Reviews on British food in Broadstairs, England, United Kingdom. Broadstairs is a coastal town on the Isle of Thanet in the Thanet district of east Kent, England, about 80 miles (130 km) east of London. It is part of the civil parish of Broadstairs and St Peter's, which includes St Peter's, and had a population in 2011 of about 25,000. Situated between Margate and Ramsgate, Broadstairs is one of Thanet's seaside resorts, known as the "jewel in Thanet's crown". The town's crest's Latin motto is Stella Maris ("Star of the Sea"). The name derives from a former flight of steps in the chalk cliff, which led from the sands up to the 11th-century shrine of St Mary on the cliff's summit.

Having read positive publicity in a local magazine about this hotel we decided to book for a meal there on Bank Holiday Sunday. We arrived in good time and noticed there was only 1 couple in the restaurant. As nobody greeted us we wandered through into the reception area where one of the owners was sitting in his office. He suggested we might like to have a drink in the lounge first and so we ordered a bottle of rose which was brought to us by a young waitress who we believe hadnât been trained. She placed the bottle and 2 glasses in front of us and left. The bottle was warm (it had been a scorching hot day) and still had its cork and wrapper in place! A corkscrew was nowhere to be seen.I took the warm bottle into the ownerâs office and asked whether we could have a cold bottle of Rose, preferably opened for ease of pouring. He looked up and said in a slightly peremptory tone âIâll see what I can doâ (no apology). The chef arrived and let us know that there was no cold Rose but he could provide a bottle of cold white wine which he did. We asked for the menu â we were brought one by the young woman and noticed it was a Sunday Lunch menu (it was by now 7.45pm). We made our selection and, after some time, the chef returned to explain that 4 of the 5 Mains items on the menu were no longer available.Meanwhile the owner remained firmly esconced in his office just off the lounge â he clearly didnât want to get involved despite the fact that he must have heard our conversations. We had booked for this meal the day before and, not unreasonably, we had expected food to be available. The Chef did his best to offer limited Mains alternatives, one of which was the starter with some cheese added. He had been running between the kitchen, the dining room and the lounge and was clearly feeling a little harrassed. We have no complaint about him â he did his best under difficult circumstances. We asked for the bill â it came to a whopping £33â¦.for 1 bottle of wine and a plate of olives with foccacia bread. No word of apology from the owner. No offer of a reduction. We paid and left. We will not be returning. Disappointed is an understatement.Thank you for taking the trouble to review us. Clearly your experience has not come anywhere close to the level of service we and our staff would normally provide to all of our guests and it goes without saying that we would like to apologise wholeheartedly. Please be assured that we and our staff will be learning from this experience. We have now contacted you directly to apologise personally, we can also confirm that we have not taken any payment from your card (we would gladly refund you if we had) and we have offered you a complimentary meal including drinks. Traditional English menu . Our most popular being Fish and chips and Roast dinners , great for families with a vast selection of meals for the kids. A family run business since 1972 .
On a trip to Broadstairs you really need to have fish and chips and Aqua 43 fitted the bill! Whilst we were waiting for our food to be freshly cooked a small queue formed outside of people eager to eat here. My friend, who is not easily pleased, could not believe the quality of the fish. My chips and mushy peas were a treat! Thank you to everyone at Aqua 43!

We booked a table for 6 on Saturday 29th September, we were given menus on arrival, we ordered starters, and mains we were told there was only one sea bass dish left which one of our party ordered. My husdand and I ordered monk fish curry, the order was taken and then we were told it had run out, so we chose pork from the speicals board but that had all gone too. We settled on a steak and pork from the main menu but my husband asked to change his starter in light of his change of main, he asked for an avocado and crab tower, once again we were told its finished!! When my starter was brought to the table it was almost thrown at me so much so that what was on the plate toppled over into a heap. Main courses arrived, two steaks which were of poor quality and way overcooked and grey, duck which was overcooked and not rested as blood seeped out all over plate, my pork was dry with soggy skin instead of crackling. The two other mains were reported as very nice.As one plate was collected and placed on another the fork slid close to the eye of one of our party, the waitress looked down her nose and said, dont worry you've still got your eye. Within 5 minutes of the plates being collected, we were told that as we had asked for the bill the card machine would be bought to us, we had not ask for the bill, nor were we asked if we wanted a pudding and/ or coffees to follow. We would like to mention that of the three waiting staff the young male and young dark haired girl were very polite and professional, however the young blonde waitress was rude, impertinent and had a dreadful attitude. This is without doubt the worse place I have eaten in for a very long time, we visit Broadstairs fairly often and nothing would make me relive this expereince, save your money and go somwhere else!carolely2017Many thanks for your reviews, and apologies for the delay in responding but I needed some time to digest and fully investigate the comments you have made in the two reviews related to your party . I am Lemini, the Restaurant Manager and I was actually on duty at the time of your visit and despite our team working immensely hard to offer the best service we can, it would appear that on this occasion we did not get everything right. Mindful that there are two sides to every story I have spoken with all of the team working that night and would like to personally discuss this matter with you further. Could I therefore suggest that you call me directly on 01843 862013 or email me with your contact telephone number and I will call you at a convenient time. Our email address is [email protected].

