Stopped into the Shuckin' Shack for a late lunch returning from Carolina Beach. We picked one of two tables on the sidewalk. Our server was there to take our drink order quickly. We ordered our food and it was served as ordered. Everything ordered looked very good. Raw Oysters, Steamed Shrimp, a Crab Cake Sandwich, and Fried Shrimp and Oysters. We all thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes fresh Oysters and Shrimp. There were vegetarian items on the menu.

I'm staying in a local hotel in Wilmington, and got done with a really long day of work, for the Visit NC conference in town. Ordered Door Dash from this restaurant, and spent a significant amount of money might I add. I came back to the computer after 30 minutes after I had ordered the food, only to find out that the restaurant had cancelled my order. I have no idea why, but being that I'm hungry, and I had waited some time for the order before realizing this, I'm super irritated with the service, and I would go ahead an say skip ordering Door dash from this establishment. Thanks for making me scramble to find something to eat late at night now. I'll probably end up getting something lousy because of this.

Elijah's Restaurant

We went to Elijah's this past Friday evening with another couple...as we each heard great things about the restaurant and we wanted to try it.The location is directly off the water...and has an excellent location with great views...the building is a very old, and very charming, older type building with many features you normally do not see today...just very charming, simple and yet elegant. We could not make a reservation as they require a party of 8 or more for reservations however we were told not to worry...it is a slower time of the year. When we arrived...we were very surprised the restaurant was almost empty...there was only one other table of 8 and a table of 2 in this large restaurant and one table of 2 on the outside patio...on a Friday evening! It was October...not the dead of winter.Either way, we got a nice table by the window. Our serve was Caitlin and she was extremely friendly and very attentive.I ordered the Red Chowder as a soup (exceptional) and one member of our party ordered the salad (nice salad) and the two others including my wife ordered the Elijah Chowder...all excellent. We then ordered our dinners.I ordered the Special...Pork Chop with Bone In. The server did a great job explaining the dish and its preparation however it was no-where as great as she claimed. The meat was tender yet the taste was lacking and the serving side was OK...lets put it this way...no leftovers. I have been to upscale restaurant before...and every time Bone In Pork Chops are usually much larger...and much...much tastier. The rice and vegetables were excellent. If we come back...and if it is available again...I would not order it.My wife ordered the Snapper...and truly enjoyed it. She said it was cooker perfectly but again...not anything special with taste. The couple we were with...The husband ordered the Prime Rib (KING) as the server raved about it. First, the KING size is only 10 oz and the Queen size is 8 oz...that is small compared to most upscale restaurants. When dinner arrived and I saw the size of the portion...i was extremely surprised (did not say anything)...and it did not look overly appetizing! As he cut it...he was extremely unhappy...lots of gristle and fat. The waitress was quick to offer alternatives...which he took her up on. Our friends do not complain however the Prime Rib looked so bad he had to get something different. He did get the Pasta with Scallops and Scrimp and although he did not say...I think he was much happier (even though he was eating while the three of us were already finished with our dinner/no fault of his). His wife ordered the scrimp with scallops however since she does not eat scallops, when she ordered the server was happy to replace the scallops with additional scrimp. The scrimp were average size...not large but average. Her dinner was very good yet she did not say anything exceptional about her dinner. The restaurant was almost empty (just as we were leaving another table of 2 came in) and it was very cold inside. We requested the raise the thermostat three times earlier..as we were freezing...finally as we were about 20 minutes from leaving (finishing up) it started to warm up.We were expecting so much more...not sure if it was an "off" night for the kitchen however the food was average...and that may explain, if this occurs often where there was a limited number of customers. Many reviews were excellent so just not sure if the kitchen is inconsistent or just a bad night. Not sure yet if we will give it another try...as there are so many other places in the area...yet I do want to say...about 6 months ago (just before we moved into the area) we did dine at their sister restaurant (The Pilot House) and it was much better.

Stopped in for pizza based on recent reviews and was disappointed. Pizza was just average. The pizza menu was quite large but we ordered a large plain cheese pizza, our favorite. The crust was thin, but brushed with a garlic oil and not tasty. The sauce was not fresh at all, tasted like a can sauce and was way too thick. Cheese was fine.We tasted other local pizza in Wilmington and know that this style is not the norm. The location is more of a pub gathering spot then restaurant.

Wasn't sure about this place looking from the outside, but my advice is open the door! Very comfortable and welcoming inside. Waitress was attentive, and efficient. We visited for lunch, and had a combination of sandwiches and ribs. Everything was very good. the restaurant also validates parking at the cotton exchange car park which is an added bonus. Very good

Staying in Wilmington for a few days and surprised by the large number of Mexican restaurants so decided to try Beer Barrio, very good fresh quality Mexican food. The restaurant gets crowded with the young locals and we managed to get a table for the 2 of us.The restaurant provides a free serving of fresh hot tortilla chips and a smooth (not chunky) salsa with each entree. Chips were very good and salsa was not too spicy.I ordered the Pressed Burrito stuffed with Cheddar Jack cheese, smoky black beans, pico de gallo and served with sour cream and guacamole. Excellent dish, fresh and heated slightly. Partner ordered the Quesadillas served with melted Cheddar Jack cheese between 2 flour tortillas with tostada crisp, lettuce, pico de gallo and loved them. Food is so fresh.Service was fine and pricing was quite low considering the local in downtown Wilmington, NC. Nice surprise.

We stopped in before a visit to the theater. Wait was 30 min, but had 2 seats open up at the bar in 20. The staff was running hard but were always friendly and attentive. Then came the food! Everything was delicious and came out timely, but not too fast as to be on top of the course before it! It was a noisy, busy, fun place with great food and a casual atmosphere! We’ll definitely go back!!
