Visited having read good TA reviews and we weren't disappointed. The staff were really friendly and knowledgeable, great range of really fresh tasting good ales in the right glasses. Reasonable prices, and to make it even better, we won a pint by balancing a 20p on a lemon! The decor is interesting with loads of photos. We visited on quiz night, so it was busy, unfortunately had to leave before the quiz started.Wish we had found this pub before, but we will definitely return.

The Crown and Anchor

Decided to eat in the crown and anchor after looking at other menus in other establishments, they had a good variety. Me and my youngest daughter had the butter chicken curry, while my oldest went for the pork bellies, all meals came out well presented, and good portion sizes, the curries came with homemade chips & nan bread, the chicken just melted in our mouths, the sauce was delicious, so was the chips & nan bread, my oldest daughter could not rave on enough, how lovely the pork bellies were. Great food and great service, with a good selection of drinks, in a nice town centre pub, what more could you ask for, can't wait to return

I have eaten many times at Granville’s and it has always been decent, on this occasion the food was good as usual but the service was not. We had a dietary requirement in our party that was treated like an inconvenience and not catered for (we wanted white bread not brown to be told they had none for example) the main waitress was moody to begin with but sort of warmed up. The other waitresses seemed v inexperienced. The whole experience left us feeling like we were putting them out somehow and we were not being demanding. One of the mains came before we had our drinks or starters. They ran out of mayo. It was a bit bizarre. Good job it is cheap. Probably would not eat here again though. When we moved to the bar it took 30 mins to get served. We came specifically to see the band who were great and there was good atmosphere but Granville’s need to note they need to pick up there service as there is lots of competition in Stone now and frankly better bars and restaurants. Certainly that provide better service than this. Thank you for your review. we are pleased that you enjoyed your meals and the entertainment but obviously we are very sorry that you were disappointed with the service. We always try to accommodate any dietary requirements as best as we can and never ever regard it as 'an inconvenience'!One of our waiting on team possibly did seem inexperienced but in fairness to her it was her first shift at Granvilles that night (we all have to start somewhere). We are not going to try and make excuses for you disappointment and have had a detailed meeting to discuss your comments in full.We do hope try us again soon. We do get many very happy customers every week!

Very nice surroundings which were clean. Easily got a table. Was early evening. Food was ok tho a little disappointing. Portion sizes were conservative. Don't think we will eat there again as we felt it was overpriced. Would go there for a drink as surroundings are pleasant.Thank you for your review. We aim to use, locally sourced and sustainable produce throughout our menu, concentrating on quality. This unfortunately does have effect on the price of our dishes and we always try to stay competitively priced where possible, however this should not have an adverse impact on our portion sizes. We will review and continue to monitor the portion sizes going forward and hope you will revisit us in the near future.

The Wheatsheaf, Stone

We went to the Wheatsheaf recently to celebrate our wedding anniversary. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome and special. The landlord even bought us our first drink to celebrate! Lovely decor, ambience, very chilled The food was delicious; hubby had bacon and black pudding stack for starters which he said was a meal on its own! Followed by Tina steak and roast veg. I can recommend the calendar starter and had salmon salad for main. Good size portions, no way could we eat pudding. We will definitely be returning, this time to try out the tapas.

Reviewed By GinaArthan

We've dined at the Wayfarer on a number of occasions but especially like visiting when it's a special occasion. Visited Saturday 19th October for pre birthday lunch with family members celebrating my sister's birthday. As always we weren't disappointed, we all four ordered a different main course and we were all well pleased with our meals. Great menu choice, extremely well presented, very professional attentive staff and nothing seemed too much trouble fo⁶ r them. We had the sharing sweet, which is apparently meant for two people, three shared it (fourth member doesnt do sweets) and we couldn't eat it all. I'd definitely recommend the sharing sweet, naughty but nice! I'd taken a birthday cake for my sister, which staff happily carried out to the table, they'd stuck the candles onto the cake and all the staff members who came to the table sang Happy birthday as they brought the cake to the table, which was a lovely touch. However, we were all far too full to eat the birthday cake. Nice venue, lovely food, great choice, friendly yet very professional staff definitely worth a visit. Might be a little more expensive than say a typical pub lunch but definitely worth paying that little extra.

This restaurant, based upon this particular visit, promised much but delivered less than anticipated.Whilst the welcome was friendly enough to what was effectively a Saturday night, only half full restaurant, we were somewhat disappointed to be directed to a poorly located table between, and effectively adjacent to, the kitchen ‘pass’ and door through which the dirty plates were being taken. Not good. Sure, we could have refused but beginning an eagerly anticipated evening in such a way is not what anyone would really want - the table really should not have been offered. Other than this the restaurant offers a pleasant enough ambience and service throughout the meal was good. Our starters were somewhat mixed in quality. The beef was good, well-seasoned and presented. The scallops with minted pea purée was very poor - three small scallops on pea purée with a complete absence of mint flavour running through it. Very disappointing. The mains similarly mixed in terms of quality. The hake was tasty, but the monk fish reported as not particularly good. The chicken supreme was tender but the balance of the dish in terms of flavour not so good - the chicken and risotto did not marry together especially well (personal taste of course). What really was disastrous was the manner in which the main course was served. Instead of the usual style of serving higher-end food on quite large plates to allow each component’s flavour to be savoured, they were served in what were effectively very uninspiring, small bowls (pudding bowls) with the food in layers e.g. the hake over the vegetables, etc. This masked flavours and components. This was quite awful. In many ways, the sweets were the best course, with a nice enough cheese board too.Wine and drinks were, as is often the way in higher-end restaurants, very expensive with not necessarily the best quality. We were not offered coffee.Overall, a very disappointing experience for the cost, and therefore weak value-for-money, certainly compared with visits in the past.

We were looked after so well, the afternoon tea was delicious, and the scones (which were a Mary Berry recipe - that good we asked!) were a delight. The sun was shining, the world passed by at a relaxing pace, what more could you ask for! Will definitely be back, thank you x
