This is a traditional village pub popular with locals. It is home to the Windy microbrewery producing a fine range of ales named after weather conditions like Tornado, El Nino, etc. Four are usually available and there is real cider as well. The food menu is headed 'Proper Nosh' which is exactly what it is, great pub food. Good value, too! Add a warm welcome, good service and a real fire in the winter..... what's not to like?

This is a local pub with a warm welcome and friendly locals. I stayed 6 nights and was reasonably happy. The welcome and warmth from Paul could not be faulted.I also had an evening meal which was excellent. The evening meals I saw at other tables looked equally as good. The waitresses were young, and didn't look up or around as they went through the dining area. I never managed to get their attention. I never got a sweet or coffeeThe room was also reasonable. It was quite quiet, save the footfall outside, amplified by loose slabs or maybe the manhole cover. I also got to listen to skittles one night. Coffee in the morning was good, breakfast less so. Deep fried Sausages & mushrooms ~ a bit greasy for my liking, better Sausages are also needed. The milk jug came with "days old" milk/cream around the rim. OOPS. My only real area of concern was the shower which is dire need of maintenance & "house keeping". It became obvious that my room wasn't cleaned everyday ~ just the bed was remade, water staining within the shower & rubbish still in the bin are a bug giveaway. On one day, the room wasn't touched at all.Maintenance, housekeeping and a budget breakfast let the side down.Thank you for taking the time to write this review, apologies that it has taken so long to respond but we hadn't actually seen it. Really pleased that your evening meals were excellent, shame that you wasn't looked after as good as you should have been by the waitress but we did have one particular waitress, that is no longer with us, that was very new and not suited to the job. Our bathrooms have recently been refurbished, new sealant, some of the light fittings changed and bathroom walls repainted. The rest of the rooms are to be painted over the new few weeks. Sadly the bathrooms did get, as you say, dire ! Alot worse than I had known about - but happily they are now sorted ! Hope that this will not stop you from staying with us again.

Living in the village the pub is an essential part of village life for us. Luckily for us Erryl and Theresa are great hosts. We visit once or twice a week, normally for lunch and always take visiting friends there. The ales are very well kept and Theresa is an extremely fine cook, on top of a solid pub menu (the omelettes are super fluffy) there are usually daily specials. The locals are very welcoming and there is also a lively skittle scene during the season.

Stopped here en route from Hertfordshire to Falmouth for a quick lunch. Thereâs plenty of room and seating inside and a reasonable selection of beers and lagers. Staff are friendly and efficient, though we had quite a long wait for our sandwiches. What it lacks is ambience, but as a pub on a major road catering for passers by rather than locals, thatâs not surprising.

A trip to the beach was washed out so three of us met here. Lovely decor, and nice and clean.Young, friendly staff served us promptly and efficiently. We all three chose the pie which is delicious and served with big, thick chips and veg with a tasty gravy. Could do with maybe a few more choices on the menu. There's a great vibe here. Busy, even for a Monday night, but a real village feel that isn't seen often nowadays.Thank you so much for your kind review.Very pleased you all enjoyed your pie's. Our menu is constantly being updated so please pop in again sometime and see what we have.We all hope to see you again soonThanks The Bell Team

The Dolphin is one of the oldest buildings in Ilminster, housing a pub restaurant serving traditional Briitish food with ingredients from the butcher opposite.
Stopped off here for lunch today when just passing through Ilminster. We only wanted a light bite so had a baguette each. My husband ordered a cheese one and when it came it was toasted which was a pleasant surprise. I had bacon and Stilton which was one of the nicest baguettes I've ever had. Thank you. :)Thank you for taking the time to write a review, we are pleased you enjoyed your visit and hope you will come back again next time youâre in ilminster

Visited The George for the first time yesterday with friends. We were made very welcome, served very efficiently, the food was so good that not a morsel was left. Four of us chose the two course light lunch, options were good, portions generous and the price very reasonable. All in a very relaxed atmosphere. Stayed for one night to break up the journey from the South East to Cornwall. Will definitely stay here again. Great staff, comfortable room and good evening meal. Suggest booking prior to arrival as the restaurant very popular. Great breakfast too, with proper home made bread.
