A traditional country pub featuring a wealth of beams and open fires with a simple, unspoilt front bar and cosy restaurant bar.Set in the historic village of Little Chart in the heart of the Kent countryside, we have a lovely riverside garden and offer de
The chill of an early Autumn evening saw us in search of a cosy pub in the countryside with good food, quite where and what pub remained uncertain. So it was that we approached a T-junction in Little Chart and spotted the beautiful Dering windows of the lovely building, and we just had to Swan Inn.A warm welcome on a chilly evening was exactly what we got, and we asked if a table was available for the two of us, in no time we were ushered through, holding our Estella and rhubarb gin, to table 14. We noted three gorgeous fireplaces that had âcome back in winterâ written all over them. Concentrating now on the extensive menu, and glancing at the meals of other diners arriving, we abandoned any thought of starters, knowing the main course would be more than enough for us.My wife had a fish pie served in an earthenware pot, and topped off with cheese and potato that bubbled gently, served with cauliflower, carrots, and peas. That she uttered not a word for at least fifteen minutes told me her food was delicious and much nicer than my company. My stuffed chicken breasts demanded my full attention, so the silence was welcome; as welcome as the succulent chicken and cheesy mash that I enjoyed with similar vegetables as my wife. At this stage, we generally break our pledge to stop eating upon arrival of the sweet menu; not so tonight as I eased my belt out a notch I knew polite rejection of the menu was necessary. Our bill, with tip, was £42. We couldnât fault the food, the bar and serving staff were lovely, the pub an architectural delight, and fireplaces and dessert menus guaranteeing we return soon!Wow!!! Iâm speechless Thank you so much ch for a fabulous review. We are very proud of our little historic pub and so pleased you enjoyed yourselves RegardsAnn

Located within the Mersham-le-Hatch business village in Kent, The Secret Garden is a relaxed and cosy country restaurant with views over a large Victorian walled garden. This restaurant is popular with locals, shoppers and weary motorists for leisurely lu
Came to pudding night in July and was fantastic booked again in September for partners birthday and what a totally different experience - no welcome cocktail just given a drinks list and asked straight away what we wanted to buy, the most miserable set of waiters and waitresses I've ever seen no interaction with anyone, one repeatedly walked into me after about the fifth time I moved so was sitting just at one end of the table, no introduction to desserts just a waitress mumbling what everything was so we had to keep asking her, no organisation of tables going to get dessert just a waiter randomly selecting tables to go up, no mention of what to do with the quiz, no help yourself to tea / coffee etc, we left straight after dinner as just felt we had gone for a really expensive meal and not part of any 'club'it was so different from our experience in July and had it done this one first I wouldn't have rebooted I've asked three times for someone to contact me about this but they are just reading my messages and not replying!

As regular local visitors we arrived at 17:45 (15 minutes before food being served apparently). We ordered drinks collected our own menus and went to sit in the restaurant.18:05 we positioned ourselves at a table awaiting someone to come and take our order. Nobody appeared so my wife went to the bar to order food and another drink. We wanted to order a starter but was told there wasnât any Brie wedges available so we ordered 2 mains. 18:55 we were bought our food, Missing cheese sauce which had been ordered, this turned up 5 minutes later with much of the meal already eaten. Although we were in the restaurant we had to go to the visit the bar to get ourselves drinks. Although short staffed the young Blonde waitress was doing as much as she could to keep up with the bar and food but it was not enough to keep everyone happy. The pregnant waitress disappeared out back for a rest. Very busy for mid week, great food as usual let down by not enough attentive staff.

