A lovely inn 6 miles from Bristol's City Centre and Bristol Airport. Freshly prepared dishes, great beers and a good selection of wine. 7 individually designed en suite bedrooms all named after a different famous George. Private dining and functions cater
Really wish I had read some recent reviews before we ate here again, but always been so good. Firstly I will say, great ambience & staff !!!! But the menu was so disappointing, kept turning it over to see where the âusual menuâ was.....sadly no more. No specials on either. Our chosen meals were 1. deep friend 2. boiled, nothing seemed freshly made, certainly not the side slaw! sorry canât be kinder. The prices were also OTT for basic pub food, even in the lovely surroundings. I am just so disappointed â¹ï¸Dear MorganLL - We have recently carried out an urgent review of our dish preparation and presentation. We are determined to make sure we offer good value, high quality and freshly prepared dishes and are supporting our Kitchen Team to make sure this happens. I am grateful for your feedback which will be shared with the whole team. Regards, Sam Roffe, The George at Backwell.

The main reason why we come here because of good reviews. So I have ordered fish and chips <£17 really looking forward to have this! Thought the most expensive meal it must be their signature! And I was wrong, there was plenty of things that were wrong with this simple meal.Lemon - it should be wedge- it's easier to squeeze! My fish was cooked lovely and it was nice piece of fish but you soiled by serving me with soggy bottom batter! Lastly chips! Cooked but rushed, or overlooked or I don't know cheap stuff. Those chips were NOT NICE!If you charging customers for piece of fish and chips almost 17£ ensure you serve the meal with the best quality ingredients! My friend fishcakes were lovely, good effort but again chips were awful! Not sure will be back. To add to that pub was not even busy. We come there on Saturday early afternoon and still waited for food over 40 minutes.

Have driven passed many times and looked busy so decided to give it a try. No tables available so told to go to bar. Not a problem good selection of drinks and reasonably priced. After about 10 minutes called to table. Table was dirty, sticky with remnants of last persons meal on. Cleaned table best we could with napkins as no staff around. We ordered a standard and large carvery. Queue was short and service efficient and friendly. Turkey was fine, beef very fatty, over cooked and cut very thinly. Carrots were not cooked enough very hard had to leave them. Potatoes were ok, parsnips burnt on the bottom, broccoli cheese was ok and gravy just tepid. As it was a very cheap Sunday dinner it was okay for what you got. Not sure I would return. Hi Abi21bris, I really appreciate your honest feedback, and it will definitely be taken on board. I'm sorry for the experience you've had, and I hope you'll give us another try as this is not our usual standard.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights and it is one of the friendliest pubs I have stayed in. All the staff we met were delightful, especially Russell. The food was tasty and the room was very comfortable. We will definitely stay there again

I overstayed my time in Cheddar Gorge and had a bit of a wait for a taxi. I ate dinner at The White Hart and was pleased with service, food, and value. There are vegetarian and vegan options and outdoor seating. The staff recommended a good ale to match my dinner selection and the atmosphere was friendly. The wine, beer, and ale selection was surprisingly robust. They accepted credit cards (though I paid cash) and, shockingly, had free WiFi! (The service was a bit slow, but we were in a gorge, after all.) The food was exceptional (I had a fish and chips styled entree). I highly recommend looking over the specials. Had I done so prior to ordering, I would have tried something more extravagant. I also had a pudding which was delicious as well. The staff was kind and service cheerful. Should I ever find myself in Cheddar again, I will make a point of revisiting The White Hart.

First of all canât deny that everything we were served was home cooked and very tasty. Both the beef and turkey were succulent and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. The set up is a little odd though and not a carvery as such. Meat is carved and given to you with Yorkshire and stuffing. The veg and gravy is then served to your table and as first time visitors we didnât realise you could ask for more. One dish of cabbage and cauliflower cheese between 5 is not enough the other veg carrots, broccoli and parsnips was ample. We asked for more gravy and made do with the veg. The table next to us started a little later and between six they asked for at least 3 dishes of each which they were served. Lovely waitress did ask if we wanted more but we had finished what we had so was a little late. If you go just donât hesitate to ask for more I guess is the message. If the carvery was extended to include help yourself veg this would be a five star review. For now 3.5 out of 5 but definitely delicious food. Next time I wonât be shy to ask for more!!!Hi, thank you for your review. I'm sorry for the confusion over the vegetables, we normally tell our guests to just ask if they would like more vegetables, so please don't be put off from coming again. We have now reverted back to help yourself to vegetables to see how it goes. (the bringing vegetables to the table was a trial to see if we could reduce the amount of vegetables being piled on plates and not being eaten - some Sundays we were getting massive amounts of wastage)!

Nicely decorated pub with lovely wood burner and the female staff were switched on, interested and professional ... but the food let it down. The vegetable lasagne with Mediterranean veg had 2 tiny cubes of courgette in the whole meal ... I expected slabs of aubergine, courgette, tomato (theyâre cheap enough!) but it was a stodgy cold mess (we had to send it back when it was delivered because it was cold in the middle ....). Pretty sure a decent chef would not have served it cold straight out of the microwave without even grilling the cheese on the top! A spoonful of bagged salad leaves was added and some bread with garlicky butter on it. Not expensive at £11.95 but for the same price could have been SO much better!

The Plough is a gorgeous village pub with a reputation as the best place to relax, eat and enjoy yourself in the area. It has a classic country feel, whilst being very up to date in terms of its superb country food and second-to-none service and atmospher
Pre-ordered for 16 on a Saturday afternoon for my 70th birthday celebration. Our party included 2 granddaughters and a third requiring a high chair. Very friendly welcome by Bridie and her front of house colleagues and fantastic food courtesy of Aaron Tolmie and his team in the kitchen. Portions were generous and very well presented and the atmosphere so relaxed. Blessed by the weather we could play boules between courses and afterwards.Thank you to all concerned for another great meal and keep up the good work.