The atmosphere and ambience is wonderful with good attention to detail. The decor is elegant and modern. The staff were attentive, polite, enthusiastic and welcoming throughout our meal. The food was exquisite.A light, crunchy salt cod fishcake served on piquant onions and sweet peppers, topped with an egg. The plate was dressed with a parsley drizzle. Divine. The roast sirloin of beef was deep with flavour. The roast potatoes were of the triple cooked variety, judging by the crisp crust and fluffy insides. A huge homemade Yorkshire, and mixed - perfectly cooked - fresh vegetables made up the rest of the main.Raspberry souffle for dessert was crunchy topped, tart in taste, incredibly light in texture and served with a rich vanilla ice cream which complimented it beautifully. An excellent meal and dining experience.Highly recommended.

A touch of nostalgia in Broadstairs. Step back in time and relax with a pot of locally blended tea or a freshly ground coffee. Wide selection of hot and cold drinks, many produced in Kent. Afternoon teas cream teas, children's party teas served all day. T

Unpretentious good food
We had a lovely meal here on Sunday night. Can recommend the scallops, calamari and Hake in chilli and garlic. Nice intimate surroundings but well sound proofed so a pleasant atmosphere. Service was good too. Only strange thing was it being cash only which we were only told on receipt of the bill, but I am sure that was just an oversight.

Set, six course tasting menu. We are unable to cater for allergies or dietary requirements due to size and space restrictions. Wednesday to Saturday evenings only.
Six courses, each remarkable for their taste and presentation, delivered to the table with an explanation of their main ingredients by Clio, who was waiting tonight. The flavour combinations are so well thought out and marry beautifully. We didn't have the matching wine flight, although the final dessert, "Chocolate, cherry, hazelnut" was presented with a matching wine, which sent an already delicious treat into orbit - fantastic! It's been a while, but the wait was worth it; and absolute, gastronomic delight! Can't wait to go back and sample the next menu that Ben has curated. :)

We travelled from over an hour away to come to the beach & have a nice family lunch. We decided on The Swan based on tripadvisor reviews but we were sorely disappointed. We sat outside at the only table in the sun & were quickly surrounded by people who were there to smoke. I cannot believe how inconsiderate people are to sit next to a family with young children & light up when EVERY other table was empty. Not the pubâs fault, but a designed smoking area would be an idea as it ruins other peopleâs meals. It seemed that we had sat in the âlocals only areaâ as they all seemed to know each other & basically we felt pushed out. Very unpleasant. We moved to another table & ordered some food. We were there at the start of service yet we waited an hour for food! The childrenâs burger and the adult burger were both dry & horrible. We requested the adult burger to have only cheese on it but it came with everything (pretty simple request!). Honestly wish we had just brought a picnic or done some better research before coming. Not our kind of place AT ALL. Good afternoon, First of all, please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused to you and your guests during your visit to The Swan. I can see you planned your visit to us based upon our TripAdvisor reviews and therefore know the majority of reviews we receive are very positive. Our number one concern is our customers, and that all receive the very best customer service, quality food and drink. We're so sorry this wasn't made clear to you on this day. I would like to inform you that your comments have been raised with our kitchen team and we take all feedback seriously. As for your experience with outdoor smoking, the majority of guests (we had hoped) politely smoke away from people eating, however since receiving your review we have been looking into the issue and plan to introduce a clearly labelled smoking area. It would be a shame if you do not join us again, but we certainly hope you do.Brooke Perriam The Swan
