The Purple Fiddle is part bar, part restaurant, part live music venue. We stopped for an afternoon beer with some live music. Thereâs a cover charge some nights. They are also part of the Mountain Music movement, if youâre interested in that. The Purple Fiddle is kind of a must stop when in the Thomas-Davis area, which youâll probably be visiting because of its natural scenery.

Breakfast Nook is located at entrance to Land of Canaan Resort. We know that Breakfast Nook is a very popular Breakfast diner for both Travelers and for Locals.Breakfast Nook is perhaps a two hundred-yard hike from our resort, and a 7:30 arrival finds few guests. All menu items are prepared from Scratch, and we like this.Service: ExcellentAmbience: Diner and a window tableDining: Today Blue Berry Pancakes with Bacon.

We have eaten here several times before and had no trouble but were disappointed recently when we stopped for breakfast. Although our waitress was very friendly and trying very hard the people in the kitchen were quite the opposite. The young man seemed to be bothered by anyone being there and didn't seem interested in what he was doing. The food was not that great this time: We asked for eggs over medium and they were crispy brown. My side of grits were so dry and stiff even adding butter didn't seem to help much. My husband's hash browns were so greasy he couldn't even eat them and when we brought it to the waitresses' attention, she said that's how the cook makes them but she would let her know. Needless to say, we didn't finish our breakfast. The coffee was good though.
