Party of five. Two ordered the fish and chips and three the lamb. The lamb came out baaâing. we asked for it to be cooked more, when they were returned only one of the plates was edible, the other two lamb dishes full of sinew and floating on a sea of blood. A further fish and chips and pea risotto were ordered, which meant the party eating st different times. Now for the fish and chips, again not great, the chips were full of black marks and should never have been served. When the waitress came to collect the plates she was told we could not eat the chips and repliedâ donât worryâ we said no we wanted to eat them but they are old black potatoes. No response, just came with the bill. If it had not been someoneâs birthday meal we would have left earlier and refused to pay, will not be going again.

Went for meal with friends after visiting for a drink a few weeks ago and thought the meals looked lovely. Food was all beautiful, everything cooked fresh, good sized portions. I had steak and ale pudding which was really good, friends had steaks, sausage and mash and fish and chips and everyone really enjoyed their meals. Really good value, would definitely recommend it.

We were staying at the Premier Inn but decided not to take the breakfast offered there at £9.50 instead tried here after reading reviews. So glad we did. Massive Full Monty breakfast with large coffee for less than it would have cost at hotel. Friendly staff and fab food. Weâll be back on Monday just a pity theyâre closed on a Sunday. Highly recommend.

I had booked a table at this restaurant after reading the reviews stating the restaurant was child friendly and seeing the menus online.Unfortunately we did not even get to the point of being asked if we would like drinks before we left dissappointed. When we arrived for our booking we were promptly taken to our seats and then left alone. On the table was one menu between the four seats and we were not asked if we would like to place a drinks order. When the three of us looked at the menu there was only options for the sunday lunch and nothing else. We waited for a waitress to return to to our table so that I could enquire further about the menu, but no waitress approached our table. The two waitresses that were visible were busy serving one table of 6 people next to us. After a good 7 minutes or so they had still not approached us. I also noted that the couple on the table the other side of us were still sitting with their dirty plates in front of them and had been like that since we walked in. No waitresses had approached their table either. After a few more moments waiting I eventually caught the attention of a waitress and asked if they had a children's menu. I was informed they did not but she had to go and check with a colleague before coming back and confirming that children's meals were merely a smaller portion of the sunday lunch options. She also confirmed that the sunday lunches were the only menus available. Nowhere during my viewing of menus on their website or facebook page do I recall seeing that Sundays were Sunday lunch only. There was no offer to accommodate any off menu requests. Our child is a very fussy eater and will not eat proper lunches so had I been aware of this, I would have not booked. Instead I thought he would be able to choose from another menu so he could at least have a pizza.Sadly, due to this new information we had to find an alternative dining venue.I appreciate that my family's fussy eating is problematic and not the fault of the restaurant, but would have appreciated knowing the restricted menu in advance and feel this should be stated on the online menu views. The intent of this review is not to criticise the menu but to make other families with equally fussy eaters aware of this. My only criticism would really be the lack of attention to the tables by the waiting staff which seemed to be caused by a severe shortness of staff.

Went today for afternoon tea with family and have to say, it was really nice, sandwiches scones 3 choices, cheese fruit or cherry and coconut, small cakes and trifle, as much tea or coffee as you wanted, the girls were so friendly and brought out a small cake with candle on as it was 1 of the ladies birthday. I would definitely go back.

We ordered a grilled chicken breast with a sauce, mash and vegetables and I had the fish finger sandwich with double-cooked chips. Great range of beers. Friendly welcome. It's a real local as well as attracting visitors. Both meals were great. My fish finger sandwich looked like home made fish fingers. The chips were excellent so was the tartare sauce. The chicken was delicious apparently. There's a nice community feel- there was a MacMillan coffee morning happening in the other bar. The cakes and coffee looked great. The staff were friendly and really helpful to customers. Food arrived pretty quickly. Portions generous. Everything clean. Prices good. We will be back for the famous pie and chips soon.

Ha ha - just read some of the latest negative reviews for Coleman's Fish and Chip Shop. Yes it sells fish and chips and yes that, in the ,main, is battered fish and chips and they are delicious too. If I wanted a veggie meal I would go to veggie restuarant and if I ordered fish and chips there they would no doubt think I was daft ( which I'm not). So why do vegitarian expect an extensive vegitarian menu in a fish and chip restaurant? Beats me !! And as for the food being bland and expensive - are you joking !! This is the best fish and chip restaurant establishment in the north east - so good in fact that apart from frequenting it as much as possible I've been lucky enough to go there twice in the last week. Delicious food, great service and a wonderful ambience. Don't take any notice of the negative reviews - go and experience Coleman's yourself. I can assure you that you will not be disappointed.
