25th wedding anniversary. 10 of us gathered for what was a very special night, made not just by the company, but by the exquisite house and grounds. Stuart, Eddie, and Kayleigh truly warranted their five star rating, with beautiful food, excellent service and for just being warm and friendly people, who really understand how to make a special occasion, a memorable one. Some may consider it expensive at £45 per head, but you really get full value from beginning to end. Everything is included, with coffees and a lovely cheeseboard at the end.Drinks are extra. Wine menu is simple, but caters for everyone, and is very reasonably priced.Consett does not have many fine dining restaurants to boast about...but this is definitely one of them.

Bradley Burn Farm Shop and Cafe is open throughout the year. Housed in a beautiful log cabin, tables on our terrace overlook the burn flowing past. Enjoy home cooked fayre beside the wood stove while the kids explore the enclosed play area just outside. F
Well I don't want it make too long but today my family and myself went there and the place is lovely. Nice location. The food is terrible my wife asked for some ham and cheese toast and the bread was the cheapest ever you can buy in a supermarket then they put three pieces of ham on each toast and that was almost four pounds. Can you believe it? then I asked for a lasagna and it was disgusting presentation. It looked like they basically threw a piece of s..t on the plate I say plate because they literally put it on the place round and not square and there was not layers whatsoever in was like glue in a plate. The service is awful, the young girls who work there should go with their mums back again. They literally clean only a small section of a whole table just to pretend that they were cleaning something, now there was a family previous to us there with children and as you expect the mess was noticeable. Please don't go to this place believe me unless they change the management and the cook and the people serving. Disgusting! Thanks for your feedback. We are carrying out a full investigation into all the issues raised. You chose two of our more popular dishes, so I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy them. We'll make sure that our high standards are maintained consistently.

The Fir Tree Country Hotel, bar and restaurant is nestled in the small village of Fir Tree itself and is surrounded by beautiful countryside, right on the doorstep of the Durham Dales. Just a 10 minutes drive to Bishop Auckland and only 12 miles from the
We have eaten here many times and enjoyed the food. However, today we called in for a drink on our way home at lunchtime. I took a seat at the bar whilst my husband went to order the drinks. There was no one behind the bar. O.k. Busy time. We waited and waited. Then my husband pressed the bell, still no one !!! We eventually left. No one even noticed us going.

Im reluctant to critisise a local hotel/restaurant because I think it is important to support local business, however our whole evening had an air of the faulty towers about it from the moment we booked, starting with a mix up on arrival about the number in our party, followed by the disclosure that the ice machine was broken, and the young lady who was managing to serve both the customers in the bar and take the food orders in the restaurant only knowing two dishes on the menu.Despite this she is an asset to the restaurant as she is capable, polite and able to juggle the demands of both a busy bar and a restaurant full of hungry customers. The restaurant has been redecorated and refurbished with very nice furniture, mirrors and ornaments. There is car parking to the side and rear of the hotel. I cant comment on the facilities as I didn't use them.To be fair we were served fairly promptly with a complimentary dish of prawn crackers and then the young lady came back from behind the bar and took our order. We shared a starter which was nicely cooked and nicely presented. We ordered Chicken Pad Thai (chicken noodles), which, when we eventually got them, were glutinous and bland, the chicken was very nicely cooked but the topping of crushed peanuts only added to the dryness of the dish and the accompanying mountain of refrigerated beansprouts added nothing at all.The chicken massaman curry tasted mainly of potato, which although it is one of the main ingredients, unfortunately dominated the delicate tamarind and coconut ,garlic flavours of the sauce. The Jasmine rice side dish was lovely. The young lady serving flitted between bar and restaurant without getting flustered however, despite her efforts sevice was slow. This is not a criticism, as I fully accept, if you are cooking from scratch with fresh ingredients then it will take time to serve a good meal, I really wish we could say we had a good meal. It was average.Tables filled up quite quickly while we were eating and we felt grateful we had arrived early, as by the time we were leaving there were rumblings from several other tables querying the delay in service. We decided we would go back again and try other dishes on the menu as we have eaten Thai food all over the world and it is a favourite cuisine so we would really like to find Thai dishes we can enjoy close to home.Thank you for your feedback and for the positive comments about our restaurant and our staff. You say you have eaten Thai food all over the world. Does this include Thailand? We serve only authentic Thai food. The pad Thai noodles are imported from Thailand. Pad Thai noodles are different to other noodles that you may have eaten before. In Thailand pad Thai is served with peanuts and beansprouts. You should mix everything together before eating the dish.If you don't know how to eat Thai food our Thai staff would have been happy to help if you had asked. We had a Thai lady eating in the restaurant that night who also ordered the Pad Thai. She commented that it was delicious and that it is hard to find authentic Pad Thai like this in England. The massman, panang and pad Thai are very popular here and we always get great comments. Massman curry should taste sweet, salt, sour and coconut. If you do not like ths style then you can order another thing from the menu.Yes the restaurant was busy that night with customers sitting in and also with deliveries and takeouts. As you rightly say the dishes are cooked with fresh ingredients from scratch and will take a little time to prepare. We note that you did not make any comments to our staff when you were in the restaurant. This would have given us the opportunity to help you and to educate you about Thai food.Next time you come to the restaurant please ask to talk to our chef before you order. She will be happy to help you and explain to you about Thai food.

Called on Friday around 5pm no problem getting a table for two. Prompt and polite service at the bar. Order taken at bar and food arrived after a little wait means freshly cooked. Nicely presented, tasted beautiful and tartar sauce home made best I have had complimented the succulent scampi. Well done will return. Waiting staff have had good training.

Visited here after reading positive reviews, was not disappointed, what a little gem! Sunday lunch was amazing, fresh and beautifully cooked, and the price was just unbelievable. The pub is very quirky, definitely no frills but I liked it, loads of interesting things to look at. Staff were very friendly and accommodating, canât wait to go back. Please note, they donât accept payment by card here, itâs cash only, donât get caught out.

We have visited the Black Bull a number of times, the food is consistently good as is the welcome and the service. Four of us called in for lunch, I chose Northumbrian pork and apple sandwich with homemade potato wedges, honey mustard salad and mango mayo, what lovely flavours. My wife chose the Glebe Farm hot beef sandwich which also came which also came with the home made potato wedges, honey mustard salted and mango mayo, very tasty indeed. Our friends had the pan roasted free range chicken breast with potato dauphinois and pesto, once again lovely food. The Black Bull is a interesting place to have a look round, the service was pleasant and friendly, the food was exceptional and a lovely location.Well worth a visit.

As we were staying in Wolsingham, we felt we should try the local cafes. This is by far the best. With a bakery attached, it really is a village experience. The display of scrumptious cakes, pies and bread is excellent. We tried the Cornish style pasties and returned to take some home! Lots of locals can be found there which is always an indication of quality. The coffee is good and competively priced. The service is very friendly. We spoke to the owner who gave us some good tips on local attractions. We will return for more pasties!!!

Came with my wife and 15week old daughter for an early breakfast. We were greeted through the door and the staff immediately made sure we had space and my daughter was comfortable. We enjoyed a lovely sausage and egg sandwich, coffee and a scone with jam and cream and coffee. The food and coffee were perfect and the staff were lovely and made a real fuss of my daughter making sure we had everything she needed. I cannot recommend number 10 cafe enough for the food, service and family friendliness.
