Since recently moving to Clive, the Granite City Brewery has become my favorite go-to neighborhood restaurant. Iâm even willing to overlook the one meal there that I absolutely hated. Itâs a casual, friendly brew pub located at a busy intersection. Nothing quaint or chic about it. An extensive menu with a good selection of local brews. I particularly like âThe Duke.â From the menu, I can recommend the Ponzu Salmon, the meatloaf and the Chicken Limon. I also like the flatbreads. As for that one meal I hated? Donât order the chicken âwrap!!â I expected a wrap sandwich, right? No, itâs a platter of ingredients that you eat by dipping lettuce with your fingers. Not what I wanted for a business lunch. Plus, they were out of The Duke that day so it was a big miss for me.
How do ya screw up a club sandwich? Somehow I got served one with exactly zero flavor. Bacon, turkey, ham....nothing. So I try the fries and? Nothing. My drink was even bland. Takes a special kind of skill.

We frequently stop into Rookies to watch football, drink beer and eat bar fare. Last Saturday we were at Rookies and the beer was flat, the service was horrible and the food was meh. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it was made with dark chicken meat, which was wierd. I like dark chicken meat but did not like it at all in a quesadilla. Needless to say, I won't order that again. Agree with other comments that food, beverage and service here is inconsistent.... sometimes good and other times, not so much. Great place to watch football though!CARCOR2014, Thanks for the feedback. My name is Curt Gomes, I purchased Rookies 2 1/2 years ago and have been working to change the culture and perception. I'm sorry to hear that you had a subpar experience while visiting. In regards to the Beer being flat I can certainly talk with our vendors but our lines are cleaned weekly and all beer is rotated out fairly quickly, but I will certainly check our lines. As for the chicken, all of our chicken comes from the chicken breast. We do make a blackened chicken that may appear as if itâs dark meat but itâs 100% chicken breast. One of the things I have worked hard to accomplish is to purchase better products from our food vendors, this is one area we donât cut cost.Iâm 100% with you on the inconsistent part. We continue to try to hire the most qualified candidates and fully staff our restaurant each day. My wife and I frequently take shifts to assist with this but at times we have fallen short of expectations.I hope you come join us again for a meal, we appreciate the feedback and look forward to continuing to get better.Sincerely Curt Gomes

A friend and I were meeting up and were having a couple appetizers with our conversation. The server interrupted us several times to impatiently taking our order, so we just decided to order after the 4th visit in a short period of time. Following that, was are you finished and here is your check. Oh, can I take that now? The food was fine, and I understand the server wants to make as much money as possible. When the patron lottery yields a small tab, such is life. If one is treated well, one may return at a later date for a complete meal. That is unlikely to occur in this instance. Thanks for taking the time to share this feedback on your visit. Rest assured we know a good time can't be rushed, and I've touched base with our team about your review to ensure we're always putting our best foot forward. We'd love another opportunity to show you the outstanding service we're known for in the future. All the best,Dave, Owner

This is a very nice sports bar in suburban Waukee just west of Des Moines. They have a nice selection of craft beers and other beers, and have a "juicer" to make fresh-squeezed Scewdrivers and grapefruit-based cocktails. We especially enjoy their indoor-outdoor bar area.Their food is average for a sports bar, and we actually go there more to drink than to eat. The Draught House also has numerous big screen TV's, so it's conducive to watching a sporting event. And, I believe they have drink "specials" during Chicago Cubs games.

Visited this location last week for dinner. Sat at the bar where they have an excellent selection of local and other tap beers while we waited for a table to eat. The staff from the hostess, bartenders and wait staff were all friendly and attentive. This followed up with some very tasty food. Lots of selections that all looked great.

Visited this restaurant for the first time with a friend after work. We planned on getting to the restaurant at 5:00 pm to take advantage of Happy Hour. My friend got to the restaurant before me and was seated at 5:05 pm. The waitress, Kristin, advised my friend that she could not give her the discount because the system would not allow her because it was 5 minutes past 5:00 pm. Kristin didn't offer to speak with her boss to complete an override so that she could get a drink at a cheaper price. Both of us had to pay full price for drinks and their Moscow Mules are $10.00 each. Central Standard has a large mark up on alcohol beverages and I have had other Moscow Mules for $8.00 each, and that not being part of a Happy Hour. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip which was good. The spinach and artichoke dip was in a medium dish which was placed on a pizza pan with several different vegetables and chips and bread to dip into the spinach and artichoke dip. I ordered the Three Cheese Macaroni & Cheese food and wasn't to impressed with the overall taste. The food was a little dry tasting. My friend ordered a taco dish but wasn't able to finish the food but asked the waitress for a box to take it home. The waitress came out and placed the box right on top of her food, not on the table. Kristin need to learn how to treat her customers. I will not be returning to this restaurant even though the spinach and artichoke dip was good and the décor was nice in the restaurant. My friends husband called the GM of the restaurant that specific night after we visited the place and the GM stated that Kristin could have asked the GM to complete an override to get the Happy Hour price. If you get there a couple minutes late and your waiter or waitress argues with you, complain to the GM that is on duty as this place has over priced drinks and it would not kill them to give you a couple cheap drinks.

There is nothing extraordinary about this property except, possibly, the slipperiness of the inside floors. They were kind of scary, actually. Our server was great, and attentive, but the food was mediocre. My omelet was dry, a burger was overcooked, etc. Probably won't return.

Unfortunately, this place is going downhill. We live close by and have been here at least 10 times over the past year. There is definitely a noise issue, everything echoes and itâs very hard to hear or talk in there. Also, the seating area is strange where itâs either extremely tall high tops or very low to the ground seating. The dining room is separated by a wall with more odd seating on the other side by the bathrooms. We continued to go due to the service and food. However, the last 3 times we have been here, both have been horrible. And our most recent visit, we had to wait forever to be at knowledged at the table. We were seated right away, but after that we waited a very long time for waters, menus, ordering. It was not that busy and we waited almost 15 minutes for a drink. The food came and the chicken was way overcooked & my husbandâs chicken sandwich was also overcooked. We eventually had to go up to the bar and ask for our check. We had been sitting an awful long time with no one clearing our plates, checking on our meal or asking if we wanted anything else. It was annoying because there were three or four employees constantly chatting by the bar. There was a high school age girl in the kitchen with really long hair that was not in a net. To make matters worse, she kept touching her hat with her gloves & then touching food.

I've been meeting my son after work here on occasion; it's close to both our workplaces, and it's a perfect place to unwind, visit, and just catch-up. We love it, and in addition to your traditional "Irish Pub" food and beverages, there are free peanuts like the old Ground Rounds use to have. Lately I've seen ladies groups meeting in there, and tons of 'regulars' that most staffers know by name. In fact, what I enjoy most is the staff doing their best to learn your name and menu preferences -- to make it personal, relaxed and comfortable. Our last waitress wanted to know what podcasts we were listening too -- she was great! It just has a cool vibe -- great "neighborhood hangout."
