Moktar's is a small place in Merthyr that punches well beyond its weight or prices. I've recently had Sunday lunch (booking advisable) and a weekday lunch there. The former offered a choice of meats and well cooked vegetables (i.e. not overcooked so they have taste and texture). The latter was from the specials board, a peppered tuna steak and I was offered a choice of potatoes and side. The tuna was delicious with a lemon sauce and a generous serving of carrot, peas, cabbage, broccoli and new potatoes. For less than £8 this was excellent.
There has been a café previously in the Cynon Valley Museum, this has now recently re-opened under new management and with a new name.Food is very freshly prepared and there is a good selection of light meals. The lady in charge could not be more pleasant and helpful. We dropped in for breakfast, having been very impressed when we were there during a Steam Punk event, when the café was serving a smaller menu prior to the official opening. The rolls we had on that occasion were just like home made and that is definitely a compliment. We both had scrambled egg on toast for breakfast and, unlike in some places, the egg was plentiful. We hope to return before too long and try a lunch. What a lovely review! Thank you so much. X
If you are feeling hungry and want a huge no nonsense Sunday lunch then get yourself to the "Llwyn" For £8.95 you get Chicken, beef or pork (lamb I think is £1.00 extra) new or mash potatoes, roasters, roast parsnip, peas, carrots, green beans.Yorkshire pud, stuffing ball, delicious gravy, PLUS you get dessert which varies week to week. Honestly you cannot go wrong. Also on offer is a takeaway or delivery service. The cafe us also open throughout the week except Monday, delicious full English breakfast for £5.95.Thank you Maria, Mandy and the team.Kelvin.

Little things spoil my visits here. No sugar or napkins brought with my latte. Shouldn't have to go back to the counter to ask. Coffee is decent enough. Outside sitting area very pleasant and the building is splendid. Really like what they have done with the place. It's the second best in town after Dolce Deli

Very homely place. Staff were all lovely and friendly. We were only going for drinks but were so tempted by the displays. We had very, very nice hot food. We just sat for ages resting and enjoying the place. We did not find it too pricey at all. We will go back one day if we go to Aberdare again. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
