Discover Restaurants offering the best Cafe food in Columbia, Pennsylvania, United States. Columbia, formerly Wright's Ferry, is a borough (town) in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, 28 miles (45 km) southeast of Harrisburg on the east (left) bank of the Susquehanna River, across from Wrightsville and York County and just south of U.S. Route 30. The settlement was founded in 1726 by Colonial English Quakers from Chester County led by entrepreneur and evangelist John Wright. Establishment of the eponymous Wright's Ferry, the first commercial Susquehanna crossing in the region, inflamed territorial conflict with neighboring Maryland but brought growth and prosperity to the small town, which was just a few votes shy of becoming the new United States' capital. Though besieged for a short while by Civil War destruction, Columbia remained a lively center of transport and industry throughout the 19th century, once serving as a terminus of the Pennsylvania Canal. Later, however, the Great Depression and 20th-century changes in economy and technology sent the borough into decline. It is notable today as the site of one of the world's few museums devoted entirely to horology.

We were fortunate to stop in shortly before the cafe' was closing. The owner was gracious and very helpful in directing us to other interesting sites. The drink was delicious.

I stumbled upon the Rustic Cup a few months ago. I am an avid coffee drinker - with admittedly an unsophisticated palate. My spouse shares my enthusiasm but delights in all of technical details of growing, roasting, brewing etc. She can distinguish between beans that natural or washed etc. I want strong coffee with something to lighten it and something to sweeten it. Here's the great news: there's a place at the table for both of us at The Rustic Cup. The owner, Kris, welcomes everyone and creates a vibe that is truly comfortable. He has partnered with north central Pennsylvania roaster, to bring really good, small batch coffee to York County. The coffee is important and delicious but Chris is really trying to create a community as well with board game nights, open-mic afternoons - original work only please - and is always looking for ways to partner with artists, writers etc. This all probably sounds pretty hipster - it's not. The typical Saturday afternoon includes 2 cups of coffee, 2 fancy drinks like the brown sugar, maple, oat milk concoction that is my current fave and 2 biscotti for about $20. It is a little tricky to find but persevere. You won't regret it.

I was here a few years ago to price wedding cakes. I was hoping to find a local baker to keep my money in the community. This woman makes cakes that have won blue ribbon awards and have been featured on TV shows. That said, the supplies, photos etc are in her basement. Some of the photos are yellowed and in general it smells musty/mothballs. Her price is average for a wedding cake and I am sure she does great things but the smell was enough to turn me off and not buy a cake from her. She is super friendly and will take all the time you need to answer any question you may have but if you are hoping for something commercial this isnt the place to go.
