Reviews on Cafe food in Chester-le-Street, England, United Kingdom. Chester-le-Street (/ˈtʃɛstər li ˈstriːt/) is a town in County Durham, England. Its history goes back to the building of a Roman fort called Concangis. This Roman fort is the "Chester" (from the Latin castra) of the town's name; the "Street" refers to the paved Roman road that ran north–south through the town, and which is now called Front Street (shown at right).

Tealicious Tearoom offers a relaxing atmosphere in which to enjoy the 17 individual blends of loose leaf tea served in a collection of unique fine bone china tea cups. Fresh homemade cakes, scones and sandwiches made to order, makes a visit to Tealicious
If your perception is of tearooms being stuffy and you don't like that this is the place for you. I don't like cake so I avoid tearooms but one of my friends was adamant that we would go here and so three of us trooped in. I don't think I have ever had a more rapturous response. The head lady was bliss, the other customers talked to my friend because she always involves everybody. We had a wonderful couple of hours there. Because it's small everybody can hear you so perhaps apologies to the few who thought we were taking over but we got to talk to a gorgeous baby and her parents, a couple from Leicestershire and the waitress. What a lovely atmosphere. Now for me a meal without wine is breakfast so how relieved was I to find that they do prosecco and not just any prosecco, it was icy cold and dry and the day was warm and bright. The sandwiches were superb. We didn't have cake but if you go I would try some. You will be spoiled for choice.

This is one of our local spots and we visited yesterday. Lovely tea which is loose tea leaves. Gorgeous cakes, scones etc. Inside of the tables are games for the children too which our daughter loved! Also is a florist and sells local items which are lovely. Beautiful room and very friendly warm staff. Will be coming again!

The food is homemade.mince and dumplings, steak, mince and corned beef pie all with fresh vegetables. The breakfast is cooked to order which you will not get better anywhere and great value for money. All in all the best food in chester-le-street
The children really enjoyed their holiday treat chocolate milkshakes and I enjoyed some fudge cake with raspberry ripple ice cream.Itâs unusual for the milkshakes to be made with sweets rather than ice cream, but the children love fishing the pieces of chocolate out of the bottom of their shakes.

This is a proper old fashioned tea room with excellent service, home cooked food and reasonable prices. Given that the main road and busy shops are a minute away, this place is a sanctuary of peace and a friendly welcoming atmosphere. The little garden and outside tables are great on a dry day, surrounded by bushes and birds feeding at the little table. It's tiny but great. We often meet up with friends there and whether inside or out the service is always great and the food tasty. The homemade cakes are mega!

A âPay As You Feelâ café on Chester-le-Street high street. Built by volunteers, run by volunteers, and fuelled by food waste, a beautiful place of inclusive community and creativity. REfUSE is Durhamâs branch of The Real Junk Food Project: a network of or
Having walked past a couple of times I was keen to try this cafe where the ingredients are donated foods that would otherwise go to waste. Surplus produce from allotments and unsalable supermarket fresh food, for whatever reason, find their way onto the menu and the community fridge and shelves on a "pay as you feel " basis. The cafe is a large, quirky space with mismatched tables and chairs, bare brick walls and recycled pallets. We ordered a selection of hot dishes and chose what appealed. The soup, spiced pumpkin, was tasty if a little thin. Beef stew and mash was standard winter fare. The squash and grain dish was a dish of two halves. One part was a mixture of squash cubes with quinoa that was just warm but seemed to have burnt on the bottom of the pan while the other was a pile of mashed spicy squash that was piping hot. We also ordered tea and one piece of cake and took a pot of soup from the fridge that came from Booths, the Waitrose of the north!!The positives are the friendly volunteers and the overall concept. Points for improvement include the general finesse of the dishes and the temperature of the cafe which we found a bit chilly, especially when the staff went into the back. One toilet had no toilet paper and the other had no hand towel. Overall it's worthy of a repeat visit and I wish them every success. We paid what we would normally spend on lunch at one of the pubs on Chester le Street Front Street but ate freshly prepared rather than commercial food which is always a bonus. You can also pay by pledging a service such as washing up or playing live music.
