We made our first visit to The Lamp this evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The Lamp is a deceiving location, not unlike the Dr Who Tardis where the interior is belied by the small front elevation. Inside it opens out into a good sized area with relaxed seating layout and if it were full to capacity one would not feel cramped. The staff are very efficient, friendly and welcoming, not always an easy combination to pull off. As this was our first visit I chose Chicken Madras, which I always choose for a first visit, it's my yardstick and favourite. Rationale being if they can produce a good chicken madras, I will not only return but will be confident in trying different dishes. I have to say this was the best chicken madras I have had anywhere, including some of the top London curry houses. Both of our meals were cooked well, as were the side orders. We passed on desert, but had coffee and during coffee the waiting staff came to our table with a bowl of ice cream and a candle in it. They commenced singing Happy Birthday but I corrected them, much to the amusement of all the patrons and staff. The whole restaurant proceeded to applaud us and that was very nice . The restaurant also gave us a bottle of wine, not only a bottle but the same grape variety as the bottle we ordered to accompany our meal. A nice touch and one that was never experienced in other curry restaurants anywhere. Cleobury Mortimer is so lucky to have such an establishment on it's High St , we are lucky enough to be a mere 20 minute drive away.

Authentic food and great customer as the ethos of our success, The Spice Empire has been proudly serving the people of Cleobury Mortimer for two decades and has been greatly accepted as one of the locals. We have been serving the people of Shropshire almo
Nice salad and a large selection of dishes to try, all you can eat, for under 10 pounds. I had never eaten Indian food, but was very favorably impressed--the waiter/manager did a very good job of scouting my tastes and recommending dishes to try--delicious! Great value, highly recommend, though of course, I couldn't say how it would rate to a connoisseur of Indian cuisine.

Service was excellent and the food even better. We've visited here 3 or 4 times, but this was the best eating experience by far. The staff were friendly, attentive, helpful and the food excellent. For starter's tried the Onion Bhaji, a bit on the small side but tasty. For our main meal we ordered Lamb Naga Jhol, Chicken Rogon Josh, Mushroom Pilau and a Chilli & Coriander Nan. All dishes were delicious and represented good value for money. I tried the Magners Cider, ideal for washing it all down. Would definitely recommend to friends.
