Been stopping off here instead of the service stations for a number of years and never been disappointed!Always try to time our journey whether from Scotland to Yorkshire or other way round to coincide with lunch or afternoon scones. Kind of breaks up the journey when you have somewhere nice to have your break.Owner and staff very friendly and great quality food for reasonable prices!

Absolute gem of a place to eat. The best chateaubriand we've ever had, and that is a huge accolade considering our previous favourite was at our number one destination restaurant in the Italian Alps. The starter and desert were equally top quality. Well worth the drive out to this village Inn and we have already booked our next visit

Family Run Bistro and Bar Serving High Quality Fresh Food, Chef/Proprietor. Outstanding Reputation.
This get together with old friends, proved to be the perfect spot, from start to finish. Welcoming host, pleasant staff, superb food and decent wine and good company. The fruit bread was very moorish ( what is in it?), the prawn starter and the plaice main were beautiful. We sat overlooking the garden which was very nice. Thanks for a lovely night.

Four and Twenty is one of those restaurants that you might pass by unless someone you knew directed or took you there. Lucky for us someone did. While visiting Penrith we had the great fortune to go to this lovely boutique restaurant. A small menu yes, but completely adequate and well thought out. It would be useless to suggest a dish because the menu changes often, but everyone was pleased with their meal. The wine list is also small but adequate to the task and overall very reasonable. The staff is also very engaging and their attention and goodhearted humor is part of the experience. I can confidently recommend this gem to anyone.

1863 is a beautiful small restaurant with a warm and friendly atmosphere. This intimate 32 cover eating experience offers customers a relaxed fine dinning experience with seasonal menus made with local produce and expertly served up by a dedicated kitchen
Very tasty and superbly presented food. Certainly rather better than your average 'pub grub' also available in the village. Obviously a bit more expensive but sometimes why not enjoy that little bit of luxury! Oh yes, each dish, and the unadvertised extras all explained in detail by the staff. I hope the chef got to know how much the endeavour of he and his team was appreciated by the evening diners and then again at breakfast.

Granny Dowbekin's is a traditional English tearoom and tea garden at the Northern tip of Ullswater and by the River Eamont. Breakfast, main meals and homemade cakes and scones are served all day. We always offer a selection of vegetarian, gluten free and
Despite the disruptions that roadworks and building the new bridge has brought, Granny Dowbekin's was still as busy as ever and the lemon drizzle cake was as tasty and generous as always. Watching the development of the new bridge was an extra bonus.

Cumbria no 1 award winning fish and chip take away. "Winning in excess of 30 national awards over the last 10 years Young entrepreneur Dan, has moulded angel lane chippie in to a fine place to eat at such a low cost" Official Top 20 in UK in National Fish
Went to this chippy as highly recommended and it won an award in 2019 as one of the 10 best chips shops in the UK. Perhaps it was the high expectations which let the place down. While the fish was lovingly cooked I found the chips to be underwhelming. Brown on outside and not all that soft in the middle. Quite expensive as well. Over £7 for a cod and chips. Had much better and from chip shops that haven't won any awards. Says a lot ...
