Cajun Shotgun House and BBQ

I placed a pickup order for the Combination Plate, which came with chicken, sausage, ribs, pulled pork and two sides (baked beans and potato salad). The potato salad was really good and beans okay (would definitely eat them both again). However, they were a bit stingy with the baked beans. I had about 4 tablespoons of it lol. The sausage was good and plentiful and the chicken was well-cooked with decent flavor. The ribs were ehhhh, I’m thinking they were cooked the previous day and reheated. If they were fresh, they probably would have been great. The biggest letdown of the meal was the pulled pork. It looked like someone had chewed the pork and spit it on the plate. It didn’t taste like it was done in-house, but instead like a purchased, frozen pulled pork product that was heated and then reheated several times…the worst ever! This is definitely not the place for ribs or pulled pork.

This restaurant recently opened in December of 2016. It's located about half mile from the mall. I was surprised at how delicious the BBQ sandwich was that I ordered. The bbq sauce has a sweet smoked taste to it, which I like. The service was great. They waited on me as soon as I walked in. In fact, about 4 workers behind the counter helped me. Now, how cool is that. Their baked beans were great too. Their dining room inside is nice too with lots of chairs and tables to sit at.

I was staying at the Holiday Inn Express opposite Virgils and was very hungry and in no hurry to go into town, so I popped into Virgils to grab some takeaway food. Finished up getting a combo plate. The lady serving was very friendly and efficient. I received two parcels of food going by the weight of them I began wondering if I had ordered too much. When I got back to my room my suspicions were confirmed as there was enough food to easily feed two. The chicken and rib tips were cooked to perfection and the sauces, potato salad and beans were all delicious. I am now feeling rather smug that I did not go into town to find a restaurant. I would recommend Virgils to anyone
