We held our annual Christmas party at Uplands on Thursday 6th December and being a local company we thought Uplands had everything we needed ie nice big venue, lovely menu.We booked well in advance in September and we were informed that another group would be dining but they were booked in earlier so would have finished eating before we arrived at 2.30. On our arrival we were all seated and ordered a drink, the starter came and was ok apart from missing some of the parties meals and had to wait a while until the rest arrived. From there it went downhill the staff were rude they had no idea who had ordered what off the menu even though we had spoken numerous times and submitted a pre order form in, Luckily Diane our staff member had brought our copy of the order form in so was all to give it to the kitchen. Our main Meal arrived and it was stone cold we were a party of 15 and all the meals were cold to the point the Yorkshire pudding was rock hard and stone cold, quite a few of us sent our meals back but they still returned cold!We constantly had to get up to go to the bar and order drinks even though we were the only party in the restaurant not very good table service.Pudding was ok although nothing great. We spent £576 at uplands on our xmas party we did not question the bill but will certainly not be going back or recommending to anyone else, it was our worst Christmas party in 8yrs.I did express my disappointment to the guy on duty and his answer to the cold food is we kept changing our minds which is untrue as we knew what we had all ordered the restaurant had no idea. A huge disappointmentThank you for taking time to leave a review. You were informed that there would be another group in on the same day and when you arrived they were finishing their pudding and having tea & coffee. This did not impact the service that your table received. There was a starter missing as we never received back the pre order form that was sent. All that we received was a collation of orders eg. 5 soup, 6 beef etc which had no names against it. Your party before arrival changed the amount of people coming on the day twice and also changed the orders. The form that Diane DID bring in with people names on the day was totally unreadable with names scribbled out and orders changed. So I (Steph) did my best to go around each person to ask their names to ensure that we had everyone's order ready in the kitchen. ALSO, there were 2 gluten free people in your party but when you sent us the pre order you only mentioned that there was one. So the chef had to re cook meals for the extra gluten free person. There was one complaint of food being cold which we swiftly dealt with. When asked if everything was ok, no one else mentioned anything. We cannot do anymore than check if your food was ok. You were not the only party in the restaurant (as mentioned in your own review) and you asked a couple of times at the bar for drinks as you were all drinking so quickly. We were doing table service for drinks as much as we could. All of your food plates came back clean, so if the food was that bad i believe you wouldn't have eaten all the food.Out of all the Christmas parties we have had this year, your group were very unorganised in terms of changing people, dishes, lack of information about gluten free people and the only ones to complain, which did not make our job easy. We completely respect your decision not to return to the Uplands.

The Commodore Inn is probably the oldest hostelry in Grange over Sands, having been built during the 1820's. It has been frequented over the years by many a weary traveller seeking Rest, Good Food, a Tipple and Entertainment.... Almost 200 years on and no
When you see something on the menu described as whale and chips, the offering is often a bit of a let down. However, whilst not of leviathan proportions the fish overhung the large plate on both sides and would have put up one hell of a fight if caught on a line. The batter was crispy and the chips were decent. Can't speak for the rest of the menu which looked like typical pub grub but the fish had us hooked.

A traditional village inn offering award-winning real ales, a good selection of wines and keg beers. The reputation of the food is well known and caters for most tastes.
We ate here with friends during a really busy week for the pub. They happily fitted us in even though we booked late. The service was impeccable. Polite and attentive but not too fussy. The food was outstanding. We only live locally and will definitely be back again. Can highly recommend a visit!

A traditional "Country Pub" providing "posh pub food" 7 days per week with a traditional Sunday roast weekly. Recently refurbished comfortable rooms at very reasonable rates.
This is a lovely pub,the staff were really friendly and chatty. We have been twice here, once just for drinks and this weekend for food.We had a starter and mains.Starter was nachos and garlic bread then for mains a chicken burger and the Engine burger which was really tasty, the chips were more like roast spuds but they were perfect, really tasty and crispy.Great value for money. We definitely come again when we are next in the village.

