Things to do in Riegersburg
We stopped in this cafe/pub on our way to Riegersburg castle. Located at the very centre of the small town, it has tables for outdoor sitting. We didn't take anything to eat, but the drinks were super cheap (1,7⬠for a schpritzer and 2,5⬠for a big radler). The waitress was very friendly and fast. I saw that they were serving also ice cream, so my assumption is that they have other type of food. The other positive thing is that it is open at noon which is not the case with many restaurants (open only after 17:00).
Kürbiskern-Eierspeis usw.

I've been in this place with friends when we were on our way to the Zotter Chocolate factory, one week ago. Apparently there were no other restaurants open in the same area, as we were at the beginning of the year and all activities are "frozen" (still, this is the most touristic-oriented district of Steiermark). So, after asking advice to locals, we opted for it, as it also looked like clean and neat: in other words, well promising. We all opted for daily menus, as advertised on the entrance. In all my previous experience, daily menus are cheap but also a warranty of freshness and taste. This was not the case: beside the soup, the main dishes were completely disappointing. Tasteless and undressed steamed carrots and potatoes: just like the menu in a public hospital. The fish above all, reportedly "fresh local salmon trouts", was smelling like rotten and partly raw, i.e. not cooked at all.At the end the dessert that we got was uneatable, old brioches, hard like stones, sank in a tetra-pack whipped cream. Needless to say that most of us, the children above all, left it there on the dish.As a cherry on the cake when we got the bill we discovered that each bottle of 0.75lt of water costed us 5 (five) euro!!!

Delicate food is something you can rely on here, at this age-old country inn: both in the dining room and in the manufacture, where exquisite homemade products are made for the tasting, and to take away.
The reason we went there : a birthday on Monday when everything else around is closed. Very clean restaurant with nice cloth napkins and good but not romantic or charming atmosphere. There is an evening menue which sounds nice and most of it was very nice. Beef tartare was nice and hand cut - portion was not too big but in my opinion too much of the Fink vinegar veggies for deco. It is daring to offer Sepia and shrimp so far in the country side - but it was okay. I really liked the service, one of the owners worked himself that evening. Funny enough the signature dish of the region, a pumpkin seed oil salad with fried chicken was the least appealing (no vinegar in dressing and fried too long). I would definetely recommend the restaurant if you are in the area but do not expect michelin stars, good solid cooking trying to please all kinds of guests. - Service is once again very attentive and in my opinion on a higher level than the foods served, but very good for food is still way above average.

We stopped here for the lunch after Vulkanland radmarathon. We had to wait about 5minutes at the bar, because they were full. We had green and herbal tea. Asparagus soup tasted great. Deer steak with asparagus and sweet potatoes was delicious. Zander fillet with noodles and salad tasted good. After lunch we had two espresso. Our bill was about 50â¬.

We came upon this restaurant by chance as we were walking at the foot of the fortress and were looking on the opposite side of the valley where the hills are covered by vineyards and orchards in full bloom. We noticed the restaurant in the distance and its large terrace and decided to visit it. Lovely drive up the hill and stunning view on the village and on the castle. The food was excellent ( only cold plates) so were the wines and the service. As they are not allowed to serve coffee, we drove to the almost nearby chocolate factory Zorry and had a wonderful double espresso , enhanced by several spoons of warm melted chocolate which we sampled from the chocolate fountains by the side of the bar.

Organic restaurant "Ãko-Essbar" Farm to table â fresh & cool The nature experience restaurant. We conjure meals and drinks out of everything that grows and flourishes at our organic farm. Enjoy our organic food, directly from our own pastures and gardens
It is a must to visit the park with animals, organic gardens and a restaurant (After or even better before chocolate treat at the nearby Zotters chocolate factory). We enjoyed a walk even in a rainy day with our dog. We saw some animas from sheeps, birds to lamas and had funny photographs at the "chocolate greveyard" where the chocolate ideas which are no longer in productions are buried". There is a dog-village, where you dog can stay during the chocolate factory visit. But dogs are allowed to enter the restaurant, which was a nice surprise! I loved the restaurant nicely decorated with wood and glass, with great views to the valley. We had a vegetarian meal and a goulash and everything was tasteful and nicely decorated. The food is organical produced at the farm and meals are carefully prepared. Daughter liked the "bread box" which can be opend as a drawer and is full of delicious whole grain bread. The lemonade was also good amd my wife had the best coffee in this region (with a piece of Zotter chocolate...).We are looking forward to welcoming you soon again!

Great views, great service, great value delicious food. What to say more? The waitress spoke very good English and was quite funny. Even though we originally stopped for a drink only, the menu was so tempting that we couldn´t resist and we were very happy we didn´t. My pumpking cream soup was superlicious and for 3,10 EUR an absolute steel (it was a meal on it´s own). My partner had a plate of 4 different smoked fish which was huge and very nicely presented (10 EUR). We were sitting outside under the vines overviwing the castle. Perfect experience. And on top, the owner was even so nice to help us with our flat tire on the bike!
