My wife & I ate here a couple of Saturdays ago...heard so many good comments about this place...but we were not impressed. We arrived early for evening meal (to avoid the crowds of diners), and it still took an extraordinarily long time to be seated. We had at least 3 waitresses come & tell us "it will be just a few more minutes"...and then nothing. Finally, after about 15 minutes or so of standing at the "please wait to be seated" sign, we were escorted to a table far away in the back dining area (by the restrooms). We were seated, and drink orders taked, but no menus. Oddly, there were 4 or 5 waitresses up around the cashier's stand arguing about who was to take which table...who's in charge here? Still do not know what the problem was, but after all the waitstaff grumbling, we eventually had menus delivered to us.When we finally were able to place our order, we were promptly told "NO RIBS TONIGHT." My wife was really hoping to try the ribs (on recommendation of some friends), so she ended up ordering the 2 meat BBQ dinner--- with sliced brisket & links (sausage). I ordered the chicken fried steak dinner (again, by recommendation of friends), & then began our wait. In the meantime, a coupe of folks at tables next to us received their orders, and, of course, they had RIBS on their plate. Another table near us who ordered AFTER us placed an order for DOUBLE ribs, & their server said nothing about the "no ribs tonight" directive we had received from our waitress. We eventually received our order, and when the waitress brought our plates, I asked her why ribs were being ordered & served all around us, but we were not able to place a rib order. She said she wasn't sure, but there were definitely no ribs left...they were completely out. (Still didn't explain why ribs were CONTINUALLY being served all around us...). And, yes, you guessed it...the man who ordered the double ribs (after us) got his order! Hmm...The sliced brisket was o.k...tender, but not much flavor. The links were just Eckrich-style sausage that were warmed up in the oven...hadn't been near the smoker or grill. Baked beans were straight out of the can, and their BB sauce tasted similar to the grocery store bottled stuff. My CFS was double battered, but the batter was like concrete...and hadn't been seasoned at all (no salt/pepper). The outside was so hard, I had trouble getting to the meat inside. The white gravy tasted like the wheat-paste used to decoupage (like in 6th grade art class). Again, no seasoning in the gravy...no salt, no pepper, nothing. I ordered cole slaw, and it was pretty much just raw cabbage with a little buttermilk splashed onto it.A couple of patrons who had ordered long before we did were still wating on their order when ours came, and tempers were flaring because of the delays. One table received their drink order, but the waitress never came back to take their dinner order, so they finally got tired of waiting & left the restaurant. We had originally thought about ordering some "homeade" desserts (possibly to go), but after our rather dismal meal, we decided to skip it. Our ticket came to almost $50.00, but was definitely not worth it...we could have had a much better meal at 1/3 the price at one of the fast-food joints in town. We will not be returning to dine at Florida's Kitchen again, and it's too bad Florida was not in the kitchen that night...she would have been humiliated. I sincerely hope this was a one-night mishap/disaster, because if this continues, Florida's Kitchen will not be in business much longer...

Looks more like a garage sale in progress than an eatery, but don't let that fool you. The baked beans are perhaps the best I have ever had. Potato salad is good. Brisket is also very good as is the sauce. Only thing the place needs is beer.
Dickey's is located on US-59 / I-69 about 20 minutes north of Livingston in the small community of Seven Oaks. It shares a building with a gas station. This is a chain restaurant, where pre-prepared food is warmed and served by friendly staff. I did watch them fry the okra upon ordering, so nothing sits under a heat-lamp except maybe the meat. Meat isn't smoked on site, but is good -- I especially liked the spicy cheese sausage. The pulled pork was very tender too. They have three big pots of different types of barbecue sauce -- sweet, spicy and original -- all kept warm and ready for you to ladle on your meat. All and all not a bad place considering you're in the middle of nowhere. I certainly will stop there again on my way through town.
