The food here is quite good and tasty, however, the cleanliness of the place leaves much to be desired. It started with the menus - they were sticky, filthy and covered with grease and, on the back, old food. The table had not been cleaned properly and was sticky. The cruet set was sticky... the table lamp on the window ledge behind the table had old food underneath it from careless wiping down of the table...None of this is acceptable in a restaurant, and if the eatinf areas are that bad, we wonder what the fodd prep and kitchen areas are like...Dear Guest,We are so sorry to hear that the cleanliness of the restaurant ruined your experience here. There is no excuse for our standards of hygeine to drop so low, and we can assure you that this is not usually a feature of our service and work at Jack and Alice. The team are aware that we cannot let the quality of our cleaning slip at all.We hope you gives us a chance in the near future to prove to you that we are better than this, and to improve your experience here.Regards,Harvey.

Had a gorgeous Lamb Shoulder with new potatoes here, at a very good price. Staff were very friendly and helpful. My wife has to have reduced meal sizes due to an operation and they were very helpful and understanding. There is a pond next to the outdoor eating area, which makes for a very pleasant meal on a nice sunny day. It's not a village idyll, due to a fairly busy road nearby, but very pleasant. We were passing through and chose this place for Sunday lunch as it was listed as dog- friendly and it looked like it had a lot of greenery around it for a nice post lunch walk. We were not disappointed. Very friendly welcome, nice ambience, offered the dog water. Good menu choice- the usual Sunday roasts offered ( I had a lovely vegetarian Chestnut roast with all the trimmings incl veg gravy and a great yorkshire pudding) and hubby had steak which was a good size and he said was perfectly cooked. Great chips too! Yummy dessert choice. Nice lakeside walks nearby. Will definitely come again if in the area. We both had two courses, and bill was just over £40 incl two pints of beer so we thought this was good value.

This is a proper cafe, your typical greasy spoon and sometime you just need a decent fry up. If you don't fancy a fry up, they do really good jacket potatoes, salads, lasagne and greek food. Good prices, quick service, and the staff get to know you and happy to share jokes etc. Great team, great food, great prices!

Every dish adds unexpected ingredients and presents itself in a unique style that makes the food in this gastro pub exceptional. The whole kitchen brigade are to be complemented.Coupled with a young service team that is both knowledgable and has personality, this is an excellent place to dine out.Ciara in particular is a great example of the wait staff. Unfaltering standards over several years is a compliment to Manager Wesley. Highly recommended by this experienced reviewer.

Family get together recently. Martin and Laura couldn't do enough for us as a group. The welcome was lovely, the food incredible - from a large group with most of the orders for steak we couldn't get over how each and every steak was cooked to perfection (from rare, rare to medium, medium rare, medium, well done). The rack of lamb was so tender. Sides complementary and wine flowing. Not one complaint :-) Cannot wait to return to this quirky, welcoming and excellent eatery. Thank you x

Dined here again last week and we always enjoy it. We both travel forty miles from opposite directions to meet up for lunch and have never been disappointed. We had a lovely table by the window and service was efficient, professional yet friendly. We always enjoy the daily specials. We always share a dessert as we are so full. Easy to park in the road. Looking forward to returning.

this delightful hostelry which has featured in many TV programmes serves excellent food at reasonable rates and always makes you welcome with the feeling that you are a valued customer. The staff are consistently charming and friendly with a lovely garden area as well.
