A real coal fire welcomed us upon arrival for dinner last evening and we received an added welcome from the friendly barman. Having heard the Golden Lion was under new ownership we were completely open minded on our expectations. My husband and I shared an ample plate of nachos to start, followed by the Pan Fried Halloumi Burger for myself and the Handmade Beef Burger for my husband. Our food was excellent in both quality and quantity and served with a smile. My husband enjoyed a pint of Horizon beer and I sampled a couple of the quality white wines available. As a local couple and having enjoyed our evening we will definitely be back. Just an added note, it was good to see that well behaved dogs are made most welcome.Thank you so much for your comments, we look forward to welcoming you back again soon.Best wishesScott and Debbie

Cabinet Rooms is an independent café-bar which offers great coffee, light food, interesting wine, curious gins and fantastic cocktails.
Great coffee in the day, great gin in the evening, excellent service and worth a visit, especially if you're local and looking for somewhere to stop in for a drink or a bite to eat off the high street.Thank you so for much for your kind review. We appreciate the recommendation from you and thank you for your custom; both day and night!

Visited for Sunday lunch on a busy September afternoon. Agree with many of the previous comments - this is an attractive pub with outside tables in an 'L' shaped garden. The service is friendly and reasonably efficient, however we found the food average at best. The roast potatoes were tasteless and appeared to have been reheated, the beef wasn't great either.

The food was good it just didn't blow my socks off. Had a king prawn appetizer which was best and honestly 2 days later, I cannot remember my main course. Desert involved chocolate but I dont remember wanting to die because it was so good (as one does when eating good chocolate).

Came here on a recommendation of friends who have made repeat visits. The portions are generous and we had ordered extra fries as well which werenât necessary. The croque monsieur and croque madame (with a fried egg on top) were great, the mushrooms were delicious and the trout sandwich was enormous but excellent. Staff were lovely and attentive with prompt service and it was a perfect stop for lunch. Weâll be back.

Unlike some other reviewers, we arrived after 8 on a busy Monday evening without a reservation and were fitted in with no fuss. Our four dishes were all very good: mussels and lamb cutlets (three tender, thick cuts served appropriately pink) were outstanding. Excellent wine by the glass. Attentive service by the girls, with some nice little touches without having to ask (e.g. water, extra plates and cutlery as we shared dishes, finger bowls). All nicely timed at a relaxed pace. Buzzy atmosphere without being noisy, pleasantly casual as against the pretentiousness of our hotel. One of the most enjoyable meals we have had in a while. Not cheap, but worth it for the quality. The Monday evening deal (£21 for two courses) made the final bill reasonable. Highly recommended.

This was our first visit, a lovely experience. Our two friends had been here several times before, a good choice for an evening meal. A good selection of pies and mash at a reasonable price. The place looks more like a sci-fi emporium than a pie shop, that's the quirky bit. Nice friendly service, a great time.

The Fox Reopened in November 2018 after an extensive 18 month full refurbishment and extension. A 19th Century inn that was remodelled in the early 1900's in the arts and craft era. It is nestled in the stunning country village of Crawley, Just 3 miles fr
The surroundings are lovely: not just the interior of the restaurant but the village and the enclosing country side. The food was excellent: not just well presented but innovative and very delicious. Definitely not what we cook at home, and we cook fairly well. I had a trio of pork meats with delicious potatoes and the richest of gravy. A big pile of cabbage could have been good to counter the richnesses but I do love cabbage. We were three lunching and all loved our food, and great coffee. I could go on. One last thing, charming staff, and a surprise dessert plate for our birthday girl, thanks for that, which included the best ever Turkish delight.

There are a lot of reviews raving about a waitress called Jess. I assume that's the name of the wonderful, funny, lovely person who served us on Friday, and if so she deserves all the praise she gets. Marwell Hotel, please double her salary at once. And then double it again. To the food: We had the tasting menu on Friday - 7 courses expertly presented. On the Saturday I ordered from the bar menu because I'd chomped my way through the restaurant menu the previous night, so I had a perfectly cooked steak with wonderful crunchy chips. If forced to quibble I could agree with some other reviews that there were more small children present than I would like, but that's because I am grumpy. This is a very inviting place and all the better for it.
