Castro Urdiales is a seaport of northern Spain, in the autonomous community of Cantabria, situated on the Bay of Biscay. Castro Urdiales is a modern town, although its castle and the Gothic-style parish church of Santa María de la Asunción, date from the Middle Ages. Its chief industries are tourism, fishing, and the preservation of fish, especially sardines and anchovies, in oil. The "Lolin" and "La Castreña" anchovy canning factories serve as a reminder of the town's closeness to this industry and its proximity to the sea.

We took a day trip to Castro Uridiales in search for some seafood and a nice Spanish Sunday lunch. We were greeted by unfriendly, rude and unhelpful restaurants that despite having free tables refused to take us. So we were left wondering around until we found Amarras. The waitress tried her hardest to accommodate us and she understood we were tired, hungry and disappointed. She was extremely helpful, and swiftly set a table for us and we ordered from the daily menu. The food was average but still good, I wouldn't go back for the food, but I know they have a more extensive menu ordinarily which I assume is quite good. What really made the experience was the waitress and her friendly service. I dont think I would ever go back to Castro Uridiales, it reminds me of a cheap seaside resort, but it might be different in the high season summer months. If you find yourself here, do pop in to Amarras as you will for sure be welcomed with a smile not a frown like all the other places recommended her on trip advisor.
