A wonderful Country Pub on the River Soar.
We chose The Otter for location and on the basis of good meals at others in the chain. Oh dear. It is direly in need of refurbishment- dirty, tatty, and not so fragrant, at least in the loo area. Our table was squeezed into a very tight corner. Staff polite enough but service casual. The food was pretty poor. Our mains were dry and had clearly been under the heat lamps for ages. Salads were limp and unappetising. The pie suffered from anaemia. The fish cake? What fish? Vegetables poor- mashed potato like a solid, crispy lump. At least we werenât hassled to finish and managed to complete our meeting. A poor business decision. Hi there, we regret to hear that you had a negative experience with us, but would appreciate the chance to turn your experience around. We would like the opportunity to find out how we can better assist you in the future. If you are willing, please contact us.Kind RegardsThe Otter

I came here regularly when I lived in the area 35 years ago. It has changed but little in the meantime. The service and food are still very good.

Dropped in to buy food & drink lunch items to take away. The food was good however the attitude of the staff certainly left a lot to be desired! No pleasantries or smile when taking the order. I ordered 2 large Americanos. Whilst the person was preparing the drinks I tried unsuccessfully to attract her attention or in fact any other member of the team who were all busy preparing food, to request hot milk in the coffee. When the drinks were placed on the counter they looked like small cups, I asked if they were large & was told they had run out of lids for large cups !! No dialogue about this no apology or would small be ok? Just a bad attitude of â this is what youâre getting â.I said I had wanted hot milk in the cup but couldnât attract her attention, again her attitude was very dismissive stating â well Iâve already put cold milk in nowâ Absolutely appalling attitude, I read another review of â service with a smileâ & wondering if that person was being ironic! I will not be going there again!

Met a friend here for brunch and wasn't disappointed. My friend had eggs Benedict and I had the big full Oliver's breakfast. There wasn't any black pudding but I was offered and extra rasher, banger or egg as an alternative.Everything was lovely and cooked well. Really enjoyed the food and the catch up. I will be back.Great to hear you enjoyed your visit to Oliverâs, thanks for taking the time to leave a review!

Well we went for a walk and for the first time in nearly a year stoped by. Caroline had fish and chips. I had chilli. I ordered it with chips because as I said at the bar I didn't want a fuss like last time with wedges. But the barman said they could do wedges. So I said yes. Had my meal , two lovely pints.....then the bill came with a £1.50 "upgrade" to wedges. At no time was I told this charge would be imposed, and instead of leaving a good tip for an excellent meal, we left and paid the bill straight. If you don't want to do wedges don't do them, but we all shop and buy wedges for the same price as chips...and you just put them in the oven the same way........so to make out it's some super special effort for a premium priced option is crazy as the chilli tastes better with wedges than thin chips by a mile. Look guys we like your pub, your new decor, your beer and your food.....it's just that it seems a bit sad when this happens. Last time you did this because you said you were running out of wedges....this time no explanation . It just went as an item on the bill. And the difference was instead of paying up with a good tip and thinking we'll go back again and again over the summer, we are thinking where else can we go next time? What a shame because it was a real nice chilliHello Bill, Please accept my apologies the staff are strictly instructed to advise that there is a cost to the upgrade, this was following your previous visit. More staff training has been given since. Due to having a small kitchen the only thing we don't prepare in house are the chips and wedges, we simply do not have to room to enable it especially when it is important to us that we offer homemade and freshly cooked meals. Therefore, we have to buy them in and they are unfortunately more expensive as you will notice in the likes of Morrisons or Tesco. At first glance they may seem the same price, but they are smaller bags so the price per kilo is higher. It is what it is.We are so glad you liked the food and ale, it is important to us that we keep our standards.Hopefully, you will give us another chance as you liked the food, but please when you book or pop in could you ask for myself Caroline. I am the Landlady and would love the chance to talk to you directly and thank you for your reviews. By taking the time to leave a review you highlighted an issue for us that we can resolve for which we are grateful and maybe offer one of our new desserts as a 'peace offering'.Kind reagrdsCaroline Scrivin the Landlady

Sandwich bar, delicatessen and coffee bar serving freshly made hot and cold food and drinks
Was taken here by colleagues on a rare trip to Castle Donington. Wide menu choice. Was spoilt for choice but settled on a jacket potato and tuna. Was well prepared and still hot when I returned to the office with the take away.Thank you for taking time out of your day to write a lovely review for us, much appreciated!

My husband and I had the pleasure of visiting the orangery @ number 42 ,whilst staying in Kegworth. This newly opened restaurant with its modern and elegant surrounding where one can enjoy modern local art, was a real surprise. Andy, the chef showed a real passion for the food on offer, with several unusual twists. Husband enjoyed the most succulent fillet steak, cooked to his liking and he was blown away with the mushroom ketchup and the confit tomato. I had a moist salmon with the most luxurious crab and cream sauce . There was no rush in getting us to finish our courses, appreciated this as it gave us the opportunity to enjoy our meal at a sedate pace. Certainly worth a visit ! Many thanks for your genuine review, we and all the staff appreciate your kind words and custom. We very much look forward you visiting us again very soon.

We are Six, the modern British rooftop restaurant with views over Nottingham, West Bridgford and Trent Bridge. Join us for lunch, dinner and drinks.
I have been to Six three times since it opened. The setting and restaurant decor is fabulous. I love watching the changing view as it gets dark. The cocktail bar is fabulous and I feel under utilised as a pre or post dinner drinks venue. In terms of food and service: The first visit was with friends in June. Weâre all foodies so were really keen to visit. We were left incredibly disappointed. Whilst the food was good (not excellent) the portions were tiny and hugely expensive. For example one scallop for £16 and four pieces of asparagus as a side for £4. We spent over £100 per couple with only one bottle of wine and were left so hungry we seriously considered going to McDonalds afterwards. We then received an email notifying us of a Tom Sellars event in Nottingham. There would be six courses tasting menu with wine pairings. They could cater for my gluten free requirements for £165 a head. We were intrigued so gave it another go. We had a wonderful evening. The food was incredible. The service was not the standard to match the food but the servers are all very young and tried really hard. Theyâre also really friendly so we didnât mind but I can see how some people would. We loved the evening and definitely would rebook in the future. Finally my mum asked us to take her for her birthday. We felt that Six had clearly taken on board feedback from their first few months of opening. Portions had increased and we left feeling satisfied and happy. They catered incredibly for my gluten and lactose free requirements making sure I was reassured all my food met the requirements and making me a special off menu dessert. Weâre impressed with how much the restaurant has improved in a short space of time and look forward to seeing how it develops. Hi Sam,Thank you very much for your review. It's great to hear that you think Six has improved so much since your first visit. You're certainly right about us taking feedback on board. We're delighted you like the setting and decor of the restaurant too!We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.Best wishes,Six
