As a marker of Turkmenistan's official neutrality, the city's most recognizable monument, the Neutrality Arch, rotates during the daylight hours, facing the sun throughout the entire day. A simple bar/restaurant located behind Russian Circus. They brew their own beer and have a basic menu. Best to have shasliks/kebags which are cooked to order. A pleasant place to relax in the small garden outside. Popular with locals and can get quite full at times. Very limited English spoken but you can get by easily (particularly if you just want shasliks and a beer!). The name of the rstaurant seems to change but it is the only one on the street behind the Russian Circus (the other side of the circus is the Alt Akyn hotel)

Asgabat is an Eastern Disneyland resort with few inhabitants and vistors but lots of security. Coming from Iran, it provides alcohol and few restaurants but this pub close to Russian market is a surprise with expats, diplomats and few tourists and hidden, tricky to find. It offers tasty beer, acceptable burgers with pommes frites and slow but real service. In Germany it would not be rated better than "sufficient" but under bedeviled circumstances this pub is an oasis and extraordinary.

Close to the Russian Market in Ashgabat is Zip which we tried out for a meal recently when in the capital of Turkmenistan. Itâs a very Russian restaurant so we were glad we could get by with our hodge-podge Russian language skills and the staff were very patient and took the time to make sure we were on the same page. The menu was a bit intimidating but we managed, our meals were delicious, the meat cooked properly to order which was a nice surprise, the drinks flowed fast and the courtyard dining area was so laid back and perfect for the meal. Price-wise pretty average pricing so no surprises there, we enjoyed our time there, my brother really hit it off with some people at the next table and we would return when in Ashgabat again.

The restaurant provides meals in a yurts. The furniture in a yurt follows traditions of Turkmenistan - carpets, pillows, low tables. IT is clean and have good design for those who likes traditions. The menu is wide and includes national and European dishes. The cooking is tasty. The prices are average, not cheep, but not so high as in Europe. About $15-20 per person. Service is not so efficient and takes time. Comparing to Europe services at 5 stars restraints I ill rate them as 3 points.
