We were staying nearby & popped in for lunch.I was served with the most inedible, disgusting plate of food that I have had in many years. The braised lamb shoulder was not braised at all but appeared to have been boiled in the bag. It was gelatinous & stringy & almost impossible to chew. Dauphanoise potatoes came as a square solid block, burnt on the bottom & otherwise tasteless. The cabbage was cold & the beans nearly raw. Terrible. My wife had fish & chips which she described as just about OK.With a drink apiece the bill came to £37.65. A total & utter waste of money.

We walked to the Narrowboat Inn after mooring our narrowboat about a mile away. Martin and Rachel (?) were marvelous and we were even able to get a carryout meal for our sister-in-law who was sidelined on the boat with an injured knee. The chef also was very accommodating to our sister-in-law's foods allergies. Our meals were good and the company even better.

The Trotting Mare Inn, a traditional Country Pub serving food and drinks. An original piece of countryside architecture, the original Inn was constructed in the nineteenth century. Today, The Trotting Mare Inn is guaranteed to welcome you into a uniquely
It must have 20 years ago I last visited here, what a change.Inside all new interior and furnishings, bright and airy and the chairs are big and comfortable.Lovely decor and fixings. It was very quiet on the Sunday afternoon we arrived only another couple in dining and they moaned about the small portion of meat on the Sunday Roast menu ! a bit off putting, however ...when our arrived my wife had the roast with 2 meats, beautifully cooked and plenty for one person.I had the cod and chips and it was freshly cooked and just perfect. So the person moaning could obviously eat a bucket more than a sow? but I did hear him apologize at the end of his meal.Great selection of beers and nothing overpriced. There is also an award winning caravan park at the rear of the pub.I will definitely go back and next time take the family.I think we just picked a quiet period to go but would recommend if you are in the area.

Home Cooked Food
Sunday lunch menu - very reasonably priced £7.95 for one course - beef, turkey or pork - all with the correct trimmings. Arrived piping hot on hot plates with separate dishes of vegetables and extra gravy. Whilst Iâve had nicer beef this was perfectly acceptable - the veg were properly cooked and the gravy was tasty. Nice Yorkshire pud and a couple of roasties. The new potatoes were slightly mushy/watery but I ate the lot and thoroughly enjoyed itThe place itself feels a bit characterless but itâs clean and the staff are very pleasant Would definitely recommend

We have visited at least 8 times before and mostly on a Thursday when we travel from Staffordshire to visit my Dad and treat him to a lovely meal at The Greyhound! What a shame this time, they do say you are only as good as your last service and this was terrible. The restaurant only had two other people in it and we were seated quickly and our order taken soon after, so far, so good, Now it goes downhill, The Lamb was pan fried and like rubber, the full rack of ribs were a third missing and their service was invisible. On the plus side the Liver and onions with mashed potato went down a treat and the ribs tasted good but not what I would call a full rack. Once finished both our table and the other table sat for 10 minutes with our finished plates sitting on the table, the 3 staff (including the Chef) were sitting at a table by the bar eating, chatting and checking mobile phones while we were ignored, we wanted fresh drinks and a dessert but we gave up, paid and left. I was asked if everything was ok and I said only ok and asked if there had been a change of ownership, this met with a No and I was handed the card machine with no further comment or quiery. Sadly, this will Be our last visit for a while as the experience as a whole was poor and I will spend my money where it is wanted and I feel valued! Sad as it was our go to place to eat, Not fancy but good food and great service, all now sadly lacking.

17Th century coaching inn now transformed into a cosy bar and restaurant in the heart of the village of Cockshutt. Serving real ales and traditional hearty English food. Evening meals available all week. Early evening hot buffet available 5pm-7pm Monday-F
Popped down for an early dinner. Not unexpectedly the place was quiet at 6pm, so getting a table wasn't a problem. Food menu fairly standard with a good selection of dishes including vegetarian. Reasonable selection of ales and ciders on tap. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Will call again.

The Black Lion offers a relaxed atmosphere providing good quality food, beers and craft ales in a tutor setting.
We arrived just before the kitchen was closing for the evening. We chose something quick so as not to delay them going home (thatâs how we were made to feel) Reasonably priced and food was ok. We ate quickly and left. Wouldnât hurry back, sorry.

Wonderful fish & chips, homemade chunky chips yummy! All the food here is homemade. My son had squid and calamari and his girlfriends and the sword fish steak. My son & his girlfriend eat here regularly and he usually has the mixed grill. All the food is locally sourced and truly delightful. They are the best fish & chips in the whole area. We shall definitely be back.

What a gem? The wonderful welcoming locals and warming atmosphere make The Vault an awesome find. Steeped in history with delightful decor. The steps leading down to this underground tavern, give no clues to the enjoyment awaiting any visitor. Beautiful bricks, curving arches dancing with shadows from ambient lighting.Consume a plethora of gins, locally brewed ales and during summer months tasty food platters. We will definitely return...thank you Paul, Tracey and your loyal locals for such a enjoyable evening.

Wanted to go to Greek in Ellesmere as dog friendly and great food but it was shut, so was looking round for somewhere else that took dogs.We passed the red lion and it said dog friendly in certain areas, so we went in and were shown the pool room which was very down market to the other areas in the pub. But the pub was quite busy so we presumed the food would be ok, but it was very average. My ham was half fat and I am not sure what they had done to the chips but they were horrible. The burgers were ok but again nothing special. Will not be returning.
