Chesterfield is a market town and borough in Derbyshire, England. It lies 24 miles (39 km) north of Derby and 11 miles (18 km) south of Sheffield at the confluence of the rivers Rother and Hipper. Including Whittington, Brimington and Staveley it had a population of about 103,800 in 2011, making it the second largest town in the ceremonial county after Derby. Archaeologists trace it back to a Roman fort built in the 1st century AD, but soon abandoned. Later an Anglo-Saxon village developed. The name derives from the Old English ceaster (a Roman fort) and feld (grazing land). It has a street market of some 250 stalls three days a week. The town sits on a coalfield, which was economically important until the 1980s. Little visual evidence of mining remains. The best-known landmark is the Church of St Mary and All Saints with its crooked spire, originally built in the 14th century.

One of the most enjoyable hours Iâve ever spent. The place was spotless and the hygiene couldnât be faulted. There was no unpleasant odour whilst we were there at all.Cats arenât daft, if theyâre stressed or mistreated it shows and these beauties were nothing but extremely playful, affectionate and eager to interact with visitors. The food and drink we had was beautifully prepared, tasty and homemade. All of it superbly presented on lovely tableware. So what if it is run as a business? You donât have to be exclusively a charity to care for animals and provide a service. The owners obviously care for these cats and it shows. To suggest that because they drive nice cars theyâre only in it for profit is ridiculous. We canât wait to visit again and would recommend this place to anyone who loves moggies

Situated in the heart of Chesterfield and established in 2010. A successful family business that offers a friendly and relaxed atmosphere for customers.
A wet October Sunday afternoon in Chesterfield is not an ideal destination, but a lunchtime film at the Pomegranate Theatre made it unavoidable. We were in need of a coffee, and spotted the café on the way back to our car. An advertising board outside the café offering a tea/coffee and scone seemed appealing, so in we went. It was towards the end of any possible lunchtime rush, and we easily found a comfortable seat. The scone was good, the coffee was fine, and the ambience just right. The menu looked interesting and â from what we could see being served â generous and well-presented. When the opportunity presents, weâll probably call in for lunch sometime.A minor point â some crumbs remained on the table from previous diners. Attentive staff would have spotted that â¦. but the owner (well, I assume he was the owner) smilingly apologised for the weather as we left, which made up for the oversight.

The tea rooms were openend in January 2014 as an extension of the already popular farm shop. We stock one of the largest ranges of tea in the area with at least 12 varieties on offer at any one time. If you like a particular variety then they are availabl
Four of us called for lunch on a Wednesday (Wednesday being "pie" day) but apart from the views over the surrounding countryside, we weren't overly impressed, despite this being our first visit. Yes, the staff were friendly and the meals were OK (the roast potatoes had probably been hanging about for a bit, we thought, and were dry) but we didn't like the racket put up by the mums and kids at several tables and other comings and goings to the cramped, little dining room. We also didn't like being charged £2.40 for a small bottle of pop either. (The same pricing principle applies in the adjoining farm shop which appears to have pretensions to becoming a mini-Chatsworth farm shop offshoot.) As it's not a pub or hotel, this place does not serve alcohol. What really got my goat was the ceiling light above us which flicked on and off at random as we ate. That was annoying.Overall, I would say this is OK as a roadside country caff but I wouldn't go out of my way to try it, to be honest.

Iâve eaten here several times before and the food has been good, but donât expect a sandwich after 3pm. Toast is apparently impossible then, too, because â The chefâs gone homeâ !!! ( Didnât know toast requires a chef.) This was at 3.30 and the choices were my grandchildrenâs. Not much flexibility or goodwill on this visit. Very disappointing.

Stamp Coffee Shop is situated within the village Post Office in Ashover. Serving delicious tea, coffee and hot chocolates, light breakfasts and lunches, gorgeous homemade cakes, scones and brownies. Walkers with boots and dogs are very welcome. Last food
Walked in to be greeted by saying only drinks and we had not even sat down. He refused a group of walkers at 2oclock saying not serving anymore. A little disappointedWeâre so sorry to cause disappointment. We do indeed stop taking food orders an hour before closing and itâs correct you were told this when you came in. However, we do this simply because itâs frustrating for customers to sit and look through the menu only to be told the kitchen is closed. We do put this information inside our menus but many people miss it. We will bear your comments in mind and try to make it clear for customers before they come in. Once again, weâre very sorry for any inconvenience caused.

When we visit friends in Coal Aston we sometimes treat ourselves to a lovely meal at the Hackney House Cafe. It is a treat for us as we live in the USA and enjoy good comfort food. The Hackney House is a Cafe. It is not a huge restaurant nor as far as I am aware affiliated with any restaurants or roadside pubs. It is just a small business that stays in business by producing a very good product, a meal, that you will enjoy at a decent price. It is an older and smaller structure so that it isnât the best for wheelchairs. There are little hideaways scattered throughout the buildings with a lovely conservatory and an outside eating area. If you have difficulty getting about ask for a table that will be easier for you to access if you call ahead for a reservation. Reservations are a good idea on weekends and special holidays as they do tend to stay busy.So far we have never experienced a poor or mediocre meal there. It is simple fare but well done. You receive a good sized helping so that if you are not a large eater you may have leftover. We have never had the desert yet because we have always been filled up from the meal. We do look with envy at other diners that partake of the lovely deserts.Parking is, like most areas of the UK, not the easiest to procure. It is there but you may be parked up the lane.
