Unlike some other reviewers, we arrived after 8 on a busy Monday evening without a reservation and were fitted in with no fuss. Our four dishes were all very good: mussels and lamb cutlets (three tender, thick cuts served appropriately pink) were outstanding. Excellent wine by the glass. Attentive service by the girls, with some nice little touches without having to ask (e.g. water, extra plates and cutlery as we shared dishes, finger bowls). All nicely timed at a relaxed pace. Buzzy atmosphere without being noisy, pleasantly casual as against the pretentiousness of our hotel. One of the most enjoyable meals we have had in a while. Not cheap, but worth it for the quality. The Monday evening deal (£21 for two courses) made the final bill reasonable. Highly recommended.

Our daughter took us here after we .moved her to the area. Luckily I wasn't that hungry or the derisory portion would not have sustained anyone. Okay I didn't complain as we were a family unit and I didn't want to cause a fuss. My.meal "green thai curry" was barely edible what with the chilli heat disguising any flavour what so ever, so I mostly ate the four cubic inches of rice .I won't be returning anytime soon .

I booked a table in advance and we came down for Saturday night dinner with the in-laws. We had a table near the bar and the music was very loud. It was a bit disappointing there was no waitress service. Nobody came to take the drink order so we ended up ordering at the bar. It was a shame really as usually there is someone serving at the tables but on this occasion when we wanted to have a nice relaxed meal with family it wasnât the case. I had chicken fajitas and the strips of chicken were very fatty. Overall, ok for a casual meal but I wouldnât come back for a Saturday night dinner.Jolanta G, it is really disappointing to hear that your experience was anything less than great, and your feedback will be taken on board. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will use your comments to refine our efforts to ensure this issue does not happen again.

This is my first time writing a review for The Hut, but weâve visited many times. Nearly every visit we are served by an amazing waitress by the name of Yvonne. Friendly, chatty, helpful, and knows her stuff. Yvonne is like this with every customer, and she really should be recognised by those in Head Office for the outstanding work she does. My adult son has severe autism and learning disabilities, and she is great with him. She knows what he likes to eat and drink, and never speaks down to him at all. The food is really good too. I tried the tuna steak, and it was the best Iâve ever tasted. So flavoursome, a lovely big portion, and cooked perfectly. Weâve had many meals cooked by the Jamaican chef (I really should ask for his name next time!) and he is such a great chef. The burgers he cooks are amazing, and heâs so smiley and friendly too, despite having so much work to do.

We rarely meet our relatives who live some distance away, and chose this venue as we had sampled a good meal previously. We enjoyed our meals, the general ambiance and service was excellent. However our mealtime was thoroughly spoiled by the noise eminating from a childrenâs party which was going on in the same area. Because of this It was quite difficult to carry on a conversation with our guests and so our reunion was greatly disadvantaged. Can I suggest that the management consider the adverse effect these bookings have on their other diners and provide an alternative area for such events.Thank you for your review. We are really glad that you enjoyed your food and found our service to be good. We are sorry that you were next to a noisy table, in future should you ever wish to move tables, please ask your server and this can be accommodated. Alternatively, when booking if you would like to be in a quiet area, please let us know and we will do our best to ensure that families with children are seated away from you.We look forward to welcoming you again soon.Kind regardsTHF Team

Old English pub serving good quality home cooked food. Friendly waitress service. Dogs welcome. Family friendly.
Whenever Iâm staying with friends in Colden Common,Iâm always dragged down to âThe Dogâ,(as the locals call it),but in a nice way!You always receive a warm welcome, along with a great selection of drinks.Either stay in the small bar area,or venture outside into their purpose built seating area.On one of the evenings we decided to dine.Well the food was first class.Spicy beef strips to start, followed by a very well presented burger. All in all another memorable visit to âThe Dog!â