My husband booked a night away as part of my birthday treat and a visit to Rogan and Co. Our room was big, clean and comfy. Service was good. The breakfast was lovely. Just right. downside was the room was so hot! Despite turning radiator down we had to resort to opening windows and that meant noise. Also bathroom was tiny but clean and did the job! Maybe suggest having extra pillows. One wasnât enough! Also we were escaping our usual 6am wake up call from children but still quite noisy from 7 ish. This could have been the guests above us so maybe couldnât be helped. Would recommend and stay again. Good Evening, Thank you for choosing to stay at The Priory Hotel and for taking the time to leave feedback on your experience. We greatly appreciate all feedback as it helps ensure all of our guests receive a positive experience. It is lovely to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us, Cartmel is a beautiful place with lovely surroundings happy to hear you had a lovely time for your birthday treat. We take pride in our rooms and it is lovely to hear when people have appreciated them. If you stay with us again then we do have a couple of fans and if you ask at the bar and these aren't currently in use then we could maybe sort one of these out in the room for you.We do only provide 1 pillow each in the rooms as some people find this ample however if our guests need more then we are always happy to provide these. We do have rooms with bigger bathrooms these are classed as our executive doubles and do have a slightly higher room rate you could maybe en-quire about these for your next visit. Apologies if the guests above you were a little noisy.thank you for your lovely comments on how spacious, clean the rooms are. Thank you for staying with us and we would look forward to welcoming you back to the Hotel, if you stay in Cartmel again. Thank you Lyndsey

An 18th Century Inn full of character, mixing contemporary furnishings with traditional decor, and real log fires.Great outside seating area overlooking the main Square in the village, fantastic for watching the world go by.
I have been here many times during Cartmel bank holiday race weekend. Food hasnât always been great as it is so busy. I was pleasantly surprised on this occasion as the food was excellent. Iâm told they have a new chef and although I didnât see him cook I saw him throw out two middle aged drugged up race goers who were rowing about who had taken the lions share of the coke. Very professional and should be complemented by the management both for his cooking and the way he dealt with the incident.

Came here for Sunday lunch while staying at the nearby caravan park and it did not disappoint. My wife and I had the carvery while my 2 and a half year old had the childrenâs roast. Your meat, Yorkshire and roast potatoes are served to you and you help yourself to the veg. There was such a range it was difficult not to have eyes bigger than your belly! It was all perfectly cooked and we demolished it all! The desserts were delicious too! It was busy and no wonder so book or get there early! You wonât be disappointed!

We visited for a birthday celebration on Sunday a party of 9 and a highchair. The table was very cramped and we where practically sat on each other (was not a table for this many people) and no room for a highchair. Service was drinks was good from the waitress. The waiter was swapping our menus around on the table... not sure why. The food arrived quiet promptly and all 3 course where very nice. Had to wait along time for the bill and a further 20 mins to pay...Dear Megan, We are glad to hear that you enjoyed all 3 of your courses while dining at our restaurant. Unfortunately due to the small nature of our pub we are not always able to offer the most expansive eating areas. However, had you let us know on the day that you felt uncomfortable we would have attempted to accommodate you more fully. Best wishes, Tim and Emma

Converted 17th Century town mill with the original waterwheel still intact in centre of pub. The venue has a beautiful cask ale bar (CAMRA's Good Beer Guide 2011-19) with eight hand pulls serving a variety of Cumbrian, Lancastrian and national ales. We ar
My husband and I came here for a meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We enjoyed a couple of drinks outside on the upstairs terrace initially, which was lovely, then ate in the bar area downstairs.Food (3 courses) was amazing - especially the scotch egg! Service was prompt and overall it was a lovely evening. Really recommend! Hi 254alia, thank you for taking the time to leave such a great review, and congratulations on your anniversary! We're so pleased to hear that yourself and your husband enjoyed your wedding anniversary at The Mill at Ulverston. We're delighted with your feedback, and hope to see you again very soon.
