The city also became the administrative center of the Far Eastern Federal District of Russia in 2002. It is the second largest city in the Russian Far East, after Vladivostok. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 577,441.

Had breakfast here. Went for typical Russian fare (though there are salads, meals and lots of cakes, etc.) was well presented and cooked. Staff friendly. Convenient for Park.

Taking into consideration rock bar/pub scene in Khabarovsk I would definitely recommend to check out this place. Yes, it's not literally downtown and the easiest way to get here is by taxi but it is so worth it. Music is nice - most of the bands are professional and also there are jamming sessions with local musicians after the gigs. Food is fine, nice choice, nothing over the top and prices are quite comfortable. The staff is very welcoming.

I ate dinner last night breakfast this morning lunch this afternoon (pizza good) and finally prawn tempura and Canada and dragon roll for dinner. The dinner was the best. Hint....if you like a new drink order when your glass is half empty. It takes a long time. Also for breakfast order cappuccino. Instant coffee does not belong here. Bar stools are very low. I am 192cm and found it awkward to eat at bar.

I recently went to the Gatsby Bar for dinner and I was expecting something different. I was expecting a loud party bar and it resulted to be a quite good place to eat. There are different rooms and two floors, very dim light in common. The decorations are made in dark brown and light beige colors, but that is merged with some red lights, the light from the bar and the TV. In any case, that together with the music, was pretty good. The food ordered was sincerely irregular. The solyanka soup for instance was the best in Khabarovsk (and those who read my reviews know that I have tried many restaurants here), but the special meat dish (dish of the chef no.1) was an incoherent mix of veal, pork and chicken with some onion and potato wedges. It was not bad, but it did not feel anything special to be called like that. The service was correct, but forgot a pasta dish (or the kitchen did) and had to wait.The food menu is comprised by some 70 dishes, which I consider way too many. It is a mix of Russian (salads, soups, meat, fish), Italian (pasta, pizza) and Japanese (ramen, soba, chakhan, udon) food, with some minor variations.I would say the price is average in Khabarovsk, maybe a bit cheaper. A reasonable price here would be 800-1200 RUB per person.It was a pretty correct experience, probably a 3.5 rather than a four, but this placed has been recommended to me and I guess it has more to offer (besides the night club).

Well, this place was certainly a surprise. Drawn by the many five star ratings from locals and the name, we sought it out for lunch and a beer yesterday, but no beer was to be had. It is a curious place, with huge patronage from what may have been a nearby university, as most of the many clients were very young and some were still wearing labcoats. There are two sections: the first you pass from the Main Street stairs is decorated in Chinese style. The fridge is stacked with soft drinks and there are some pretty cakes on display. Keep going through (with the crowd) and you come to a canteen where you pick what you want onto a tray and pay for everything including a glass of water with a slice of lemon if you fancy at the end. For two of us, the total was 360 roubles. Music blasted on a sound system appealing to the key demographic. All waitresses wore a uniform that had a recognisable connection to German wench image. Space was cavernous like a beer hall but furnishing and mood nothing like it. Worth checking out for a cheap, quick cafe meal, but don't expect any beer at the Beerfest.

Gustav & Gustav is another German style restaurant in Khabarovsk. Not being a fan of German food that much I gave it a try anyway and not loved it. The environment is nice, well decorated. Food was simply not up to the challenge, edible but nothing special. Eisbein was not well cooked, though other dishes were better. Service was also a little bit poor, but average for Russia. Very crowded and popular in Russia. Have heard also very different opinions of this restaurant, so I personally would prefer other places in the city.
