We were in town to see a show and stopped in for a couple of drinks and a snack at the bar. Their tap list is fantastic most of them from NY. The Bavarian pretzels were very good and was a perfect fit for a couple of beers. The staff was very friendly. We will definitely return when in Poughkeepsie.

Billy Bob's BBQ

While on an 8 day motorcycle trip from Baltimore to Maine and back we spent the night in Poughkeepsie. I had read good reviews about Billy Bob's and it was a short walking distance from the hotel. Nice looking place, clean and the décor is good. They seated the 7 people in or party and it was time to dine. There were a wide variety of items ordered and everyone seemed pleased with them. I had the smoked half chicken and it was done well and tasted good. The problem we had was 2 things, the service and the dining room acoustics. The service was very slow. It took us 2 hours to have our meal. It should never take 2 hours for BBQ, it's all been smoked for several hours and basically should just be plated. I have NEVER had a BBQ meal go that long. Also the meals didn't come all out at once, some here and then some there. It's rude and inconsiderate to have people waiting at a table and there food is getting cold while they are waiting for the rest to be served. Also the waitress kept reaching over peoples plates, big no-no. My side salad came out and then my entrée 2 minutes later while everyone else was still waiting. Ordered dessert (mistake) and it took them 20 minutes to put a piece of pie on a plate. Now the acoustics...sound just bounces all over the place in the dining room. All hard surfaces with a high ceiling. It got go bad that one person in our group had to cover her ears for a bit because the of the sound volume and the sound bouncing all over the place. You need yo put in a couple of sound dampeners. Fix the service and fix the acoustics and you'll have a winner.

Situated across from the train station this building dates from about 1840 was originally a brewery owned by a Mr. Vassar who gave money to the formerly school for ladies nearby. Now it is a restaurant. Ground level caters to the pizza set...take-out but a couple of tables to eat in. Lots of choices. Looked great as we entered. Upstairs is a most comfortable dining room with high ceilings. The food is amazing. Yes, try the daily specials but also check out the menu for pasta with Sunday gravy...an assortments of meats. I liked the lobster ravioli. Joey talked about his experiences and that of the evolution of his restaurant. He treated to "Italian Tacos" a sweet. We ate for 2 days and shared with staff at our hotel. Thank you.

This is a place I've passed by many times. Despite recommendations from friends, it was always the wrong time to stop or too close to closing to check out. After stopping finally with family, I realized I had been missing out on this off-the-beaten-track gem. The menu is basically meat, potatoes and seafood. Very ample salads are also offered (with or without meat). Some of the appetizers can be made into a meal if you're not that hungry. The portion size is very generous and most people will be bringing home leftovers! This location is just minutes off the Taconic Parkway, but keep in mind The Fireside closes most nights at 9:00.

A pleasant atmosphere. We enjoyed our corn chowder immensely. Not so impressed by the garlic bread "tower" - just pieces of bread...Pasta needed to be more al dente and dessert selection was disappointing. We took a miss. Still, scallops were great as was salad.Thank you so much for taking the time to review your recent visit to Shadows on the Hudson. I’ve learned not to expect much in the way of food at pubs and breweries, but Blue Collar Brewery was a nice surprise. Good beer and good burgers—I can’t ask for more. Service was reasonably good even though our server was alone and taking care of at least six tables and wearing the hostess hat. They offer parking which is a nice perk.

Stopped in for a relaxed lunch and we were not disappointed. Bartender has a good hand and the menu has enough choices for a variety of tastes. Started with the steamed clams - choice of ale or wine preparation. We had the wings, (about 8 preparation choices), and the chicken salad. Our server, Therese, was very attentive and the food preparation and presentation was excellent. Also, good Tuesday afternoon crowd for the outdoor patio. Worth a try.

I really wish I could give them a better review but I can’t. I have gone twice and the food just couldn’t cut it. My last visit I order a burger medium well not a hard item to cook. Well they screwed it up again, the burger started out medium to medium rare then I got to the center and it was rare !!!So either one of two things the cook has no clue on how to make a burger or use a thermometer or it was frozen when it was put on the grill. The beer was ok nothing spectacular, with the amount of micro breweries an breweries you should be on your A game and your not even in the major leagues !!Sorry I won’t be trying your establishment again

When I see a brew pub, I typically assume that the food will be passable pub fare. Burgers, fries, a token salad or two. This place shattered my expectations! The menu was ecclectic, yet balanced. Truffle arancini. Charcuterie. Burgers and salads that sounded creative and appetizing. Unlike many restaurants that try to be original, but instead cram too much into a dish, the creativity here was perfect. If you want a chicken sandwich, you don't have to say "hold the avocado, radishes, and kiwi/porcinini mushroom aeoli please." Instead, everything sounded harmonious, yet, fresh and original. The pork schnitzel deserves its own paragraph. Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside. Amazing mustard-crea-au jus sauce, but not smothered in it. Mustard spaetzel that has ruined me for all other spaetzel. And red cabbage that was so delicious it could have been a dish all its own!I live about an hour and 20 min from this place, and I'm already thinking of when I can return!Oh, and the beer was excellent, too!

Tried it again since it’s a local place and we we will be in the area often. This time we went for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised. Still, my daughter had chicken fingers and they were just ok...too many fries, not enough chicken, would love some healthy kids options. All of that said, I had a roasted salad with salmon and it was delicious.... cooked perfectly, flavored well and a healthy portion with no wasted food. Our friend had chili and she said it was delicious and my husband enjoyed his sandwich. We will go back, this time with an expectation of good food.Maybe a veggie burger in the menu would be a good addition.
