downpatrick area. That said, if its a fry, burger or goujons you prefer this place is not for you. The atmosphere is always buzzing and the staff are a real asset - charming, helpful and attentive despite the warm busyness that is the hallmark of successful eateries everywhere. The steep stairs from the street might be a little off-putting for the less mobile but the rewards are worth the climb. Personal favourites include the Buy-one-get-one-Brie and the Prawn Club. The home-made Banoffee Pie is deadly too. The extensive menu makes ditherers of us every visit. Never disappoints.
