The restaurant was not crowded. Our party of 4 waited over an hour for our orders to be served. We were told it was all cooked to order, but this was beyond any reasonable waiting time. The food was plentiful and good.

Friendly and fairly lively. They have a bakery counter with some amazing treats. I definitely would have taken one if the individual espresso cheesecakes if we werenât embarking on a 6 hour drive in August. Our waitress was pleasant. My sausage, egg and cheese biscuit slider was good but not amazing. My daughter said the same about her breakfast burrito. But the coffees were excellent and enormous and the bill was reasonable. All in all a good choice.

We had passed by this charming little spot so many times, always closed on our Sunday afternoon visits to Deland in northeast Central Florida. This time, a midday during the week, Dick and Janeâs was open! We changed our lunch plans and stopped inside. This charming place reminded us of so many small town shops and spots weâd grown up with in the Midwest, so we settled right in. In the end the food was delicious, the place relaxing, and the experience one we look forward to repeating. They are closed during the weekend. Their clientele is primarily the government and work-a-day crowd, so make sure you plan ahead. This is a charming and typical little town with lots of little shops and the like, so day visitors or tourists will find something to enjoy. But itâs also a county seat type of town, so weekdays, while downtown didnât feel overly busy, has a different vibe. Dick and Janeâs is in an older building, the kind you likely walked into often as a kid with a grandparent to shop for clothes, or an old bank kinda building, with tin plate ceilings and lots of character. Theyâve kept the charm of those days, but added seating in a range of spots around the space, including where we sat at a bar by the kitchen. The menu had plenty for most any taste, simple, yet not fare including sandwiches and soups. Every plate that went by looked loaded with something tasty. We enjoyed sandwiches - mine with potato salad, my companionâs the couscous. Both were delicious! Among the best weâve had in a restaurant. We will most certainly make a return visit, knowing weâll have to plan in advance. But as soon as we can, we are going back! If youâre looking for a lovely little town to explore and someplace great to eat without question plan a day in Deland, Florida and discover something a little bit special.
