Pub/Restaurant.
Had supper there this evening, specials board is extensive, and portions very generous. Proprietors friendly, welcoming and easy to chat with. Really good value for money. If this pub wasn't 20miles away it would certainly be our weekly local but even with that well worth the trip. This is a little hidden gem on the east of Scotland.

Went for lunch with big expectations - had duck with mash and the battered cod ( fish and chips ). 1 beer and one small bottle of coke Big shock at the bill - beer was £5.50 and coke £2.75 - ok it is a large hotel etc, but 2 small size battered cod fillets and 4 ( yes 4) chips with peas and supposed to be salad, but was only a little rocket. Duck came with mash and carrots. Quality was good, but felt price way too high - £12.95 for fish and £13.95 for duck. Real shame because would have definitely gone again.Sorry - don't normally write negative reviews, but feel a little let down. would have said something to staff, but didn't get the chance. How disappointing to read this. I seriously cannot believe that someone who reviews fish and chip shops compares us. We are a unique venue with exceptional views and history and i still 100% feel we are more than competetive with our pricing structure, even though our overheads are exceptional. However please enlighten me as to where you will get a gressingham duck breast with veg and house jus for less than £13.95? I say you got an absolute bargain. As for the Fish and chips, we split a whole fish fillet in half then cook, so the portion is a whole one, also our HANDCUT chips (we use the largest of red rooster potatoes, which produce chips bigger than JENGA bricks) we are told 4 is ample. Again try sourcing this dish for less, when you are getting the service and surroundings of such a beautiful historic building!!!!! Finally you will pay more in a chain pub in a city centre bar with no windows for a pint of peroni. I am sad you expected things to be a lot cheaper, try going to a chain restaurant who buy everthing in frozen, you will pay much more. Really really sickens me, trip advisor creating yet another wannabe foodie!!!

I am very surprised at all the 5 star reviews on here we found our suppers very disappointing... greasy, batter was raw inside. Chips did not taste freshly cooked. Quite pricey too. Portions were good but food not good enough to finish. Sorry! But we won't be back.
