Had a lovely tender pork roast here tonight. My partnerâs hake was well cooked though the chorizo gravy could have been more interesting.Only bugbear was the live music which caused us to move tables so that we could speak (and hear) each other. Luckily, we had not started our meal but had we gotten our food ....Anyhow just be aware and watch where the band is set up and choose your table accordingly.Hi DavidThank you for your review.I am glad you enjoyed you food, the roast pork is one of our favourites as well. The live jazz is on Sunday from 5pm-7pm, it is in the bar area, so should be more background volume in the main restaurant. We hope to see you again soon!Kind regardsJames

An old fashioned pub restaurant. Not run by head office, comfortable seating and eating area. Pop in for a quiet drink or a lively chat with friends. Food served 7 days a week and menu changed regularly. Fresh meals cooked on site.
We had a family meal last night May Day bank holiday. The waitress was very helpful, the food was hot, large potions and value for money HiThank you for your reviewIT is good to know that we are doing things well especially on special days off for our customers. We look forward to looking after you again in the future.Nic

Without a doubt, the best of the few Sunday roast/carvery we've had over the years! Fantastic service from arrival, friendly, polite and very helpful. The food was particularly good and definitely worth the bill. Clean, cosy and pleasent, table service frequent and service spot on. Really pleased we made the decision to book this morning and to be seated for lunch and eating between 12:30 and 1:30pm, we had family up from Wales and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it! We have every intention of eating at The Merry Miller again, The Jones Family (locals with visitors from out of town)

We came here with friends who have 2 young children despite moving away recently. So glad we made the effort to come back, the service here is always excellent and the menu and food is sublime; it was no different on this occasion. It was also very good for the children with smaller portions. Itâs a traditional country pub very large inside and with plenty of outdoor seating. There is an excellent gin menu so if you like gin you really have to visit! Based on this experience I would certainly recommend you visit.

Went for a meal with my mother turning up on the off chance. Plenty of car parking and nice grounds outside. We sat inside and itâs just as nice. The food was delicious and freshly made too, ate every bit. The staff were helpful, friendly and made us feel welcomed (George was lovely).Definitely recommend but take extra money... the food is worth every penny (and pound).

Four of us were staying in a Green King hotel a couple of miles away; it seemed very busy that lunchtime but (worse) there were lots of children about at the Green King Hotel/Pub and my dislike of children could reasonably be described as pathological. I think they belong in pubs like wasps belong in picnics or caravans belong on driveways. Most children are utterly repulsive and their parents are almost always pitiful at their job of controling them - "...don't do that mate!" Look, they are not your 'mates' they are your children. So, keep the vile things quiet and stop them running around, tempting me towards knife-crime. Anyway this situation took us down the road to the Black Horse and what a find it was! It was much quieter and for no good reason at all - it's a very nice pub - but the food - wow! We just ordered 4 bar snacks, the ladies opting for baked potatoes with prawns and we ordered cheese and ham omelettes - our expectations - 'pub-grub' and no more but the care, quality, and flavour was exceptional - I've traveled the world on business - it takes a lot to stir me and we all said the same thing - wow! We even asked to meet the Chef asking " how can you make such ordinary food taste so good?" Not a fair question really and she was unable to answer - there was no false modesty either. In life some people really care about doing a good job and it's what they do day after day and give it their all.Nice one Black Horse. You would be well advised to keep your Chef hidden lest she is poached. If I owned a restaurant I'd try to steal her from you. I have just read the review from Marit S who was 'dissapointed' with a 'rubbery omelette' - It would be very wrong of me (or anyone) to suggest that this person works for Green King so I won't.

We booked four tables for the night before our daughters wedding, eight to ten people per table, booking a month in advance. Arrived at 19:00 for 19:15.Orders taken quickly, first two tables served starters and mains, we had a one year old with us, asked if she could have her dinner first due to her age, waitress said she could not but we could have some bread for her, after forty five minutes enquired where our food was, as the table behind us had now been served. We were told they were short staffed and the chef had a bad knee! Although we had seen people arrive in other parts to eat who had been fed and left.Eventually the family with the baby left at 21:30, no food for baby but fish and chips put in a pizza box for them. Our food, four duck salads, two fish and chips and one liver eventually arrived at 21:45.When I asked the waitress if the chips I had were their âhand cut chipsâ as advertised she said no, is that a problem? Of course itâs supposed to have hand cut chips. When I said I would speak to the manageress she said âI bet you willâ.We have eaten here on numerous times over the past three years on the run up to the wedding, thatâs why on this special occasion we took forty people here, we made a big mistake.

Two visits: first one, service efficient and food great; second time, service crap (went to bar to order after waiting 20 mins) and then waited 30 mins for the food (reason given ? They had some big parties ... somewhere as we didnât see any).

Take sanctuary from the street-level bustle and dive in to the flavours of local British cuisine at Oxen Bar & Grill, the all-day neighbourhood brasserie nestled in the Courtyard Oxford South Hotel. With leather snugs, Oxfordshire inspired details, expose
Standard food (although the fish did taste and look like it came frozen from the local supermarket) but highly priced. For what looks like a high class place the food was disappointing and the service wasn't much better (including the waiter laughing when we were actually complaining about the food). It will definitely not be somewhere we visit when we are in the area next. You can get much better food elsewhere for less. Very disappointing experience.Thankyou for your review.. i would like to take this opportunity to apologise that we fell short of your expectations on this occasion.it is only with feedback, good or bad, that we can improve and increase our offering to our valued guests.I would like to gain some more information on your experience here at The Oxen Bar & Grill, as it leaves me with some questions - please email me directly on [email protected], so we can discuss further.Kindest regards and looking forward to hearing from you.Thomas KentFood & Beverage Manager
