We wanted a light lunch so chose the savoury cream tea of large and beautifully light cheese scones served with cream cheese, cheddar cheese and pickle plus an excellent quality cup of coffee. We were treated to live 50's singing too. Prices are very reasonable.

The Black Horse Inn , friendly, family-run, village pub that dates back to 1867. Situated in Tudhoe Spennymoor, on the outskirts of Durham City. A traditional pub that offers amenities including complementary Wi-Fi pool table, darts, multi screens showing
Tried the Pittmanâs grill following its relatively recent modernisation. Room tastefully decorated and now managed by Monica. This Polish born lady really knows her stuff. After a few visits you are warmly welcomed by her and feel appreciated. She has improved the menu, the quality of the food by hiring a new chef, which turns out to be her husband. Food is always good quality and there are different offers nearly every night. The best offer is the two for one grill night on a Wednesday night but best to book a table for this. There is also a 48oz steak challenge if you eat in an hour itâs free. Another offer is free deserts with a meal on a Friday. Service can be a bit slow at times but not so bad to irritate you. We have also tried Sunday lunch and the quality of the food especially the beef or pork was excellent. So well done Mon and her team for reinvigorating this local hostelry.

5 of us went on the spur of the moment and we were glad we did. It was 7.30 on a Monday night and plenty of tables free. I think people eat here early as only a couple of people came in after us. I had lager and it was good. The service is very friendly, informal and helpful. We all had chicken in one form or another and they were all very very tasty. The portions are big and you get loads of really nice chips. I was the only one to eat it all and I was stuffed. The staff are happy to get your drinks at the bar if you would like them to. The place used to be The Greyhound pub, but had the restaurant built on the back a few years ago. It didn't look as nice as it is now. Just over £100 for 5 big main courses and 13 drinks. I'd go back any time.

caffe No 3 is in Spennymoor and was opened in 2014 as The Cake House by Tracy who still owns it today. The caffe has changed over the last 18 mths to mainly vegan and vegetarian with plans to stop serving meat in the coming months. Tracy transitioned to v
This cafe (now called Caffe No 3) offers options for: vegan, vegetarian and meat-eaters. We were greeted warmly by the owner Tracy, who was very welcoming and helpful. I had the lasagne (vegan) with salad and lattice fries, with a soya latte, finishing off with a big slice of lemon and cherry sponge cake. The food was delicious, fresh, and made with love. There were loads of other vegan options ranging from comfort/indulgent to more healthy options, including toasties, soup, scones, burger and hearty salads. Toilets (and eating area) were spotlessly clean which says a lot about a place in my opinion! Also, free parking available in an area behind the shop, past parking area for Iceland/Home Bargains.

Set in the heart of a picturesque deer park. Whatever the occasion The Library Restaurant at Whitworth Hall Hotel can offer you a dining experience you will remember for all the right reasons.
Beautiful meal, elegant restaurant , a little thing, but beautiful white table linen and napkins. The staff were very attentive, not in an over effusive way. Coffee in front of a roaring fire was smashing!

Checked on here first for reviews before visiting and had high hopes based on other reviews. But felt massively let down for the price. Sunday roast was bland, not even salt and pepper added enough flavour. Toby Carvery provides a better lunch. Positive was good gravy and large portion sizes, food served well within 10 minutes of ordering. Ordered a cheesecake and not sure where the cheese was, or how long it had been there for as the kinder bueno pieces in it left the sensation of a slug being in my dessert, didnât finish that either. Wonât return.

Visited here on a Friday night and left quite disappointed, especially given the high rating on here. Where to start...Well the place was busy, very busy, which is a good thing, however the acoustics of the restaurant leave a lot to be desired. It's all hard furnishings and hard floors so noise just bounces round the room. It's a racket! You struggle to hear yourself talk and find yourself having to shout across the table to each other. As I say above I like a busy place but the noise here was deafening. It was more akin to a busy canteen. Also I'm not sure what sort of restaurant welcomes a party with a young baby in on a Friday night, screaming away but there you go. As I say in the title, this may be what you're after, but I imagine many of you reading this don't want to hear that on a Friday night in a supposedly good quality restaurant. Still, the crying baby's noise was drowned out by the general noise anyway so it made little difference! The staff were all very young boys. They did their best but it wasn't great. When we were seated, nobody brought us menus, nobody took a drinks order. In fact nobody came at all, for ages, so we had to accost the poor young pot washer who thankfully came to our rescue. Likewise when you first walk in the place is a shambles, you've no idea where to go, given it's part hotel, part pub, part restaurant. The main front of house guy wasn't exactly welcoming.Anyway, the food was okay, nothing special but it was certainly better than the environment. Quite a curious place really and one I shan't be hurrying back to. All in all if you've an ounce of class, or like places that have, I'd be looking elsewhere.

We celebrated my son's first birtday and christening at the Green Tree and it was wonderful. The food was delicious and all our guests commented on how much they enjoyed it. We had lots of help setting the room up and everything was taken care of so that we had a special day. I cannot reccomend highly enough.

Excellent soundtrack to match the top quality food. As a Bishop Auckland resident, I'm surprised to find somewhere I've never been thats so good. But I was very impressed on my first visit today. In Bondgate.Quirky and small on the outside, it has loads more to offer than spuds & even they are good. Burgers, dogs, wraps, and my own favourite burritos. Cosy inside, interesting decor, calm and relaxing ambiance with great music from the 60s and 70s - think rock, Simon & Garfunkel, Beatles etc. Even has a beer garden.I'll call again.Alatbish2, thanks for great review. Super glad you enjoyed the place. We have big plans for its future . Hope to see you again soon.