A traditional Kentish pub serving good home cooked food, daily specials, fresh fish and local suppliers.
Came here after returning from Folkestone - we had randomly selected this village to stop off at, as we wanted a drink, plus a driving break, briefly. The outside beer garden is a rustic delight, and the staff were really friendly.Conversation with my work colleague, was, as usual, exhausting - he had heard how myself and three friends had survived a lightning strike a couple of weeks ago, that eyewitnesses said, was directly above us, and heading directly at us, which then split into fork lightning, hitting a Church and a clock tower, causing a huge fire. I suppose life is never dull.He had not been able to join us for lunch earlier, so he ordered Fish and Chips - which looked top quality, indeed, and he confirmed they were exceptionally good.He had a couple of Ales which he said were very good, whilst I stuck with some Cola. This really is a pleasant pub, with a good atmosphere, a warm welcome and relaxing beer garden.Iâd recommend it.

The Rose and Crown at Mundy Bois is your quintessential County pub in the middle of an idyllic part of Kent. The 17th Century building has seen some comings and goings over the years but is now in the safe hands of Dermot and Lisa Nally since November 201
Have been here three times in past few mo the with my wife and children. Always very friendly staff. Great choice of food including vegan options and kitchen has been happy to modify items to make them vegan... they have a beer festival, comedy night and music from time to time. Great place - search it out, support it!!!

A locally run cafe bistro specialising in good quality coffee, breakfast, lunch, and homemade cakes.
We booked a Christmas lunch for our PC on 15th December - we numbered 19 and the food was absolutely brilliant and turkey was plentiful and veggies weighed down the table. The whole meal was outstanding! The vegetarian option was raved about by those who required it and the puddings we to die for!

My partner and I in September were celebrating 7 years together and were on a short break down to Kent. We had heard of a great new restaurant, owned and run by the talented Chef Allister and his partner extraordinaire Alice, Hide and Fox. Saltwood and the surrounding areas are lucky to have such a relaxing and sophisticated restaurant. From the moment you walk in either Alice or her charming assistant Marina make you feel at home. Explaining any answer to a question you may have but also delighted to share with you their knowledge on wine, spirits or food. They were on hand for the perfect recommendation and offered genuine hospitality. Allister and his talented accomplice in the kitchen, Amy, cooked up a storm. Starting with the fabulous yet light dressed crab, balanced perfectly with the garnish carrying curry flavours and sweet mango. Duck liver parfait with toasted brioche was to follow. Heaven on a plate. The chicory salad on the side was a perfect accompiant to help cut through the parfait. The chicory salad brought back happy memories for my partner of growing up in Germany and visiting her Oma eating salads in the sun. Veal sweetbreads were the next indulgence. So smooth and tender, cooked perfectly so that they melted in your mouth. The turbot with leek fondue, girolle mushrooms, shallots and bacon foam was next to delight our mouth. The turbot was moist and cooked perfectly. perhaps the leek fondu was a reference to both Allister's and Alice's time spent in south west Wales, a lovely addition to the perfectly seasoned dish. We love Venison so when we saw this on the menu we thought that Christmas had come early. Beautifully cooked the earthy flavours of beetroot sat well alongside the deer. Added was a bit of smoked pork belly for a little more indulgence. Lovely cooking and really well balanced. After a brief break, time for dessert. Strawberries and tonka bean. I never use to be too sure on tonka beans, often over used as a "trendy" addition. However, in this dish you could actually taste the tonka bean and appreciate it. with a perfectly crisp sable biscuit, most certainly would have that dessert again. To finish the menu off, Banana parfait with caramelised banana and yoghurt sorbet. a perfect chocolate sphere comes out encasing a light and full of flavour banana parfait. A perfect way to finish a dinner and an all round great dessert. Overall, despite sounding like we may have needed a wheelbarrow to leave the restaurant, we felt perfectly happy and content rather than over-fed. I am sure, that if they made croquettes, they may well be some of the very best croquettes you could find. Top notch - 5/5 in the croquette guide!Dear Guide,We feel much pleasure in reading your outstanding review. We hope that other readers will take the time, as you definitely understand our passion and professionalism. We couldn't have described ourselves any better! We feel very privilege to have been rated 5/5 on your unique food guide. Please come and see us again when you're next in Kent. Our most humbled wishes,Alice and Allister
