Weâve dined here a few times over the years & enjoyed it but our most recent meal was absolutely outstanding. All dishes were really tasty & perfectly cooked. Fantastic, friendly service too. The wigwam setting is novel & cosy. And itâs terrific value.

Traditional Country Pub
As the title says the staff were very friendly and the pub is in a lovely location but the food was disappointing. The melon for starter was clearly very over ripe, unappealing on the eye and still on the skin. The âpan fried chicken escalopesâ was delivered as a whole chicken breast. My wife is intolerant to black pepper and was advised that unfortunately all the sauces contained black pepper. Any self respecting chef would have offered and been able to knock up a simple sauce without pepper. No offer was made. I suspect he / she couldnât be bothered. Nevertheless we had a pleasant evening but it was a shame about the food.

Public house with 3 letting rooms set in the North Yorkshire National Park. We serve good quality, locally sourced home cooked food, including gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options.
Keep trying for Sunday Lunch, must book in advance, wet Friday ,lunch no problem.Good menu with specials board, shared tempura prawns starter, mains, small fish and chips, mine, Lamb chops, mashed veggies with a very good gravy.Food well cooked and, presented as usual plus, despite the lack of diners, service and good old country pub atmosphere, was still evident.

An evening with friends; the pub and restaurant were busy when we arrived on a weekday early evening, so advisable to book. Food excellent, a little delay in service due to influx of dinners, however the complimentary bread & olives was a nice gesture. All the staff were very attentive and friendly. A lovely dining atmosphere in the bar area. Highly recommended.

Although we did not stay at the Kings Head, we ate there on three occasions during our stay. A simple no frills menu that caters for all tastes, most of the food is made on the premesis (I checked!). Stand out dishes were the Lasagne, 'Ultimate' Burger and the Steak & Ale Pie, there was also a good selection of starters & desserts.Service was efficient, and there was also a reasonable gap between the courses. Overall an enjoyable dinning experience, a shame that some of the previous reviews are negative as our visits were positive. Furthermore after putting up with London prices, all the meals represented very good value for money.Recommended.

An old Georgian coaching house with beams, etc. & lots of character with modern comforts. We had a very comfortable bed and slept well in this quiet location. The bathroom was clean with good toiletries but the temperature of the shower fluctuated according to the number of other users in surrounding rooms. Oooh! Oooh! Aaah! The bar service and drinks selection were excellent, and the restaurant offered a well thought-out menu with something for everyone. I particularly enjoyed the pheasant which represented very good value. The advertised wi-fi was very âiffyâ in Room 2 and we found it unusable. But all-in-all The George And Dragon is good value. (Free parking at rear)

The Crown is a traditional country pub in the charming village of Hutton-le-Hole serving great food and real ales with a friendly service and a very warm welcome.
We went here on a sunny September Sunday afternoon, and left disappointed. Maybe some staff had not turned up but the staff who were there gave the impression of being unable to cope with demand and a bit overwhelmed. The beer was average, the usual Theakstons and Black Sheep

On the way back from Middlesborough ,needing a comfort break and unable to park in Helmsley called in here for a drink , a nice welcome , good service and a sunny seat in the sun in the beer garden - looked a very interesting menu and so I will have to return to this pretty village

If you are looking for fine dining from a gastro pub don`t come here ! If you are looking for a hearty meal with a lovely welcome as you come through the door and a good fire burning and nice pleasant locals make sure you come here. I had broth soup to start with which was top notch, then we both had pies, i had game pie and my wife had steak and mushroom pie, well you could not got any more meat in if you tried, you wont leave here hungry for sure! came with chips and veg which were cooked spot on. Great tasting pies and good service, also spotless toilets which is always a good sign, we will return for sure.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon. There wasnât anywhere to sit in the bar area so weâre seated in the dining room. The overall experience was ok but nothing to write home about. The food was fairly average and relatively expensive for what we had. My daughter had lasagne which was ample in portion size but covered in cheap cheese. Probably could have done with half the amount of cheese. Her chips were cold. My chicken was lovely and my chips were hot! She asked me not to complain and really I donât like to. It was quite a random experience. The service was ok but nothing outstanding. What is always excellent is the overall atmosphere with warm fires and stone walls etc. Have visited many times over the last 30 years. Will always return to this place as have fond memories over the years. Would definitely recommend for basic food and excellent bar. Donât have high expectations and you will love it. Best times visited are wintry wet or snowy days.
