We were staying about two miles from this little pub. We booked a table for a meal as we had read some good reiews about this place. We found the owners very friendly and accommodating. They had two "specials" on the board for tonight (thursday) fish'n'chips or rib eye steak. I had the rib eye and my husband fish'n'chips. Both were cooked to perfection. We had three courses and were absolutely full when we left. This little place was superb if you want a great meal and good company don't hesitate to give it a visit.Great review! Thank you, the "fish & chip & steak night" is usually very popular and goes down well. We do offer a few other specials also, yesterday I had some whole Lemon Sole too, which have also been popular, along with 1/2 boned Roast duck, served on a variety of sautéed vegetables.Linda and I were so pleased, you enjoyed our Country Inn, please call again if you are in the area, or even better why not book a room.Kind regardsHarold and Linda

First review we were so impressed all home made , since then less so . Pre Pac calamari, bread rolls and seasonal veg seems to be peas from the freezer, shame as reasonable prices but less impressed and will be a while till return.

Family run pub/restaurant with farm shop and bed and breakfast set in the lincolnshire countryside with a large garden and terraced area
A friend and I meet regularly for a "girlie" lunch at a convenient halfway point. We had heard about this pub, and finally tried it on Thurs. Wonderful! The service was excellent, the food far too generous, and the bill amazingly reasonable. We both ordered the Ploughman's Regular, expecting a light lunch, but, when our meals arrived, we realised could easily have shared. My only regret was that there was insufficient room on my plate for the scrumptious chips, as my side plate was taken up with the warm crusty bread. We will be back, with others in tow.

Went here for dinner with a pal on a Sunday night. The food was very good, and the Manager, Max, is a charming and delightful young man whose understanding of what good customer service should be is exceptional and exemplary. He is a credit to his profession and to his parents. The only downside was that the young man who told us he was the head chef, but off duty, was hanging around the diners, talking very loudly, and was generally making a nuisance of himself. He seemed proud to tell anyone who would listen that he had drunk 6 pints (it was only 7.00 pm), and whilst I'm sure he was a nice chap who didn't mean to offend, we couldn't wait for him to go home! In fairness, when we asked him to tone it down a bit, he responded very well, but I do think he either shouldn't have been there at all in that state, or Max should have taken more control. Despite this, I would highly recommend this as a venue, and it wouldn't stop me returning.

The Stag at Barkston is an Archetypal country pub, off set from the A607 outside of grantham in rural lincolnshire. It offers classic country charm with its wood beams, slate floors and listed heritage. while offering great value locally sourced menus wri
Nicely set in typical English village and a picturesque building. The restaurant area is nicely set out and kept simple which as it isnât over large is good.Comfortable surroundings and attentive polite staff. Menu was varied with a specials board on the wall. Food was hot, tasty and reasonably priced. When making initial query for a table I was advised to book and did half expect the restaurant to be half full as it was a Tuesday evening. How wrong, the restaurant was quite busy during the 3+ hours we were there. No one chivying is for our table either. Well worth another visit.

Cosy, warm and friendly local pub with great home cooked food. Families, pets and group bookings welcome.
Stayed for one night at The Royal Oak as a break before travelling South. The staff were welcoming & friendly personally leading us to the accommodation which was spacious, clean & tidy with toiletry extras in the en suite that some hotel do not even provide. The beds are comfy as well. The 16th century bar with original oak beams & creaking ceiing has bags of character. The beers on tap are enough to keep one going all night. The evening meal was selected from a reasonably comprehensive menu & was served piping hot with fresh veg & generous in proportion.Breakfast next morning was equally generous & piping hot with a selection of cereals to start & generous amounts of toast. The coffee served was filtered & very good. The Royal Oak as is Swayfield is situated within easy reach of Grantham, Bourne, Stamford, Melton Mowbray & Rutland Water. Access is either off the A1, A151 or A6121. If you want a great meal, good beer & a very good night sleep in quiet surroundings this is the place to go & worth the journey in to the country side..Thank you for your wonderful review, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. It was lovely to meet you both what a lovely couple. Hope to see you again soon. Thank you for your Telephone call regarding the new bedding. Your feedback means everything to us Kindest RegardsDenise Kenny and all the staff at the Royal Oak.

More of a restaurant with rooms than pub with nicely cooked and presented food served fresh and hot from a good, varied menu. This place is well worth seeking out as it is definately a decent cut above pub-grub. The staff, not overwhelmed in midweek, while professional enough could have been a bit friendlier or am I being picky? Anyway we certainly enjoyed the food.
