Bar Jolly sits on the lakeside promenade opposite the ferry pier. It differentiates itself from the other café alongside it by suggesting it's a gelato (Italian ice-cream) specialist. It's not!We popped in on an afternoon having returned from the Luino market (every Wednesday afternoon - see separate listing) on the ferry. We wanted a quick drink and some ice-cream, sitting down somewhere. Bar Jolly looked like the place with bright table covers and an emphasis on gelato.The young waitress was typical of these establishments, no eye contact and no warmth or friendliness. You get used to it in this part of Italy since it's quite common but by no means universal - it's a shame. The menu we were given is huge and starts with the various choices of ice-cream sundae, quite promising. Sadly, having ordered one of their more expensive options at â¬8, it failed it live up to its promise. It was sickly with a heavy dose of squirty cream from a can, a couple of mediocre scoops of gelato and a sprinkling of berries that even Scrooge would be proud of - yet the picture showed it showered with berry fruit. A couple of days ago I had ordered a similar desert while in Limone (Lake Garda) and, by comparison, the Bar Jolly offering was poor. There are other food dishes which appear later in the menu card but they don't look that good (pictures, always a bad sign when the café / restaurant includes pictures of the food dishes).Anyway, rather forgettable and I chose to leave about 1/3rd of the desert, paid and got up to go back to our car. I would suggest trying other options. Bar Jolly certainly isn't an ice-cream specialist café.

Dieses Lokal ist unser absolutes Lieblingslokal....der Service ist hervorragend, das Essen sehr gut...die Desserts ein Traum;hier ist der Gast König..die jungen Kellner sind stets sehr bemüht.....wir kommen gerne wieder! Jungs, weiter so...!

The fish I had was very good. The others had fish and meat skewer. This was also very tender. Before our main course we got some bread and foccaccia (still warm!).The staff was friendly. We sat outside on the terrace. It was a pity there were hardly any guests at that time. I would surely come back, because the quality of the food was good and the price was ok.

Immer wieder eine sichere Bank, wenn es was "normales" sein soll. Pizza, Pasta, Fisch - aber auch Schnitzel mit Pommes. Sicher nicht das, was ich suche wenn ich in Italien authentisch essen gehen möchte. aber vor allem für Familien mit Kindern oder auch Gruppen gibt es hier eine groÃe Auswahl an günstigen Speisen. Günstig bedeutet übrigens nicht, dass das Essen Mittelmaà ist - die meisten Speisen sind wirklich top. Empfehlenswert vor allem der Fisch und Pasta mit ebensolchem. Dazu günstige offene Weine.Interessant für Familien: Spielplatz direkt am Restaurant.Wichtig: Unbedingt reservieren, abends richtig voll.Beeindruckend: Der Service ist wirklich einzigartig gut und freundlich. Auch wenn die Bude gerammelt voll ist, passt hier alles. Schnell, freundlich, aufmerksam.

Eat in thebrear area garden for lunch...both had pasta dishes which where of a good standard, service was very efficent but lacked a bith of warmth..the coffee here is of a very high standard having sampled espressos in 9 different places in cannobio while here on holiday this ranks #1

Stumbled over this place on a visit to Cannobio. They serve fantastic pink Hugos in jars, freshly made. Very friendly staff, great relaxing chill out music while you watch the world go by or just take in the stunning views of the lake
