Lovely pub in a lovely location. The staff were friendly and the meal was amazing. Portions were really big my husband couldn't finish his steak and ale pie! Worth a visit, value for money definatly worth a visit

Booked for a family birthday. Been to Custom House a few times before and again did not disappoint. Food better than last time and friendly service from the staff, backed up by personal service from Matt.A great night, will be back!

Great place to visit and loved the atmosphere and food. I had the afternoon tea with my Nan and there was lots of it! The tea room was situated right by the river and the large windows meant great views across. We were welcomed and the assortment of food was bought to our table, it included sandwiches, quiche, sausage roles, scones and a delicious selection of cakes.

Valentines set evening meal very reasonably priced three course meal. Quirky clean and nice surroundings let down only by toilets which were old fashioned and with roller towels ! thought they went out with the ark for very good hygienic reasons? Also towel in mens' had come to the end. The amuse bouche was very tasty, the starters ( a mixed tray) looked very attractive and were pleasant but a little bland. The main courses ( beef and lamb) were tasty but the pannacotta was very bland and topped with messy uninteresting meringue. The cheese board was superb. The staff were friendly. Overall the atmosphere in the side room was like a library. Not our cup of tea sadly but maybe of interest to those who particularly like vegan.

We went to eat at The Southgate in Barnstable whilst on holiday 2 weeks ago and we both enjoyed the delicious food. My girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed her vegan burger and we highly recommend this restaurant.

Probably about 20 years since I last visited this pub and it's been transformed. The pub is characterful and cosy and our party of four were made very welcome. There is an extensive and tempting menu but we stuck with just main courses. Everyone was pleased with their choices - mussels, chicken curry, steak pie and for me the maple glazed pork tenderloin served with beautiful ham hock croquettes.It most certainly deserves its reputation for pub food way above the average.

Stopped in here by chance for a late lunch after spending the morning exploring Barnstaple. We thought it might be a good choice as it was busy and the menu looked interesting. We couldnât have made a better choice. We both had the Argentinian steak with chimichurri and agreed it was the best steak we had on our 3 week vacation. What an unexpected surprise. Pleasant service too! Wanted to come back for more but ran out of time.

Had to pay a visit to Landkey this evening and decided to have a drink at The Castle. Lovely warm friendly pub, the beer was great so decided to have something to eat too. We were not disappointed great vegetarian options I had Penang Curry and my partner had Jackfruit Emchiladas both were delicious. Lovely friendly barman, landlady Sharon (Her husband is the chef) a great experience we will be back.

This is a great little pub with a terrific restaurant. It was a welcome relief on our travels to get away from the usual chips and peas based meals. There was an extensive, varied and innovative menu with entrees, mains and desserts.Everything sounded amazing so it was hard to choose.It was contemporary cuisine, but still hearty food. Its definitely the best pub food we have had in our 3 weeks of travel. Highly recommend The New Inn.

Booked a table here for Sunday lunch with family and our five dogs.Accessed by a narrow road but plenty of parking and road not that busy. Worth the journey.Met and shown to our table. Staff nice and friendly, place lovely and clean.Food, I ordered the pork bits in chilli and ginger as my starter. The best starter I have had in many a year. Tempura prawns was the other starter ordered and was just as good, not that either of us shared much with the others.The main meals where good too, clean plates for everyone.My wife chose the sticky toffee pudding. I was allowed a spoonful and that too was really nice.Lovely restaurant, beautiful food and with good service. Will certainly return, even if it is just for the pork bits.Thank you all.Thank you so much for your wonderful 5* review, we are so delighted you enjoyed your Sunday lunch with us.
