Things to do in White Rock
We were walking down the beach looking for some place to eat and saw that this had opened in the old Jimmy Flynn's location. The service was great with the wait staff introducing themselves and making sure that they knew our names. The place is right above the pier so the views are great - we were there to watch the sunset and it was amazing.Food is typical pub. But the ingredients appeared slightly better than most - they said that they hand-made most of the items rather than the normal pre-formed, pre-frozen stuff you'll find in most places. We are definitely going back - even if there was another neighborhood pub within 20min drive (there isn't) we'd still go back.

I read on their website that the individuals who started Salty's Fish and Chips originally came from Yorkshire coincidentally where I come from and in my opinion where the best fish and chips can be found. My Wife, friend and myself decided to try them out, the service was excellent and the beer my Wife and I ordered plus the soft drink for our friend arrived promptly with our orders of 2 pieces of cod and chips plus an order of mushy peas to share appearing shortly thereafter. Unfortunately there were 2 problems, first of all the mushy peas were watery and anaemic looking but the main problem was the fish which should have been the star of the meal. It was not cooked through and I would suspect that what happened was that the fish was previously frozen and had not been allowed to full thaw out before it was put in the deep fat fryer so while the outside of the fish was OK the centre wasn't cooked, this also affected the batter which looked Ok on the outside but inside was not cooked. Altogether disappointing. The total cost was $59.13 before a tip.

We are outside and enjoyed the warm July afternoon on the promenade. My cod Fish and Chips (yam fries substituted) was very good. Crispy beer battered crust and moist tender fish inside. I also had a cup of their Clam Chowder which I thought was above average for white clam chowder. My wife enjoyed her Fried Shrimp. They offer different fish (salmon, halibut) for the fish and chips. Very casual place. Our server was very friendly and attentive.
