We hadn't visited for ages so decided it was time to return. Saturday evening rush had finished so plenty of tables available. Took our own drinks from off-licence across the road. Starters plus main course. Food was OK at best. Service was pretty poor with disinterested waiters (brought water but no glasses, had to try and catch their attention if we wanted anything, etc). Otherwise a nicely decorated restaurant with an intimate atmosphere. Could be better.

We had dinner recently, and as curry lovers were very disappointed. We both found the service brash and the food bland. Despite the convenient location and large capacity, we would not return, in our opinion there are significantly better restuarants locally in which to enjoy a curry.

Visited on a Friday early evening and restaurant was full. Very noisy and seating very cramped making it uncomfortable to stay too long. Food was very good but had to go veggie as all meat is Halal, which we donât eat. Would go more often if seating was spread out a bit more... think they need a bigger space. If going need to avoid seating by front window, which gets damp due to condensation.

Boldmere's first Indian restaurant opened 1972 and still going strong, authentic Indian food cooked in the traditional way and consistent customer satisfaction has got us this far.
Bengal Gardens was our favourite restaurant for over 40 years. Then it changed .We gave it a go but didnât like it at all, left it a while and tried it again this weekend. It was a little surreal .Never been to a curry house with soul music playing , loudly.Bistro typed pictures on the walls of the old run down restaurant that we loved. It was very noisy , we were sat by the bar .The kitchen doors constantly banging as people were going in and out.A phone with a loud shrill ring going off .And the loud soul music.Uncomfortable to say the least. The main food took ages to arrive and it was plain and bland with little meat in it.The staff were friendly enough but not like it used to be.A completely different atmosphere .Donât think we will be returning, such a shame.Would like to thank you for choosing us again and apologies for not meeting your standards. The Bengal Gardens as yourself and many of our regular clients mentioned was the same for over 40 years in nearly every aspect, their has been a change in management and we have made changes only to improve and add our own touch, this has so far been a success and allot of the original Bengals patrons have returned and expressed their feelings on how great the service and food now is ( please read all recent reviews ). As you know the restaurant is now bursting with covers and takeaways and we will most definitely take this feedback on board and change the ringtone for the phone as it can be quite intrusive. However the music has been hand picked from regular clients and their is a mix of 80s pop, some soul music and Indian instrumentals. It was very unfortunate that you had been seated right below the speakers near the bar that Saturday night and our bar man was requested to raise the volume by a customer. I don't think i have ever in the last 10months of taking management ever been told our food is bland so i am quite disappointed this wasn't mentioned to myself or the chefs. Will take this opportunity to invite yourself and your partner back to our restaurant to try the food alongside the hospitality again, you will not be disappointed. P.S Lets not spoil our 40 year old friendship over loud music and one bad night :)With RegardsBasith

What a banging curry, as ever! Lamb Dhansak spicy, succulent and moorish. We always find the side dishes really yummy, especially the Tarka Dhal. Masala has a kick and prefer the Lamb over the Chicken. Try the Chicken Jaipuri-really tasty. The staff are always lovely; laid back, happy, accommodating but not 'in your face'. We get Indian Cuisine from nowhere else and that is testament to consistently good quality, tasty food. Go check it out for yourselves!

We've eaten a number of times and never had a bad night or a meal we didn't thoroughly enjoy. LAst night wasn't a planned visit, to be honest, we were only there due to the total incompetence at Pizza by Goli, they were the opposite extreme. We strolled down to the Purple Rooms, stopped to get some wine, and went on to have another lovely meal and great bit of craic with the staff..... who rescued what was looking like a special night spoiled by the unprofessional buffoons at Pizza by Goli.Thank you Purple Rooms.

After reading all the great TripAdvisor reviews,we were keen to try this restaurant, unfortunately we were quite disappointed.Comparing the food to traditional Indian food and other local restaurants, the food is simply mediocre. For our liking, the meats were not tender nor marinated enough. The mains portions were small with little actual sauce and it was quite bland tasting. We won't be returning any time soon.
