This is my second trip to Nederland in 4 years. There is great hiking and accommodations in this area. This is also my second trip to Crosscut. The pizzas here are not like pizzas anywhere else. The atmosphere and straightforward friendly service coupled with great pizza and a very nice broad tap selection makes it a Colorado favorite of mine.

Oh my, the French fries are fresh and crisp! If you do not drink, the place doesn’t have the best atmosphere - I do not drink. Anyway my husband’s chicken fried steak with sides of roasted red potatoes and a veggie of the day was very much to his liking and my buffalo burger with the grilled bun was a big hit. The man next to us said his fried catfish was delicious! Great food here but don’t expect family atmosphere. By the way, an older guy (“Jamestown”) was our server and he was fast, friendly and efficient. I would DEFINITELY come here again and ask for the same server.

Stage Stop

The hubs and I took a chance on Stage Stop while out hiking today. The hostess was kind and welcoming. Our server was attentive and polite. The menu was promising. There were actual options created by someone with culinary skill. I don't eat burgers often and had my mind made up pretty much before I sat down that I wanted one despite the other tempting choices. And since it was lunch, I didn't feel like going the full plated dinner route. The hubs wanted a Reuben. We order and everything seems fine aside from the occasional song lyric being belted out by the cook. It could have been humorous or perhaps a bit endearing had she not also proceeded to shout expletives at her coworkers and loudly express extreme disdain for our menu choices. She literally said to the server "You know what's good on the menu? Anything besides burgers!" I had asked for a small diet accommodation, a bunless burger, and while my food was being prepared she was heard to say "I don't care. Make it as messy as you want. Don't do anything special with it." Our food arrived and it looked promising. However, my medium rare burger was raw. And I do not mean rare, I mean bleu. It was cold in the middle. I ate what I could and fed the rest to my dogs. I wasn't going to send it back for fear of what would happen to it. While we were eating, Heather, the cook, could be heard loudly discussing a food poisoning case with a coworker, complete with vomit and diarrhea talk. LOVELY! I told our server upon paying that perhaps the cook was unaware that we could hear everything she said but 80% of it was rude, crude, or disgusting. And it was completely inappropriate. This poor dear just shrunk and apologized on behalf of this cretin saying that she, Heather, the cook just doesn't care. And she suggested we try coming back another time in the evening as she works mornings. There's no cook in the world worth this kind of poor business practice and horrible customer experience. Not even Gordon Ramsey would have behaved like that. It was unconscionable. This place has amazing potential but that piece of work in the kitchen needs to go.
