Staffin (Scottish Gaelic: Stafain) is a district with the Gaelic name An Taobh Sear, which translates as 'the East Side', on the northeast coast of the Trotternish peninsula of the island of Skye. It is located on the A855 road about 17 miles (27 km) north of Portree and is overlooked by the Trotternish Ridge with the famous rock formations of The Storr and the Quiraing. The district comprises 23 townships made up of, from south to north, Rigg, Tote, Lealt, Lonfearn, Grealin, Breackry, Cul-nan-cnoc, Bhaltos, Raiseburgh, Ellishader, Garafad, Clachan, Garros, Marrishader, Maligar, Stenscholl, Brogaig, Sartle, Glasphein, Digg, Dunan, Flodigarry and Greap. The Kilmartin River runs northwards through the village. From where it reaches the sea a rocky shore leads east to a slipway at An Corran. Here a local resident found a slab bearing a dinosaur track, probably made by a small ornithopod. Experts subsequently found more dinosaur prints of up to 50 cm, the largest found in Scotland, made by a creature similar to Megalosaurus. At about 160 million years old they are the youngest dinosaur remains to be found in Scotland.

This restaurant was recommended by our B&B host. The food was excellent. My husband had the seafood platter special, with langoustines, squat lobster, smoked fish, fish pate, scallops and squid. He loved every bit of it. I had the duck special, with breast of duck perfectly cooked with carrots and raisins. The service was friendly. And the sunset over Uig harbor was beautiful. We were very happily surprised by this meal.

The Ferry Inn is a newly refurbished 19th century restaurant with rooms located in the beautiful fishing village of Uig in the North of the Isle of Skye. Both lively and stylish, the Inn has a restaurant serving local, high quality food, a full bar and fo
If the name conjures up thoughts of a somewhat seedy, fishermanâs drinking pub smelling of fish, immediately banish them. For a start, itâs on the opposite side of the small bay from where the Western Isles ferry leaves, but more to the point as soon as you walk in you sense you are somewhere special. The decor, the attention to detail, and the cleanliness are second to none. There are only four rooms, and ours was spacious with high class modern facilities, eg a large rainfall shower. The food is outstanding. My only picky observation is that the dinner menu has only four main course choices and doesnât vary through the week although there is also a special at weekends, so if you are staying a while, as we were, you may run out of options. But enough of that, itâs well presented food by excellent attentive staff, and the breakfasts are excellent. The restaurant, comfy lounge and enticing bar are downstairs, where you will also find the helpful and friendly (although he will deny it) host. Parking is right at the door. There isnât much to Uig but if you really want shopping try Glasgow. The scenery is utterly superb and there are great walks, all you have to hope for is good weather. Just go. But remember, Skye is a huge island so you need to think about your itinerary and not be too ambitious otherwise you wonât get out of your car.

Whether you're regular dining locals (like my wife and myself) or visitors discovering this rare gem of a small restaurant for the very first time, we are all agreed on its exceptional quality food at VERY affordable prices! From warm greeting to cheery farewell, Morag and her small crew of highly attentive and polite staff go out of their way to ensure your dining experience will be exceptional. For sure there may be some diners who turn up their noble noses at such local, community-based, unpretentious and honest coziness - they may even liken the fare to their ... school meals!! - but few of us, alas, will have enjoyed the privileged rearing of an Etonian breakfast banquet!! For me (a very senior but quite humble military officer, well used to grand dining around the world) the meals at this lovely little place - forevermore known as "Morag's Magic" to me - is as good vfm as any of the finest cordon bleu 'breakfasts' out there in this pretentious world of diners!I commend you to Morag's Magic. Bon appetit!

Three of us called in for lunch. We were made very welcome. The tomato and basil soup was lovely and filling. The coffee and homemade cakes were equally good. An excellent place for lunch.

We came upon Columba by chance on route to flodigarry, we returned several times, the range of food was excellent, every dietary want catered for. Our hotel chef should visit. Warm, welcoming staff with an amazing ethos. Thank you for your hospitality. We enjoyed sitting in your very unusual building. A true gem.

Situated on the stunning North East coast of the Isle of Skye, overlooking the picturesque Loch Mealt and the dramatic Trotternish Ridge, is the small hand weaving studio and gallery of Maggie Williams. Come and see Maggie at work on her 16-shaft dobby lo
Due to the rating on tripadvisor we thought we would give this place a try when passing. We ordered tomato and basil soup with home-bread bread, followed by nougat cake and tiffin. The soup was hot and delicious and the home-bread was soft and dreamy which is exactly what was needed when it was raining outside. Both cakes were made with dark chocolate, very rich but incredible tasty! Inside there is a collection of artwork on sale which is interesting to look at, there were only 3 tables and a weaving machine, the owner does say if you wish a demonstration on how to weave this could be arranged. In the cafe beside the menu, Ellishadder Art Cafe explains how it started and how they grow a lot of the ingredients used which is very inspiring. This is a lovely little place which is worth a visit.
