Der Tröpolacherhof Hotel & Restaurant is located in the centre of Tröpolach, only 300 m from the Millennium Express Cable Car leading into the Nassfeld Ski Area. The Tröpolacherhof's restaurant serves traditional Carinthian cuisine.
We had lunch here. The food was good - nothing to write home about - and the service was fine, if a bit wooden. To accompany our pasta dish (Spätzle), I asked for some Parmesan, receiving rather promptly two tablespoons of it, grated and served in a tiny bowl. When the bill arrived, there was an extra €2,50 charge for “sauce,” which I was informed- upon politely asking - was for the said cheese. Maybe I’ve been lucky all these years, but I’ve never had to cough up such a sum for such a so-called dressing. I think paying 20 or 50 cents for butter is acceptable, although a bit on the stingy side, even though that’s quite common in Austria. But this was, I felt, an unfriendly charge so I told them so, with no reply. Anyway in the end I was relieved that i hadn’t asked for a glass of water or a slice of bread or some milk for the coffee or even an extra fork, because one is sometimes really at the mercy of unreasonable and, may I say, greedy restaurant management.

We stopped for a skiing lunch, two families with four young children. The food is average for such a place but the service is below any standard. First they messed up the order on the details (n No ketchup please) was dutifully noted but ignored once the food came. Then it turns out the dish for one of the kids was missing. Despite chasing the waitress FOUR times over the next half an hour the fish did not materialize. Each time we received no information beyond the stupefied look of the same waitress that the food did not appear. In the end we fed the child from other plates and left without receiving any apology whatsoever. Avoid as the plague, there are other decent places around.

I cannot share the opinion of my precessors. The food was not of high quality, rather average. In addition it is very expensive. This was the first and last time we ate here.

Great hot chocolate. Very good Italian like bombardino. Quick and friendly waiters. Located next to skilift as well as road. So easy access.

...in this place at over 1600 m altitude. Typical Austrian, decoration and cuisine. Nice sunny terrace. Great professionality and attention to customers. Try the Grost'l (potatoes, speck, sausage with a fried egg on top) and as a dessert the traditional Kaiserschmarren (one of the best tasted in Austria). Highly recommended.

Somewhere close to the final descent of one of the red tracks, you will find this restaurant parked to your left with plenty of tables outside and inside. Getting to this place might be a little challenging for someone that is really starting to ski. Luckily, I got some really awesome instructors (my wife and father in law) and after a few days, this track was one of my favourites; with this restaurant one of those we used frequently while using the tracks. Here you will find a lot of Slovaks and Czechs eating (the staff tends to be Slovak) which will take care of you and tell you a series of funny jokes. Now, you are probably reading this looking for food reviews or the restaurant review as a whole. Here it goes:The food is quite tasty, although the menu is quite limited (in comparison to other restaurants in the park). We had chicken schnitzel, salads, goulash soup and the goulash dish. There are a few Czech/Slovak dishes and desserts and that is all. I particularly liked the food and was pretty good, although if you are someone that is looking for a more refined menu, you should be looking to go to a different restaurant. The attention and service was pretty good although it can get a bit overcrowded towards midday (a big bulk of people will be getting here just before midday to get the most out of their days). My recommendation is, get an early bite before going down the slopes. You will save some time and enjoy your stay a lot more.
