Recommended and owned by the owners of the lovely Gideon Ridge Inn in Blowing Rock, this could not be farther from what we expected when we went for dinner. We were thinking rustic, casual. Parking was almost impossible to start with. Noisy, crowded. A busy bar and a restaurant large and equally busy. But we got a table and our server was delightful. We got our bottle of wine and first course. Very good, but then we asked for extra bread for our mussels and it took half an hour. Our main course seemed as though it would never arrive, so we did something we have never done before. We got up and decided to leave. The surly manager gave us a bill that was discounted, but did not take off our main courses, only 50% off. We disputed that and won. They gave some kind of excuse, but later, at Gideon Ridge where we were staying, we heard that this experience was not uncommon. A shame and shame on the Gideon Ridge owners! Hope they can change this, because the food and bar (probably attracting mostly locals) was good.

The High Country's Premier Steak and Seafood Restaurant for over 30 years. Featuring an award wining wine list, regional beers and craft cocktails. Indoor and covered outdoor seating available. Private room available for events.
I'll have to say that we enjoyed our dining here a lot. The atmosphere is nice and despite what we had read, the vast majority of people were dressed quite casually. It didn't feel like an upscale, up Market restaurant that we were out of class in. Our server, Heather, really made the meal exceptional. She was friendly, very professional, made recommendations when asked and make sure that the meal flowed perfectly. Each course from the James River oysters to the roasted beetroot and feta salad, to the prime rib was presented well, had great blendings of flavors, and the right proportion. We ended the meal with a sweet potato pie - a nightly special that was a creation of the chef. Really liked it as it was not overly sweet and not overly heavy, but the perfect ending to the meal.Thank you for your recent visit and your kind words. We look forward to serving you again in the near future.

Went here on a recommendation. How often do you go to a pool hall to eat? Anyway we had the special today which was a Cubango sandwich. Blackened chicken, peppercorn bacon, onions, melted cheese on Ciambetta bread. We ordered the Sweet potato waffle fries. Very good overall if you are not into ambiance.

Excellent place for lunch with fresh and yummy burgers and some good vegetarian options. We enjoyed sitting on the back deck which is dog friendly. Mckinsie, our server, was friendly and professional. The Bloody Mary was good but needed a veggie garnish.Use caution in the hillside parking lot.

First night in the area and wanted to try a local joint. Only about a 30 min wait on a Saturday night for a patio table. Waited 10-15 min before we were greeted by our server. Brought waters timely but due to the long wait for him to get to us we ordered our drinks and food at the same time. The manager brought the drinks which had been sitting at the bar, beer was warm and my wifeâs drink had zero ice because it melted. I had the salmon dish which was a great one. Cooked just right and the veggies were sautéed well. Daughter had the shrimp tacos âthey were okay but I wouldnât suggest themâ she indicated they were dry and only came with black beans. My wife wasnât real hunger and ordered an app pick two with hummus and spinach artichoke dip. The dip was okay and the hummus was tasteless. Not an overall good food result and the server was worse then the food. It did look as if there were good servers working that took good care of their tables but we pulled the short straw and got a very poor one. The patio was comfortable and environment solid but we wonât be going back.

Was not happy with our visit. Waitress told us one thing and the complete opposite happened, ruining our ability to sit and enjoy our meal. Wife ordered chicken salad sandwich but it was not edible due to the large amount of grisle in it. Also, the portion was very small and not seasoned. As far as my meal and my daughters order, they were fine.I will not go back to this establishment. Maybe will try out their other one in the Charlotte area and actually order their pizza.
