Reviews on British food in Market Drayton, England, United Kingdom. Market Drayton is a market town in north Shropshire, England, close to the Welsh and Staffordshire border. It is on the River Tern, between Shrewsbury and Stoke-on-Trent, and was formerly known as "Drayton in Hales" (c. 1868) and earlier simply as "Drayton" (c. 1695). An award winning rural hotel & restaurant. Over 30 years we have built up a reputation for quality dining and comfortable bedrooms in beautiful gardens
The setting of this country house is lovely and worth taking a stroll around the gardens. The food is very good and only falling short of the 5 stars from us due to the fact itâs priced similarly to restaurants such as the Shard and other top locations in London. In our opinion itâs a very good second place and we are real foodies. The food is lovely and we would definitely revisit. ( this was our third visit).

Charming Village Pub/Restaurant just outside Market Drayton in the village of Cheswardine. Serving Joules Real Ales, a selection of fine wines, spirits and draft beers. Home made, Home cooked Authentic Greek Cusine and popular pub classics. Locally source
Six of us ate here last Saturday (10/08) having heard good reviews about the Greek inspired menu. We weren't disappointed. Although I was looking forward to the garlic mushrooms and moussaka, which sadly were not available. My second choices were equally good. We all had the Meze sharing platter for each couple and my main was the Pastichio. A group of us ate here in January of last year and were bitterly disappointed with the attitude of the manager and the quality of the wine (reconstituted fermented grape juice) which was part of their Grill Night offer. Now under new management, this second visit was a vast improvement and enjoyed by one and all.

A lovely tearoom off the beaten track with a selection of sandwiches/paninis/salads/hot dishes etc. Along with homemade cakes/scones/brownies and a choice of tea/coffee it's a great place to stop for a snack. Friendly staff and a little farm shop as well.

Modern British restaurant showcasing the very best of Shropshire. Terroir based tasting menu.
Enjoyed a wonderful meal at Wild Shropshire, second time we have been and cannot recommend it enough.Itâs really worth the short journey from any of the surrounding areas. We were visiting from Telford and our friends were from Shrewsbury and we all agreed we really donât have anything like this in either town. The taster menu was fantastic, whether you are a meat eater or vegetarian and the wine flight was fabulous.Simply canât recommend it enough, do make the effort to visit and you can be assured your first visit wonât be your last.

Nicely positioned near the town centre but not noisy, this brewery tap belongs to Joulesâs and is a pleasant lunch venue with outside seating as well as interesting indoor spaces. The food is good and the staff work hard to look after you.

The Chetwode Arms, Pipe Gate provide a warm, relaxed and friendly atmosphere serving locally sourced fresh food, well kept ales and a tasty range of wines. Having an extensive garden and real open fires we are sure you will enjoy the surroundings all year
Very disappointed this evening, booked for my family to come here for a roast. The young waitress with dark hair that we had seemed very dismissive and seemed to be giving us dirty looks for the entire time. In addition to this, a child from our group went up to get his roast with the rest of us. He was told really harshly that the sausages were for the adult carvery only unless we paid £1 -£1.50extra. The woman serving the carvery was very abrupt and how she spoke to him was completely uncalled for and rude. This left him upset for the rest of the meal.It took 20 minutes to have our drinks order taken and even longer for them to arrive. The food was okay. The roasties came 15 minutes after our food by the time everyone was half way through. There was hardly anyone there and so I see no reason whatsoever why service was so slow. I have had waitressing and bar jobs in the past, and yet never encountered a set of staff so uninterested and unmotivated. All in all, not worth the money whatsoever. Staff have no hospitality skills. Will not be returning.

This is our second time for Sunday lunch here, the first visit earlier this year was OK and we gave them the benefit of doubt as they were ver6 busy due to Easter Holidays, Iâm afraid this time will be the last, Food was at best veryaverage and service poor, bar staff surely and short with us when ordering, Now any good Sunday lunch will always have plenty of vegetables as these are cheap ? But one boiled potato ( still hard ) and two tiny roasts, 1 tiny parsnip, some warm carrots and bland cauliflower topped it off... meat was fine and nicely cooked but again very little of it. At £9 itâs not expensive but surely you can do better than this. Many better options in the area and would rather pay a couple of ££ more for better food and service.

Our first visit and I'm sure it won't be our last. The Wharf Tavern was incredibly busy when we arrived for Sunday lunch so thank heavens we had a reservation. They were so popular that they had extended their opening hours to cater for demand. As we were early we found a table to enjoy some beers (Butty Bach & Joules) and wine before being shown to our table by the really efficient manager who was really on the ball, quite how she managed to keep on top of all the customers was beyond me. The Sunday lunch really lived up to their reputation - a substantial quantity of lamb in a rich gravy and perfectly cooked vegetables. Really good value at only £11 per serving. All of the staff were attentive and friendly throughout. Highly recommended but do book in advance.

Modern British restaurant on the Market Drayton high street serving quality food lunch and dinner. All produce is fresh and homemade on the premises.
I own a B&B in the local area. When guests ask for recommendations its always a bit risky, however, there has only ever been praise for this place. In fact a few guests have actually said its the best meal they ever have had. The menu is excellent and all locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. You definitely get what you pay for here.
