Booked on a Saturdayfor 8pm, arrived at 7.45. Shown our table and menu arrived promptly. Ordered at 8pm. We were given complimentary small soup mug and cheese twist, very tasty. We ordered fish & chips, and rump of lamb and waited, waited and waited. No one came to explain any delay. Eventually, an hour later the food was brought. Just a quick comment in regard to the time taken, but no real trouble taken to explain the delay. Meanwhile others who came in later than ourselves were being served their meals. Shared the chocolate platter dessert which was very good, served by the landlady as the staff were clearing to go home. Will not rush to return.

We visited here whilst holidaying in the area. Great portion sizes and lots of vegetables to go with the meats etc. Varied menu offered on other days except Sunday which is the roast. Drinks very reasonably priced and appears to be popular with the locals which is always a good sign

Local pub serving good home-cooked value for money meals. No frills - we are a pub selling food, not a restaurant selling beer. Local Real Ales. Sky TV, BT Sport, Pool table, darts, live music, pub quiz.Friendly welcome to all. Sunday lunch - booking advi

Sunday 18th AugustWe hadnât booked and it was incredibly busy so had to wait a good half hour to eat. That wasnât a problem for us since we had turned up on spec. However, although we were accommodated, it was done with very little grace. This attitude seemed to permeate most of the waiting staff in The Orangery today which blighted a family get together with my parents and sister and brother-in-Law whom we seldom get to see as we live near Bournemouth. (They live local to Speech House). The food was delicious but the coffee served to my sister in a cafetière was like dish water. This was replaced, However, when my sister commented that this was the third visit she has made of late where the coffee has been undrinkably weak the waitress displayed complete disinterest. Hopefully, todayâs service was a blip due to circumstances unknown to us. I would have marked this between a four and a five but for the horrendous service. A smile costs nothing !!! I think this is the first time my husband has not left a tip for the waiting staff. Dear anna_Rebecca_B,Many thanks for taking time to leave a review on your recent visit to us at the Speech House. Please accept my apologies for my late reply as I have been out of the UK and just returned.I am disappointed to read that you had poor service on your visit and that there was an issue with the coffee. I will take your comments up with my Front of House Operations Manager at our next meeting. My team are usually very efficient and friendly as can be seen from the previous reviews. On the positive side I am delighted to read that you all found the food delicious.I can only apologise for the poor service you received and ask that you give us another chance to prove that we offer caring friendly service. Please rest assured we take all comments seriously and use them for training purposes.Thank you once again.Peter HandsDirector/Proprietor.

Proper country Pub with Log Fires, great real ales and wines, relaxing walled garden as recommended in The Good Pub Guide. Open for lunch and supper seven days a week.
Went for Sunday Lunch. No Sunday Roast but offered a standard menu. We all had fish, one halibut and three stone bass. None of us enjoyed the food because it was so salty. Four small glasses of wine and four coffees came to £27.30 and for very inferior wine too. This pub two years ago was very good. It has gone downhill. The gent toilets were dirty with cobwebs and very unhygienic. My advice it to give this pub a miss. Other have as there were only two other tables occupied. Customers are already voting with their feet.

Forgot to bring the salad when serving the main meal until later. The chips were cold and had to go back. The replacement chips arrived after we had eaten most of the main course.Steak was ordered as medium rare and had not a trace of pink when served.(This was brought to the attention of the staff when asked if everything was OK).Only one person serving in the bar and obviously a family event in one area. Children sitting at the bar and could be heard throughout the evening.Apologetic staff but No suggestion or compensation was offered for the poor food on what was meant to be a birthday celebration. (Not a cheap meal either)Very DisappointedMr ParishAs the Business owner (for 10 Years) we will not apologise for allowing children into our Pub/Restaurant. We have always been and will continue to be a family run Pub. However, we do apologise for the chips, which were replaced with freshly cooked ones. Regarding your 10oz Sirloin steak (£16.95 including all sides and Trimmings), if you think this is expensive, you obviously haven't been out for a while! We take complaints and criticism very seriously, but the waitress service checked you, you stated your steak was over-cooked, she offered a replacement which you refused. Your plate was checked once brought back to the kitchen, and the remnants of steak were certainly not overcooked, if anything were closer to rare, of which we have photographic evidence. (If anyone wishes to see this photo we are more than happy to post it.) The outer edges would generally be more cooked than the inner. Why would a compensation be offered when you practically ate all of your meal? If you don't like children then maybe I would suggest staying at home

First of all, you definitely need to book for a Saturday night, however, it is well worth it for the treat you will receive!Food is very good with good portions and well presented. The menu has a "fish" bias, however there is plenty of other choices. All I heard all evening were people sounding their appreciations of whatever was being put in from of them!Reasonable selection of wine.Well recommended

Rural country pub in the centre of the village of Staunton just short of the Welsh border, specialising in local real ales and good quality food sourced locally whenever we can. We have a 5 star food hygiene award. We are on several walks in the Forest of
We both really enjoyed our lunch today, chosen from the chefâs specials board. I had the nachos with chilli beef and loads of cheese, which was so tasty and really filling and my husband had the pastrami style cured trout. That was extraordinarily flavoursome and unusual. Ideal as a starter or light lunch dish. See picture below. Of course the ordinary menu has a wide range of lovely offerings too. We do advise you phone ahead as tables get booked up especially at the weekend and holiday times.
