Recommended to us by the owner of a holiday cottage nearby, the recommendation was worth it for the quality of the steak I enjoyed, along with the chips and the accompaniments. Not the biggest range of food on the menu, and if my wife was writing the review she might have given 4* as the lasagna was not to her taste (plenty of mince, but only one layer of pasta, and to her taste a rather thick coating of cheese on top). Portions quite large. Would have liked a "lighter" option for desserts, the three on offer on the day we ate were quite stodgy so we settled for just coffees. Booked a table as it was a Saturday but it wasn't overly busy (in June but before the Glastonbury festival) and our reserved table (along with several others) was in the bar area near the kitchen rather than the restaurant area. Never-the-less quite pleasant surroundings. Service was unhurried - occasionally difficult to get the waitress' attention.

Family celebration, 7 of us. We were served by very friendly attentive staff, the food was great tasty and plentiful.Between us we enjoyed, steaks, chicken & tarragon burger, beef & mushroom pies, Cornish hake & crab fishcake, followed by desserts of various ice cream, sorbet. Tried local cider from Harryâs which really hit the spot!In the Ilminster, Langport area of Somerset the Lion & The Lamb is worth a visit! But would recommend that book, it was very busy when we went!

There is an extensive menu both on the regular menu and the specials board. The portions are generous and very quick service. There is also a good choice of excellent local ales on the bar.

We visited for a Sunday Lunch which seems to be their signatory day/meal. The place was relatively small, but very clean and the welcome was superb. The Sunday Lunch menu was small, which made ordering very easy. The food was excellent, the portions superb and the service beyond reproach. It was excellent value for money and all the staff we met were helpful, polite and very competent. We will certainly visit again.

Four friends came for lunch. Coincidentally we all chose different dishes. Waitress and bar staff, helpful and knowledgeable. Relaxing atmosphere food served in reasonable time. All four mains were, perfectly cooked and well presented.Restaurant was not crowded, so for those who like more tranquility I would recommend lunch.Quality good: Prices reasonable. Loved it!

On our recent trip to St Ives we decided to break up our journey and stayed at the Devonshire arms . What a fantastic establishment with fantastic food, excellent drink choices and friendly service. This I believe is a family run establishment and it shows , with its level of service. Weâll definitely visit again and would recommend it to anyone, in that part of Britain

We are a country pub that serves a great range of real ales and cooks country style home made mains and desserts. We are a pub that serves food. We serve at lunch 12 til 230 and evenings 1900 til 2130.
Wow, what a find! Fabulous old fashioned, small no frills proper spit n sawdust type of pub. Very rustic. Like stepping back in time, in a good way. Called in on a drizzly Friday lunchtime and took the last table which surprised us as it is a bit middle of nowhere but obviously has a good reputation which it deserves. Great selection of well priced beers and a big menu choice. Four of us had four very different kinds of meal and all were very hearty meals, home cooking style and very tasty all costing less than a tenner each. Excellent! The bread was gorgeous, huge doorsteps of local bread. We sat near the massive open fireplace which, as it was August, wasnât in use but can only imagine how cosy it must be here in the Autumn and Winter seasons. Wish we lived closer or that the pubs where we do live were more like this one. Well done Halfway House.
