We drove from Sherborne to spend an hour over a belated Birthday lunch for my sister, followed by a relaxing hour or two in Sidmouth. Finding the Golden Lion Inn on line decided to give it a try, we were not disappointed. Arriving around 1 o'clock, we found the car park fairly full and wondered if we should have booked, going inside we were greeted by a very friendly member of staff, we requested a table for 3, we could see how busy it was, luckily they had one table left but suitable for a party of 6, without hesitation we were seated, within a minute we had menu's glasses and a jug of water, eating utensils and serviettes, the waitress explaining they were busy but she would come back. There was a very good choice on the menu plus around 20 more choices on the " specials board " the waitress passed us with plates of wonderful looking food, seeing what the family on the next table had, and re thinking our choices, we chose the venison sausages and mash, liver and bacon, steak and ale pie, following our choice of potatoes and veg, the food arrived hot and together, followed up with rhubarb crumble /double cream, Creme brulee, and cheese board, coffee's and a brandy, £69 a fair price for an excellent lunch, we will return !

Booked this hotel through Trip Advisor. Friendly and helpful owners - he a good cook and she in charge of reception and housekeeping. A good combination. Food was really good but not available for the whole of our stay. They managed our gluten free requirements with ease, including sausages at breakfast.

If you are looking for a good carvery meal then this is your destination. Really superb carvery and the crowd there on a Tuesday night just shows how well regarded this place is. We didn't book and there was one table left for us.

This is a great place to eat home cooked food in a friendly atmosphere. Generous portions served by great staff at a fair price. Breakfast is a must and lunch too - if you can find the room. Every age group flock to this diner - well worth your time when you're on the go and budget.

This establishment is relatively new and is run by a charity. It is run by a very friendly lady. It has a limited menu which is great value. Also a range of cakes and pastries. The cafe is located in the building formerly the home of Barclays Bank. In my view well worth supporting.Thank you for your comment. We appreciate your support and taking time to write a review.

I have been here before, and was very nice, but was disappointed this time, had Rump steak which was chewy, and the others said the same, came with what it said, but quarter of a tomato, and quarter of a mushroom I thought was a bit skimpy, seeings it was £15.95 insult, so had to ask for extra mushrooms, which I think they also charged for. The sweets was not a lot of choice, and no cheese and biscuits, so was not very happy with it.

Whilst the staff apologised for the noise, this did not help the fact that my meal, a ploughmans, was poor and bad value for money. Would I go again?
