The Boathouse sits on the historic quayside of Glencaple, overlooking the River Nith. With a cosy snug in which to relax and a restaurant with stunning views, it is the perfect place to meet up with friends and family and enjoy the delicious food on offer
Travelled up from North Yorkshire to meet with some very old friends who live in the north of England, and nearby Lockerbie. This was chosen as the place to gather, and enjoy old times. Made a schoolboy error, as I did not book for lunch, and was blissfully unaware of how busy it gets. This is a testament to how good The Boathouse is, as it is so very popular. A table was found for us in due course when we had all gathered, and were very well looked after by the attentive and diligent staff. The food was plentiful, and very tasty, with the only comment being a touch too much garnish of a forest of leaves. The views are stunning, and the location is idyllic, which when backed up by the service, and food, make this a memorable place to enjoy a meal well prepared. I can speak on behalf of the assembled gatherees, as they were also very pleased with their offerings, and how serene and beautiful the area is. If only it were closer, this would definitely become a regular jaunt, but alas, it was for a special time, in a special place, with special people, and made for a fantastic memory to carry forward till next we gather. I thoroughly recommend The Boathouse, but please make sure you book, so you wont be disappointed.

An absolute gem of a Bistro. An interesting venue but once inside the fun really begins. The owner explains the menu which makes a change from a teenager who has to go to the kitchen and ask about every enquiry. Certainly the best steak I've had this side of the Atlantic. Wanted to go back the following night but they close on Sundays.

Fantastic location right by the Solway Coast. Plenty of seats for indoor and outdoor dining. Cosy fires in the winter and very child and dog friendly. Locally sourced produce freshly cooked to order. Gem of a place.
We went to the Steamboat Inn last night for dinner - what a great decision! The menu is extensive and split into seafood and non-seafood sections. There is something for every taste and prices are very reasonable. The wine selection is good and again very well priced. Our food was beautifully cooked and presented.Service was excellent- fast, attentive and very friendly. The restaurant itself was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and the heat and aroma from the open log fire was great! This is clearly a very well run establishment where the owners take pride in providing a first class dining experience.Based on our visit, we have no hesitation in recommending the Steamboat Inn and we will very be returning soon.Well done and thank you.

We have eaten here several times on visits to my wifeâs sisterâs.I'm sure I have written a review before but can't seem to see it. So:The Cavens is a great place to eat and have a drink in a Trad Style Pub, it has a sound reputation, this is underlined by the fact they don't have to take bookings on small parties. - The staff are great a nice balance on Silver and New. They all work for each other, great team â all are very attentative, we were a party on 12 so we could book.I love this place and would eat British here all the time if is was my choice only.

The girls on tonight were fantastic. Service was outstanding and they were very attentive to each table. The food was delicious and the overall atmosphere was relaxing and warm. I will be back next week to try more menu items. My new favourite place in town to eat.

Came here for a light lunch on a busy Saturday and the three of us shared a large table with another couple of women. Having browsed in the excellent shop, the three of us were ready to eat. I had the large Pea and Ham soup with Loch Arthur bread. It was delicious and filling. Friends chose the ricotta and spinach pie and the other the open topped beef sandwich. Both came with generous salads. We followed with hot chocolate ( me as always), latte and Earl grey tea. Lovely service, great specials board and good menu. All on the level, ample parking, good toilets. Well worth the drive out!

Came here for a Saturday lunch. Didn't want a huge amount. Prices were very reasonable, and portions weren't huge - just about right for a light lunch.Although the restaurant was busy, it wasn't overwhelmed at all. Quick turnaround on tables meant we were seated immediately, although we had a bit of a wait for the table to be cleared.Food was good quality and clearly fresh - cous cous as a side was only slight disappointment - could do with some lemon juice or herbs just to lift it a bit.All in all, a great establishment with good food and attentive staff - would definitely come back,

A homely place to relax and eat good food.
We visit Thomas and Louisa's restaurant regularly and it was always great but Thomas;'s food is getting better and better. Compares well with many of the other estuarants we eat in all over the world when we travel.

My friend and I stayed here for one night when we were walking the Annandale Way. Itâs such a friendly, welcoming hotel. My room was large, spotlessly clean, well equipped, and the bed was really comfortable. My friendâs was smaller and looked out on the car wash but it didnât bother her as it wasnât in use much. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. We wouldnât hesitate to stay here again or to recommend it. We had a lovely stay.
